In response to the post, one fan commented, "Malti is so cute and adorable in your hat." Another wrote, "Wow!!! Hotties!! And adorable MM wearing mama's hat." In the video, Nick was seen walking out with Priyanka after she finished getting ready for the event. As it started to rain, he held her dress and carried an umbrella while they made their way to their vehicle. Priyanka captioned the video, "BTS." For the occasion, Nick wore a tailored white suit.

Priyanka married Nick Jonas in 2018 in Rajasthan, celebrating with a traditional Christian ceremony followed by a Hindu one. They welcomed their daughter Malti via surrogacy in January 2022.

While Disha Patani may be known for her high-octane performances on screen and disciplined fitness routines, her downtime paints a much more grounded and relatable picture. Away from the camera and choreography, the actress finds joy in quiet Sundays, travel goals, and a handful of quirky hobbies.

“I train, then lie in bed and eat – a lot,” she laughs, describing how she likes to slow down on Sundays. For Disha, these days off are less about glam and more about geeky pleasures. She enjoys watching movies or playing video games like Pokémon and Tekken on her Nintendo Switch or PlayStation. “I’m a bit of a geek,” she admits.

Her love for Japanese culture isn’t limited to anime and gaming. A trip to Japan left a lasting impression on her. “It was like I stepped inside an anime; it was surreal,” she recalls. Enchanted by the vibrant culture and food, Disha even dreams of living there someday. “I’d love to live in Japan at some point – have one house there and one in India. That would be amazing.”

The wanderlust doesn’t end there. Antarctica has been a long-standing dream for her, inspired by countless childhood hours spent watching documentaries. “One day, I’ll go there,” she says, calling it a destination still parked on her bucket list.

When she’s not travelling or training, Disha dabbles in creative outlets — though only if they keep her interest. “I tried drums, piano… but I get bored if I don’t learn fast,” she admits. She’s also painted and played basketball in the past but hasn’t had much time for either lately. What has stayed consistent, however, is her need to keep things tidy. “I think I have OCD,” she jokes. “I’m always fixing things, arranging cupboards.” While she doesn’t call herself a perfectionist, she confesses, “I like things a certain way.”

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal turned 70 yesterday. Filmmaker and producer Mahesh Bhatt, who has worked with the actor on quite a few films like Naam, Sir and Tamanna, spoke about him in an interview with us.

Your association with Paresh Rawal is long and rewarding. When did you first meet him?

It’s difficult to peer through the mist of time and pinpoint the exact moment you meet someone, who looks like the guy next door but carries within him a volcanic talent. And yet, I vividly remember the first time I met Paresh Rawal. It was at Salim Khan Sahib’s house during the casting of Naam. We were struggling to find an actor for a particularly challenging role, the villain who becomes the roadblock in Sanjay Dutt’s path, a role that would eventually help catapult Sanjay to stardom.

What was your reaction on meeting Paresh?

I am coming to that. “This is Paresh Rawal,” said Salim Sahib. I looked up to see a shy, almost meek-looking young man, who stood up respectfully and shook my hand. I was told he had a bit part in Arjun, a film starring Sunny Deol and directed by Rahul Rawail. But do you know what gravitated me to Paresh?

Tell me?

What drew me in was not his resume—it was his passion for theatre. That was enough for me. Here was a newcomer, thirsty and trained by the stage, someone who would bring an earthiness to the role that was essential. The character was a drug baron, settled overseas but deeply rooted in India. Paresh carried that dust, that fragrance of the land, in his very soul.

You went on to together bleed brilliancy into several projects

His performance in Naam—especially the chilling scene where he warns Sanjay Dutt’s character that this business is a one-way street with “no entry” on the other side—remains etched in people’s memories. The menace in that delivery still resonates. But it was in Tamanna, Pooja Bhatt’s first National Award-winning film, that Paresh truly stole my heart. He played the role of Tiku, a transgender who raises a girl child rescued from the streets of Mumbai.

When I narrated the story to him, he was visibly shaken. He said he would give his heart to the role—and he did. I have rarely seen such total surrender to a part. He became a devotee. I recall a particular scene with Nadira ji—who plays a fading actress slipping into madness—where he gently tries to feed her. That moment, tender and heart-breaking, stands among the tallest performances I have witnessed in Indian cinema.

In my opinion, the piece de resistance of your collaboration was Sir

Sir—prior to Tamanna—where he played Veljibhai, opposite his favourite actor, Naseeruddin Shah. Naseer was stunning in the film, but it was Paresh’s grounded, layered performance that astounded everyone. He played a gangster whose hands were drenched in blood, but who remained in awe of the teacher who came to tutor his daughter. His reverence for Naseer was real, and it showed. In Kubzaa, too, again as Veljibhai, he created a semi-cult classic. Another menacing gangster, rooted in Kutch, with the scent of the earth captured on celluloid.

Your closing thoughts on one of finest actors?

As Paresh turns 70, I look back with deep fondness and gratitude. I recall how he supported a young, struggling theatre director and producer trying to stage a play in Delhi, how he never forgot his roots in NSD (National School of Drama) and the stage, and how the legacy continues through his son, Aditya Rawal. Aditya’s brilliant turn as a terrorist in Hansal Mehta’s Faraaz made me believe that the stream is flowing strong—he will not just carry the legacy forward, he might just surpass it. So here’s to you, Paresh. Seventy years young, still burning bright. You have the vitality, the bite, and the fragrance of the soil in every role you inhabit. And I have a feeling your greatest performances may still be ahead of you.

But more than just being there, Saif spoke about the importance of showing up in the little ways. The kind that don’t get documented, but hold everything together. “Working is important, yes. But so is cooking pasta together, having a meal, and focusing on the kids. That’s the real glue of life.” His perspective is clear and grounded. Real success lies not in the spotlight but in the quiet moments. At the dinner table. On school breaks. In choosing time over attention. “Success and privilege, for me, is being able to say no to work and yes to time with my family.”

Filmmaker Mehran Amrohi’s Chidiya hits theatres today after a 10-year wait. Starring Vinay Pathak, Amruta Subhash, Svar Kamble, Ayush Pathak, Inaamulhaq, Brijendra Kala, and Muzaffar Khan, the film is about lost childhood. Amrohi speaks about the film and more in an interview with us.

What are your feelings as Chidiya has finally been released after a 10-year wait? Honestly, sir, I’m very emotional. I may be a writer, but I don’t think I have the words to express it. This is my first film, and I shot it nearly 10 years ago. The fact that it’s finally releasing means a lot to me. At the same time, I’m also nervous — just like a student before an exam. Your steps feel unsure, your words feel jumbled… but somewhere inside, there’s hope.

Child labour is a sensitive subject. How did you handle it in your film? Chidiya isn’t about just one issue. It’s a story about ordinary lives, the kind many people live every day, especially in financially weaker sections. Yes, child labour exists in the world of the film, but I didn’t treat it as a special topic. I showed it as part of daily reality, just like many other struggles that poor families quietly face.

What inspired you to explore the lives of two underprivileged but happy boys? I’ve always noticed how some kids grow up too fast, not because they want to, but because life leaves them no choice. I’ve seen such kids in chawls and small towns, since I come from a small town myself. Even with all their struggles, they still find reasons to laugh, play, and dream. That balance, between hardship and hope, really moved me.

Did anyone tell you that this was a risky way to start your career as a director? Yes, many people said so. They asked why I’d make my first film without stars or glamour, or any commercial formula. But honestly, it never felt like a small film to me. It felt true. And I wasn’t trying to make a smart career move. I just wanted to tell a story that mattered to me.

How did you find the perfect actors for both the kids and adults in the film? It took time, and a lot of instinct. I auditioned many kids, but when I saw Svar Kamble and Ayush Pathak, I just knew. They weren’t acting — they were living those moments naturally.

For the adults, I was fortunate. Vinay Pathak and Amruta Subhash brought honesty and depth. They didn’t “perform” — they simply became part of the world. That honesty added so much to the film.

Who are your influences apart from Satyajit Ray and Vittorio De Sica? And what did you learn from them? I’ve been deeply influenced by Majid Majidi — the way he finds beauty in everyday life, and how he tells stories through silence and small gestures. From Ray, especially Charulata, I was so inspired that I even tried to recreate one of his shots in Chidiya. It was my little tribute to a great filmmaker.

I haven’t gone to film school or assisted any director. My understanding of cinema has come from watching films, listening to film discussions, and learning slowly on my own.

How has your connection to your distant kin Kamal Amrohi influenced you? Kamal Amrohi isn’t just an inspiration for me — he’s a source of pride for every aspiring filmmaker from Amroha and the surrounding region. I met him only once when I was a child, maybe 5 or 6 years old, and I still remember how graceful he was. Later, I watched his films, Mahal, Pakeezah, and to this day, whenever I feel low, I watch his work again. It gives me strength.

Mehra shared that the fabric was deliberately left loose and flowing, mirroring how “Kali Maa herself would wear it – wild, free, and totally unapologetic.” This unstructured silhouette allowed the garment to embody both strength and freedom.

At the heart of the look was a striking gold corset blouse that functioned as both a sartorial centrepiece and symbolic armour. Intricately embellished with mirrorwork and bead detailing, the blouse fused traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary edge. “Part jewellery, part power statement,” the piece turned Kajol’s outfit into more than just attire; it became a declaration.

The look was elevated by understated yet intentional accessories. Gold bangles adorned her wrists, and a black bindi drew the eye to her steady, composed gaze. Hair kept natural and makeup that highlighted her features rounded off the look, allowing the outfit and Kajol’s presence in it to command the frame.

Karate Kid: Legends Movie Review Synopsis: KARATE KID: LEGENDS is the story of the fight between a kung fu prodigy and a karate champion. Li Fong (Ben Wang) is a teenager in Beijing, China who learns Kung Fu from Shifu Han (Jackie Chan) at his school in Beijing, China. Li's mother (Ming-Na Wen), a doctor, accepts a lucrative offer in New York City, USA. She and Li shift to the Big Apple and the former asks the latter to quit martial arts. Li's brother was killed due to the sport and hence, his mother is wary of Li getting sucked into martial arts. Li also realizes where his mother comes from and accepts her condition. In New York City, Li soon befriends Mia (Sadie Stanley), daughter of Victor Lipani (Joshua Jackson), a former boxer turned pizzeria owner. Li and Mia get close and one day, he gets attacked by Mia's ex-boyfriend Connor Day (Aramis Knight). Though Li has learned Kung Fu, he is no match for Connor. Mia and Connor have a long history not just due to their relationship but also because Victor owes money to the ex-boyfriend's sensei, O'Shea (Tim Rozon). How Li gets involved in this feud forms the rest of the film.

Karate Kid: Legends Movie Story Review: The story is routine. Rob Lieber's screenplay is fast-paced and peppered with humour, drama and of course, martial arts. However, the writing has issues in some places. The dialogues add to the entertainment.

Jonathan Entwistle's direction is simple. The film has a mainstream appeal and can be enjoyed by both masses and classes. The film is just 95 minutes long and doesn’t waste time. The characters are neatly fleshed out; some scenes are unexpected and keep the interest going. For instance, such films usually depict the protagonist getting training from an expert master. Here, the protagonist is the expert, at least in the first half. Secondly, a scene in the second half involves two master sensei squabbling while the poor protagonist suffers; this one-of-a-kind scene will be loved. The finale is clapworthy, though one can see it coming from a mile.

On the flipside, KARATE KID: LEGENDS tells a story which has been beaten to death. Certain developments are bewildering. The scene where Mia goes back to Connor is unconvincing, despite the former's justification later on. The mother's character is half-baked and the same goes for the villain. Also, Connor fighting Li in school is fun but one wonders what the former was doing in the latter's alma mater in the first place.

Karate Kid: Legends Movie Review Performances: Ben Wang plays the lead part with aplomb. His fighting skills are impressive. Jackie Chan is hardly there in the first half but dominates the post-interval portion. He is adorable as always but one wishes he had done more action. Sadie Stanley makes her presence felt while Joshua Jackson leaves a huge mark. Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) has a late entry but makes up for it with his act. Aramis Knight is fine as the villain but is let down by the writing. Ming-Na Wen and Tim Rozon are okay. Wyatt Oleff (Alan) is lovely.

Karate Kid: Legends movie music and other technical aspects: Dominic Lewis's music is well-woven into the narrative. Justin Brown's cinematography is appropriate, particularly in the action scenes. Mirren Gordon-Crozier's costumes are straight out of real life. Jon Billington and Maya Sigel's production design is fair. The action is a highlight while the VFX, shockingly, is tacky in a couple of shots, a rarity in big Hollywood films. Dana E Glauberman's editing is too fast-paced.

Karate Kid: Legends Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, KARATE KID: LEGENDS is a straightforward, action-packed entertainer targeted at families and fans of the franchise. Its mainstream appeal, the presence of a popular actor in the Hindi version, and the lack of competition this week are likely to ensure decent footfalls.

Synopsis: CRIMINAL JUSTICE: A FAMILY MATTER, which is the fourth season of the series, is a murder mystery cum courtroom drama. Dr Raj Nagpal (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) is a renowned surgeon in Mumbai. He is separated from his wife Anju (Surveen Chawla) for more than a year but not divorced. She stays in the house next door as she wants to be there for their daughter Ira (Khushi Bhardwaj), who has Asperger’s Syndrome. Anju is a lawyer but she gave up her practice 10 years ago to look after Ira. Raj has also kept a nurse Roshni (Asha Negi) for Ira’s needs. With time, Raj and Roshni come close and fall in love. Anju has no issues with this. During Ira’s birthday party, a conflict takes place between Raj and Roshni. The latter leaves the house in a hush. Early next morning, the Nagpals’ house help Kamala (Amrut Sant) enters the house to find Roshni dead and lying in a pool of blood with Raj holding her body. The police believe Raj is the murderer and take him into custody as prime suspect. Anju approaches Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) to be Raj’s lawyer, to which he agrees. Madhav is no longer a dark horse. He has become quite renowned. His team includes Shivani Mathur (Barkha Singh), his brother-in-law Deep (Aatm Prakash Mishra) and his wife Ratna (Khushboo Atre). Will Madhav be able to provide justice once again forms the rest of the story.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter Story Review: The show is adapted from the British show of the same name. Harman Wadala, Rahul Ved Prakash, Varsha Ramachandran and Riya Poojary’s story is a mixture of new and old. The novel factor is the unusual family where a man and his wife, although separated, are neighbours while the former’s mistress is also a part of family. But at the end of the day, the show is a whodunit and this becomes the main focus later on. Hence, the whole format appears repetitive as there has already been previous three seasons on the same theme. Another issue is the high length of the last three episodes. Thankfully, the final moments turn out to be a saving grace as the final twist is not only surprising but also moving.

Another saving grace is the screenplay by Harman Wadala, Sandeep Hain and Sameer Mishra. Except for a few unwanted moments, it keeps you engrossed throughout. This time, there are no scenes focusing on the terrible life inside jails for under trials, which is good as this aspect has been explored before in detail in previous seasons. Harman Wadala, Sandeep Hain and Sameer Mishra’s dialogues (with additional lines by Anurag Pandey) are conversational but at the same time witty, especially the ones given to Madhav Mishra’s character.

Rohan Sippy’s direction is pretty good, just like the previous two seasons. He has succeeded in keeping things under control.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter Performances The performances clearly fall in the positive. Pankaj Tripathi once again succeeds in making his iconic character of Madhav Mishra interesting and entertaining. The way he switches between being serious and sarcastic deserves mention. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub justifies his talent yet again while playing a complex character. He portrays various emotions effortlessly and, at times, speaks through expressions. Surveen Chawla also leaves behind a solid impact in a difficult character. Asha Negi fits the character of Roshni to the T and delivers a convincing act.

Khushi Bhardwaj is the surprise package. She is simply brilliant in the role of a teenager suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome. Shweta Basu Prasad again does well as the cunning opposition lawyer Lekha Agastya. This time her character is less mean. Mita Vashisht as the senior lawyer Mandira Mathur is effortlessly good. Amruta Sant (Kamala) is memorable despite limited screen time. From Madhav’s team, Barkha Singh, Aatm Prakash Mishra and Khushboo Atre chip in with good supporting acts. From the rest of the recurring cast, Kalyanee Mulay (police officer Gauri Karmarkar) and Ajeet Singh Palawat (inspector Harsh Pradhan) continue their good work.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter music and other technical aspects: Sameer Phaterpekar’s music adds the right amount of thrill and becomes loud only when needed. Murzy Pagdiwala’s camerawork is simple, which goes with the theme. Gaurav Aggarwal’s editing is slick but he could have used his scissors more in the last three episodes. Sunil Nigvekar’s production design and Sujata Rajain’s costumes are more into the realistic zone, going well with the theme.

Criminal Justice: A Family Matter Conclusion: On the whole, CRIMINAL JUSTICE: A FAMILY MATTER is an engrossing ‘affair’ with fine performances. However, with four seasons following the same format, the show is now becoming repetitive.

Bhushan Kumar came on stage. Pritam Chakraborty then raised laughs as he revealed, “I have been working in the music industry for more than 20 years. I have not seen somebody as passionate as him. Whether it's 1:00 am or 2:00 am, he's always awake. Hum inse darte hai. Once he caught me at Lokhandwala Back Road from his car and said 'Gaane ka master do'! I was going aaram se listening to songs when suddenly he came in front of me and said ‘Master chahiye mujhe abhi ke abhi’!” Bhushan Kumar, too, couldn’t stop laughing over this incident.

Another special highlight was when the whole team of the film came on stage and performed on ‘Zamaana Lage’. This was followed by an unplugged version by Pritam and a performance of an unreleased track from the film.

In a candid new interview with Hindi Rush, actor Sooraj Pancholi spoke at length about his mother, veteran actress Zarina Wahab, praising her for being the emotional and financial backbone of their family. The Hero actor described her as self-made, resilient, and unwavering in her decisions, despite the many personal challenges she has faced over the years.

“I would love to be a father like my father, and I would love to be a partner like my mother," said Sooraj. “She holds the whole family together, and she has really been through a lot because of us. I have never, ever seen her break down. She has never complained about anything… She’s making her own money, she has never taken even one rupee from my father," he continued.

Highlighting her professional journey, Sooraj pointed out that Zarina Wahab has been working since she was a teenager. “She’s been acting since the age of 16; she’s almost 65 now. She is self-made. She has four homes of her own. She doesn’t come from money. If she wanted to leave, she could have done it long back. Sometimes, women don’t leave because they don’t have backup… She had a route to go to Hyderabad; she has a home in Bandra also. She has her mother’s home in Bandra. She has four sisters, one of them is in America. She has four brothers. She could have left any time, but it’s her decision to stay. I can’t judge their arrangement," he stated hinting at the complex dynamic between his parents.

In an earlier interview, Zarina Wahab had indirectly acknowledged husband Aditya Pancholi’s extramarital affairs, sparking debate. She had shared that while he doesn’t get his affairs home, when he enters the house, he is an excellent father and husband. Wahab further added that how many men, despite having affairs, run their family. The veteran actress had insisted that she doesn’t take these things seriously, a revelation that had surprised many.

Despite past controversies, Sooraj Pancholi’s tribute paints a picture of a woman who chose to stay on her terms, without ever compromising on her dignity or independence. Meanwhile, speaking of Jr. Pancholi himself, the actor, who himself faced several controversies himself, made his big screen comeback with Kesari Veer last week, as the film hit theatres on May 23.

Singer Aastha Gill, known for her chartbusters like ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ and ‘DJ Wale Babu’ among others, has come up with her latest single called ‘Paapi’. The song is a dance number which is also performed by Aastha in the music video directed by Piyush-Shazia. It is composed by Puri while Prateeksha Shrivastava, Aastha and Charan have come up with the lyrics.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Aastha spoke about the journey of the song, her bond with Badshah and Salman Khan and why she is a proud 1990s child.

How would you describe ‘Paapi’ and how was your experience of bringing this song to life?

Honestly, I have been working on the song for the past two years. In between, we had left it as we weren’t able to crack the antara. But recently, I took up the song again. I sat with the co-writer of the song Prateeksha. We were able to crack it in one session itself. She came up with this beautiful composition. I wrote something; she wrote something. And when it was made, I was like, “Mil gaya! Yehi karna hai mujhe abhi!”. Until I get a kick, I can’t decide whether I want to release a song. Puri has done a great job in producing the song. He was the same person who produced ‘Naagin’. When this one was made, I knew it would be a hit. Then everyone at Warner (Music) loved it and I knew this was a big one.

Any reason why you zeroed in on the word ‘Paapi’?

When Puri made me hear the beat two years ago, I instantly thought about the Spanish ‘Papi’. But I felt this won’t make any sense. However, I thought we can do this in Hindi as well. That’s how the idea came that Hindi ‘Paapi’ can be a very good hook.

The music video of the song seems to be shot lavishly with quite a few costume changes

It was challenging. It was an 18-hour straight shoot. There were three changes (of costumes) back-to-back. For 18 hours, we hadn’t slept or eaten. During my shoots, I don’t eat anything heavy. So, I used to munch something in between, like an apple. But the energy was so good. Piyush and Shazia did a beautiful job. Because they had already done their homework for the video, there were no issues during the shoot as they knew what they wanted from me. I knew what I had to do in front of the camera. Everything went on so well that the 18 hours just flowed.

Singers who can dance and perform, like you do, seem to have more advantage over others

It’s definitely an advantage. It’s like a package, which sells more. If you are a complete package of everything, it’s easier for you to get accepted by people.

Badshah has been your mentor. How important has he been in your life?

Very important! Even before I thought that I can do it, Badshah bhai thought. He gave me this vision saying yeh tu kar sakti hai. He gave me that strength; that’s why I am here today. He gave me the right platform. I did so many shows with him that now there is no fear of the stage. While supporting each other, we have also seen challenges. We have also done shows where there were no people in front of us. So, to handle that kind of stage also we learnt by encouraging each other. I learnt a lot from Badshah bhai, like how to engage the audience.

Your first hit song ‘Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai’ was also with Badshah. How much did you expect this song to become a rage?

To tell you the truth, I was not even aware that I was recording this song for Bollywood. After I recorded the song, I realized that Disney is coming up with their first film in Bollywood, Khoobsurat (2014) in which this song will be used. Badshah bhai told this to me and the next thing is Rhea Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor walking in. I was stunned. I was like, “Yeh kya ho raha hai?” For me, it was very new. I was not ready for that. But that song became a rage. Even today, the value of that song is such that whenever I go through some ups and downs, I tell myself, “Arre abhi toh party shuru hui hai, chill kar” (laughs).

You were a part of Salman Khan’s Da-Bangg tour six months back in December 2024. How was it being on an entertainment tour with him?

I had also been on the Da-Bangg tour 4-5 years back. But at that time, I had gone as a female singer in Badshah bhai’s team. At that time, I met Salman sir. After that, I had gone to Bigg Boss for some promotion. So, he knew me from before. This time I met again. He meets you with so much love. When we were doing the Da-Bangg show in Hong Kong, he made us sit on the large table in his suite and gave us ghar ka khana to eat. He is a very family person. I also felt that vibe because I am also a very family person. He likes to keep everyone together. This time we met for a short span because he had tight security. But it was very good. He praised my performance.

This was like a big transition for me. Earlier, I went as a background singer with Badshah bhai. Now, it was my own stage. So, I was very happy. I was very emotional that day.

You are known for dance numbers. Have you ever thought of moving away from that image, at least as an experiment?

I have surely thought of that. I will probably do it in an EP (Extended Play). I am already working in an EP which will be in a different vibe. But I am a party, dance and energetic person. So, whenever I work on such songs, I put my 80 percent in that song. I feel that’s why people connect so well with all these songs. That’s why I like to work on dance numbers. That is my personality also. I also have another side, which I keep concealed. I don’t like crying in front of anyone. You will never see me cry. As that saying goes about crying in rains… (laughs). Jokes part, I will let people see the other side of me in the EP I am doing.

You have done Indi pop as well as movie songs. Do you experience any difference while working for both?

There is a lot of difference. My career actually was started because of Indi pop. I think from 2012-2013, the era of Indi pop returned. And my journey started from 2014. So, I think I was also a part of bringing it back. I feel lucky and blessed to be able to do that. I know how much our audience loves Indi pop. In the 1990s, there was a TV show where you can call them and ask them to play a song you wish to listen to. I used to do that and used to listen to Indi pop songs throughout the day. It wasn’t easy at that time to listen to songs; like you just go on the internet and listen. Now, a lot of people must be searching my name and listening to my songs. Thinking about this makes me feel very good.

Who was your favourite Indi pop artiste during those days?

Alisha Chinai because I used to love her voice and videos; she was a package. There was this phase where Sonu Nigam ji also did some lovely songs in Indi pop. ‘Tu… Kab Yeh Jaanegi’ used to be my favourite song. There was this VIVA band. Me and three other friends used to perform like VIVA band back then (laughs) in a room. I have lived that era to the max. I have an emotional connect with the 1990s.

20 Years of Bunty Aur Babli: Amitabh Bachchan recalls his rap video days: "I'm neither God nor dude - I'm Amitabh Bachchan" https://ift.tt/074OiQD

Amitabh Bachchan fondly recalls shooting a special music video for the promotion of Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli, which celebrates its 20th anniversary.

“It was the visuals for the rap track ‘B & B’ from Bunty Aur Babli — very catchy, very young,” Mr. Bachchan remembers. “The trend of placing a music video or an item song with the opening or end titles began at Yash Raj Films with Dhoom. I really enjoyed filming it.”

The rap number was choreographed by Shiamak Davar, who wasn't physically present during the shoot. “Though Shiamak was out of the country, he gave such minute instructions by proxy that we had no problem following the dance steps. I remember Shah Rukh (Khan) saw it five times! I also did a qawwali, Kajra Re, with Abhishek and Aishwarya. We never imagined it would become such a rage.”

Mr. Bachchan is no stranger to music videos. In the 1980s, during a temporary break from films, he shot a music video based on his hit song Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein with Tamil-Telugu-Malayalam actress Shobana.

“These were minor diversions, meant to generate fun. Frankly, I think I’m too old to be doing dance numbers,” he laughs. “That’s a perception created by the Bunty Aur Babli music video where they made me do a rap song. But I’m neither God nor dude. I’m Amitabh Bachchan.”

He continues, “I was so surprised by the response to the music video. It was a fantastic gambit that paid off. It was Aditya Chopra’s brainchild. He walked in one morning and suggested I do it for the film’s promotion. It was really scary and tough — but somehow, I got through it,” he sighs.

Speaking about Bunty Aur Babli director Shaad Ali, Mr. Bachchan says, “He’s a very loving and compassionate human being. That shows in his work. His film is so different in attitude and sensibility. Look at his work and you’ll see he has drawn his aesthetic values from his childhood in UP. There’s a great deal of culture and artistry coming from both his parents.”

He adds, “There was a lot of deliberate kitsch in Bunty Aur Babli, but nothing jarring. Our cinema has been busy exploring the ambitions of metro-centric characters. How nice it was to dive into the dreams of small-towners — so colourfully and romantically! The visuals in Bunty Aur Babli were so fresh and appealing. Shaad paid tribute to the cinema of the 1960s and 70s.”

Neeraj Ghaywan is back with a feature film in the form of Homebound, 10 years after his remarkable debut with Masaan. The film is a moving drama starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor. The film was recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it received an overwhelming response. Neeraj spoke about the film and its making in an interview with us.

Ten years since your brilliant directorial debut in Masaan. What took you so long to return with a feature film? I've been trying to answer this question for a long time, but I’ve never quite found a fully formed response, perhaps because I was still grappling with impostor syndrome after Masaan. After the film, I received many scripts and interest from studios, but I often stood in my own way. I was searching for something where my identity and my work could merge—something that truly challenges me and resonates deeply with my values and my search for meaning in an increasingly disoriented world. I still don’t have a definitive answer, and maybe that’s okay.

In-between you didn’t stop working. There was that brilliant short film Geeli Pucchi? It’s been a journey shaped by many factors. Along the way, I’ve worked on shorts, anthologies, commercials, and TV shows. And though it’s taken a decade, I’m grateful to finally be here.

And what a triumphant return. Karan Johar tells me you and your film Homebound were the toast of Cannes. How was that experience?  I don’t quite know how to describe the experience. The premiere was overwhelming—in fact, even “overwhelming” feels like an understatement. The audience responded with gasps, sighs, and tears. Some people came up to me, hugged me, and broke down. What moved me most was how the film stopped being just a film—it became personal for so many.

That is the ultimate reward for a filmmaker That feeling is hard to shake. It was a new experience for me. I broke down myself, which felt strange, even a little vain at first: who cries during their own film?

Guru Dutt wept when he saw Kaagaz Ke Phool I think it was a moment of catharsis after four exhausting years of work and carrying the weight of a decade-long wait. Watching Homebound at Cannes with my entire crew and a public audience for the first time, was incredibly emotional. As I watched, memories from my childhood surfaced: like seeing my father pouring water on the cement of the first house we built.

There is similar moment in Homebound? Maybe that’s why it seeped into the film. So much of who we are and how we grow up makes its way into our work, often without us realising it. It lives in the subconscious, and somehow, it finds its way onto the screen. So yes, it was a deeply moving experience—one I’ll carry with me.

What made you choose Ishaan Khattar and Vishal Jethwa for the respective roles?  I feel very lucky to have worked with Ishaan, Vishal and Janhvi. If I were making the film again, I wouldn’t change a thing. Ishaan brought real focus and emotional intelligence; his background as an AD (assistant director) gave him a deep understanding of the process, and he constantly pushed to enrich his character. Vishal brought raw honesty—his performance came from a lived place, and from day one, he fully inhabited the role. We also spent time building their off-screen bond, which helped ground the friendship in the film. Janhvi brought in immense empathy and clarity to her character. She shone through a small part by being the moral core of the film. I am extremely proud of her.

How was Karan Johar as a producer, considering his movie making sensibilities seem somewhat different from yours?  Karan was both incredibly sharp and deeply kind. From the start, he was clear that I should stay true to my voice—there was never any pressure to fit into a mould or match a particular sensibility. He understood how personal this story was and stood by us like a rock, giving us the space and support to tell it with honesty. He’s far more courageous and empathetic than he often gets credit for.

Finally, are you going to deprive us of your next film for another ten years? Ah, hopefully not! But I do try to make choices that feel intentional and meaningful. Filmmaking takes a lot out of you—time, energy, sleep—so it has to be for something that really matters. Right now, we’re still catching our breath after the premiere and figuring out the film’s next steps internationally—and more importantly, Homebound’s homebound journey. It’s only just getting started.

Bipasha Basu is revisiting one of the boldest and most defining roles of her career — her 2003 film Jism. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actress shared how her decision to take up the film was met with strong opposition from everyone around her, including her own manager.

“Jism was the time when I was at the peak, and everyone told me you cannot do adult content film. You are like the typical Hindi heroine who is established in people's hearts now. And I said, I just like the story so much. I said I'll go ahead and do it. Everybody stopped me from doing it. My manager thought I had gone crazy,” Bipasha recalled.

The film, which co-starred John Abraham and featured a sultry narrative, went on to become a critical and commercial success. It not only pushed the envelope in terms of content but also redefined Bipasha's image in the industry—from a conventional Bollywood heroine to a risk-taker who wasn’t afraid of breaking stereotypes.

Looking back, Bipasha believes Jism didn’t just change her career trajectory but also sparked a style revolution among women at the time. “It worked for me and then things changed. Women suddenly were tonging their hair. They wore a bronze look. There was no stereotypical (thing) that the woman can't play the negative character. It all changed after that. So, it's been path-breaking for me. That has been one very important film,” she said.

Directed by Amit Saxena and produced by Pooja Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt, Jism marked a new chapter in Bollywood’s portrayal of sensuality and female characters, with Bipasha taking on a bold and complex role that few actresses at the time were willing to explore. Her performance in Jism received widespread acclaim, and the film is still remembered today for its bold storytelling, music, and aesthetic visuals. More importantly, it opened up space for female actors to explore darker, more layered roles without being confined to traditional portrayals.

Speaking of her current work commitments, Bipasha Basu has been exploring multiple avenues along with motherhood. The actress is yet to announce about her comeback projects.

Single-screen exhibitors and industry stakeholders SLAM multiplexes for charging producers for installing standees, playing trailers: “These multiplexes have COMPLETELY destroyed the sheer fabric of the exhibition sector” https://ift.tt/U6vteDG

The recent row between Bhool Chuk Maaf and PVR has brought to the fore many complaints from the producers about the national chains. One of them is that the makers are asked to pay if they want to put up posters or standees and to play trailers of their films. Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, wrote on his social media pages, “Asking for monies to be paid for trailer playing, film publicity displays at their sites, cinemas which are already in red are further going downhill. With OTT onslaught sitting on their head, they should instead comfort producers & give them ease of doing business, so that more makers are encouraged to take risks & choose the big screen release instead... the exhibition community should avoid nailing their own coffin !!”

We asked Girish Johar to comment more on this aspect. He said, “The cinemas have started asking monies against showcasing film publicity, be it trailers, digital posters, video walls, etc. It is apparently one of the major sources of revenue for theatres. A certain set of producers have started paying for it. This puts the pressure on even other producers. Small-time filmmakers tend to give in. To each its own I feel. But there should not be a blanket rule for everyone in this regard.”

A multiplex official on condition of anonymity revealed how this model works, “They charge Rs. 10,000 per property roughly for it. But usually, they do a package deal. They’ll ask you to pay Rs. 15-20 lakhs. In return, they’ll not just install your film standee and digital poster but also play the trailer of the film, that too in 200-250 of their multiplexes. Sometimes, the deal also includes the film banner on the multiplex’s website or booking app. The producers include this spend under ‘marketing activity’. It’s an additional cost to the producer.”

The official continued, “Pre-pandemic, this used to happen very rarely. But post-pandemic, this has increased as everything is under the red. They realized this is a nice way to earn additional moolah, not realizing that they are killing the same hand that feeds them.”

A duty manager from a prominent multiplex said, “Many non-national chains don’t charge at all for posters or standees. We put it up for free. However, playing the trailer incurs a charge.”

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, commented on this matter saying, “I have heard that the multiplexes charge. I am not sure whether they are doing it or not. But if they do, toh isse bada ghatiya kaam aur kuchh nahin ho sakta hai! If a shopkeeper sells Coca-Cola and decided to install its standee, is he going to charge for it from the soft drink brand? Of course not. This doesn’t happen in any business.”

He continued, “This is the reason why the multiplex business is so messed up in India. These multiplexes, especially PVR Inox, have completely destroyed the sheer fabric of the exhibition sector. It’s no wonder that in 1995, there were 25,000 screens in India before the multiplex era. 30 years later, the number has down to 9000.”

Producer Pahlaj Nihalani, who runs a revamped single-screen Nishat in Mumbai, lashed out at this practice. He said, “PVR Inox has been charging for it since the very start. Then, a lot of new producers came in. Also, many actors turned producers. These people had no qualms about paying for it. Soon, it became a standard practice. What is saddening is that there’s a possibility that your film might not play in some theatres where your trailer is being screened. A viewer has come to see ‘A’ film; he’ll see the trailer of ‘B’ film in the interval and decides to watch it. But then, the film might not get showcasing in that cinema hall. Isn’t that unfair to the producers and also to the moviegoers?”

He made it clear that in the single-screen era, there was never a question of paying to play trailers or install standees. “They never charged and even now, they don’t,” he added. “However, if the projection system in a single screen is provided by a third party like UFO, then they’ll charge.”

Pahlaj continued, “Single screens continue to have great relations with filmmakers. Sadly, the same can’t be said about the multiplexes. They squeeze money in every way possible from us. They are killing new talent and ruining the film business.”

He also said that this practice hurts makers but there’s no solution to it, “There’s no industry leader among producers who can talk about these things. Most of them have isolated fights. It happened with Dinesh Vijan (with Bhool Chuk Maaf). Earlier, Ronnie Screwvala was also alone when he spoke about VPF. His next film (Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota; 2019) didn’t get shows in some theatres as he went against them. Imagine if all the producers rise together and decide not to give films to them. Phir yeh log kahan jaayenge?”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh, however, had a different point of view, “Today, everything is commercial. The multiplexes are allowing the space in their property to install the standee and are also playing the trailer on the screen. Hence, they feel that they need to be compensated because even they are paying higher rent. It’s a circle.”

He added, “I have seen standees being put up of OTT show. Their promo is also screened before the film or during the interval. The multiplexes obviously would charge for it. Why would they play for free?”

Vishek Chauhan, meanwhile, continues to have reservations on this model. He said, “Theatres should not be charging for all this. It’s a matter of pride to put up a poster in your theatres. That’s our primary job – to promote films. If films work, I’ll be at an advantage. And if I am asking the producer to pay for it, then nothing can be more shameless.”

Along with Tamannaah and Diana, the series will also feature Jaaved Jaferi and Nakuul Mehta in significant roles, promising a dynamic and diverse ensemble. Ranjan Tripathi (Rajkummar Rao) is based in Lucknow and lives with his mother (Seema Pahwa), father (Raghubir Yadav) and sister Keri (Pragati Mishra). He is in love with local resident Titli (Wamiqa Gabbi) and both want to get married. But Titli's father (Zakir Hussain) is against this idea as Ranjan is unemployed. Titli is hell-bent on marrying him. Hence, the father insists that Ranjan should find a government job within two months. If he manages to do so, he'll get his daughter married to him. Ranjan goes to insane lengths and finally bags a job in the irrigation department. He and Titli are all set to tie the knot on May 30. On May 29, Ranjan's haldi ceremony is held. The next day, Ranjan wakes up only to see his family getting ready for the Haldi ceremony! He is bewildered, more so when his family members claim that the date is the 29th and not the 30th. Ranjan assumes that he dreamt the whole episode of Haldi. But the next day, he wakes up and realizes that the date still hasn't changed to May 30! To add to his dilemma, no one around him is ready to believe him. What happens next forms the rest of the film. 

Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Story Review: Karan Sharma's story is novel. Karan Sharma's screenplay (additional screenplay by Haider Rizvi) has its share of engaging and entertaining moments but the writing suffers in several scenes. Karan Sharma's dialogues (additional dialogues by Haider Rizvi) are hilarious and sharp. However, so many toilet jokes could have been avoided.

Karan Sharma's direction is decent, more so considering that it's his debut flick. Despite such an unusual subject, he tries his best to make you believe that what's happening with Ranjan is very much possible. A few scenes stand out like the madness at the police station and Titli trolling a potential match followed by Ranjan's dramatic entry. Post-interval, the sequence where Ranjan decides to speak kind-heartedly to everyone will be loved. The finale is sweet.

Sadly, the film is not without its share of blemishes. The makers have ended up showing too much in the trailer. Hence, though the first half is lovely, it is largely predictable. It's in the second half where the film finally goes into the unexpected zone. Even here, the film suffers as the narrative stagnates in between. A few developments are silly. It's unconvincing that Ranjan took a while to realise what 'nek kaarya' is all about. He also takes a long time to convince Hamid Ansari (Akash Makhija). Anyone in Ranjan's shoes would not have jumped into the waters so many times. He would have given his all to persuade Hamid so that he could get out of the mess. Lastly, the music is not upto the mark.

Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Review Performances: Rajkummar Rao rises above the script and delivers an entertaining as well as touching performance. Wamiqa Gabbi shines in her first major theatrical role. Her expressions, especially, are quite superb. Sanjay Mishra (Bhagwandas) leaves a huge mark in a small role. Ishtiyak Khan (Kishan) and Dheerendra Gautam (Hari) lend able support and raise laughs. Pragati Mishra manages to register her presence. Akash Makhija, Seema Pahwa, Raghubir Yadav, Zakir Hussain, Anubha Fatehpuria (Titli’s mother), Jay Thakkar (Sushil), Vineet Kumar (priest), Himanshu Kohli (Jija) and others are fine. Dhanashree Verma (Jugni) is sizzling in the item number. 

Bhool Chuk Maaf movie music and other technical aspects: Tanishk Bagchi's music doesn't have a shelf life. This is shocking since Maddock Films is known for hit music. 'Chor Bazari Phir Se' is the only one that is memorable. 'Sawariya Tera' and 'Koi Naa' work mainly due to their placement and picturization. The same goes for 'Hutt Badmaash'. 'Ting Ling Sajna' is a forgettable item number and is forced. Ketan Sodha's background score is quirky, just like the film’s theme.

Sudeep Chatterjee's cinematography is satisfactory. Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty's production design is classy and straight out of life. Sheetal Iqbal Sharma's costumes are realistic. Manish Madan Pradhan's editing could have been crisper. 

Bhool Chuk Maaf Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, BHOOL CHUK MAAF rests on a novel idea and the entertaining performance of Rajkummar Rao. But the film suffers due to a predictable first half as well as weak and stagnant writing. At the box office, the film might face a tough time, especially due to its premiere on an OTT platform in just two weeks.

Divya Prabha had a phenomenal last year with her film All We Imagine As Light receiving worldwide acclaim. She recently turned a year older on May 18. This happened to be her first birthday after the success of her movie. She got talking about her special day in an interview with us.

This birthday was special as it comes after your career-changing film I don’t usually celebrate my birthdays. They’ve never felt that important to me, and I’m not sure why. But sometimes, I end up being on a film set on my birthday, so the crew celebrates, and I just go along with it. This year was no different. I didn’t plan anything special, but my close ones, friends or family, brought a cake, and I celebrated with them. For me, it’s really about the people around me. If they want to celebrate, I’m happy to be part of it.

All We Imagine As Light has changed your life? All We Imagine As Light definitely brought more visibility. And I do feel that the quality of roles being offered to me has improved. The characters are stronger and more layered than before. But in terms of quantity, I wouldn’t say there’s been a big shift. I’ve done three films recently. One is currently running in theatres and doing well, and two more are yet to be released. I’m very excited about both of those; they’re really interesting projects, and I’m looking forward to seeing how audiences respond to them.

Last year you were at Cannes with Payal Kapadia I’m incredibly proud of Payal — we all are. Last year, we were standing together at Cannes for the film’s premiere, and this year, she’s back as a jury member. That’s such a huge moment, and she truly deserves it. I feel lucky to have worked with her.

Any chance of the two of you getting together again? I would love to work with Payal again — anytime, anywhere. I keep telling her, even if it’s a small role, just call me! I’ll be there. I’m always curious and excited to collaborate with her again because her way of storytelling and the kind of world she creates is something I deeply connect with.

Since the beginning of this month, Shah Rukh Khan fans have been in for a treat thanks to a gentleman named Amar Talwar. He posted unseen pictures of Shah Rukh Khan at a time when he used to do theatre. Those pics had a certain raw, unfiltered quality and it was no surprise that it went viral in no time. 3 days ago, he posted pictures featuring Shah Rukh Khan with fellow actors Deepika Deshpande Amin, Divya Seth Shah and the late Rituraj Singh, travelling in a train and making merry while posing in different, fun styles. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Deepika Deshpande Amin and she revealed that this is not the first time that these pics have appeared on the internet.

When asked when these pictures were clicked, Deepika Deshpande Amin said, “I can’t remember the exact year, but this was in the early 90s. We were doing a play in Kolkata; the whole cast and crew were travelling there by train. It was a long journey, and we were standing near the door. Amar Talwar, who’s also a photographer, apart from being an actor, was clicking pictures. We decided to give different-different expressions. It was great fun (laughs)! I had posted even before but this time, suddenly, some website picked it up and now, it's all over the place.” She added, “Actually, even earlier, when I posted these pics on Instagram, some news websites had picked it up.”

Whose idea was it to flash the middle finger? Deepika Deshpande Amin revealed that all the expressions were given by the cast randomly, “Aise hi pagalpanti kar rahe the. Amar Talwar was clicking and we were laughing away, deciding what expressions to give. Then we whispered amongst ourselves, turned and posed with our middle finger up. Amar had a good laugh as he clicked the pic. We all were rolling with laughter after that.” On her Instagram handle, she has neatly explained what kind of expressions were given in each of the four pictures.

Is she still in touch with her batchmates? Deepika Deshpande Amin replied, “Yes, with most of them. Shah Rukh se toh itna milna hota nahin hai but whenever I run into him, he’s very warm. When we shot for Fan (2016), we kept talking about old times, ‘Remember this?’ and ‘Remember that?’! I meet Divya occasionally. I was quite in touch with Rituraj; unfortunately, he passed away. That was really a shock to us.”

When asked if she recalls the first time, she met Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika said, “I don’t remember. But it was in TAG (Theatre Action Group; founded by Barry John). We were all working on a play.”

Future plans

Deepika Deshpande Amin also spoke about what the audience can expect from her next, “I am waiting for my film to release, which I shot sometime back. It’s called Imaginary Rain, and it co-stars Shabana Azmi. It is directed by Vikas Khanna. Shabana plays the lead while I play her younger stepsister. It’s a very interesting film. There’s one more film of mine whose release I am waiting for, but I can’t divulge its name right now.”

She continued, “Things are taking really long to release. There’s a backlog. Kaam karke ready rakha hai. Ab bas parosna baaki hai!”

Meanwhile, she is happy with the response to her web series, Bada Naam Karenge, backed by Rajshri. She explained that her biggest USP was that it stood out from the crowd, “The fact that Bada Naam Karenge is not conventional is the reason why people have liked it so much. People are fed-up of maar dhaad, gaali galoch.”
