The cherished mother-daughter duo smiled gracefully and even paused to pose for selfies with their adoring fans before entering the pandal.

A video posted online captured a protective moment as Aishwarya guided Aaradhya through the crowd, ensuring her daughter's safety while navigating the throng of well-wishers. They radiated warmth and reverence, pausing to greet fans with folded hands for a photograph at the pandal.

Aishwarya looked striking in a white ethnic suit, complemented by bold red lipstick and a subtle bindi. Her daughter Aaradhya looked equally enchanting in a mustard-yellow kurta set.

Did Farah Khan just confirm the secret wedding of Nargis Fakhri? Viral video with Tony Beig sparks buzz https://ift.tt/3gHMztG

Nargis Fakhri has once again become the talk of the town, this time not for a film project but for her personal life. A video from a recent high-profile event celebrating the collaboration between Visit Qatar and the Nita Ambani Cultural Centre is going viral on social media, all thanks to a playful moment between the actress, filmmaker Farah Khan, and Nargis’ longtime beau Tony Beig.

The clip shows Nargis posing with paparazzi alongside Farah Khan, when Farah can be seen calling out to Tony Beig, seemingly asking him to stand “near his wife.” While Farah’s words weren’t audible, eagle-eyed fans on social media were quick to lip-read the moment — and they are convinced that Farah just casually confirmed the actress’ marriage.

This candid exchange has reignited chatter about reports that surfaced earlier this year, claiming Nargis had tied the knot with the US-based businessman in a hush-hush ceremony in California. Although no official photos of the bride and groom emerged, a series of glimpses from the intimate event, including a wedding cake adorned with the initials ‘NF & TB’, had gone viral in February, sparking speculation.

Despite the mounting buzz, Nargis has remained tight-lipped about her alleged marriage. Even during her recent appearance in the ensemble comedy Housefull 5, the actress refrained from addressing questions about her personal life.

The viral video, however, has given fans just the kind of confirmation they were waiting for. With Farah Khan’s playful nudge, social media is flooded with congratulatory messages, fan edits, and curiosity over why Nargis chose to keep her big day under wraps.

Whether or not the actress makes an official statement, one thing is certain — the internet has already declared Nargis Fakhri and Tony Beig as Bollywood’s newest secretly married couple!

Shashank Khaitan brings back his signature quirky flavor with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari https://ift.tt/HNMu48d

Bollywood is ready to welcome a vibrant dose of romance, comedy, and family drama this October as Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari hits the big screen. Headlined by Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film promises to deliver a wholesome experience at a time when multiplexes are often dominated by heavy action and high-stakes thrillers. For director Shashank Khaitan, this project also marks a spirited return to his signature style of light-hearted entertainers.

One of the many reasons Khaitan’s films stand out is his distinct taste in titles. He has always opted for names that feel rooted, playful, and instantly relatable. His very first outing, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, carried a rustic charm that connected with audiences across regions. Its follow-up, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, carried the same heartland appeal with an equally catchy ring.

Even when he experimented with Govinda Naam Mera, the title carried his trademark touch — desi, unusual, and fun. With his new offering, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Khaitan continues the streak. The name itself suggests a mix of tradition, humor, and quirk, setting the tone for what promises to be an all-out family entertainer.

Over the years, Khaitan has carved a niche for himself with films that not only entertain but also appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers — families, youngsters, and casual moviegoers alike. His stories often balance emotions with humor, giving audiences something light yet memorable. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari seems to follow in the same footsteps, aiming to offer a fun-filled escape to cinema lovers.

Alongside Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film also features Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, and Akshay Oberoi in pivotal roles. Written by Shashank Khaitan in collaboration with Ishita Moitra, and produced by Dharma Productions in association with Mentor Disciple Film, the movie is all set to arrive in cinemas on October 2, 2025.

With its colorful cast, relatable humor, and Khaitan’s ever-reliable knack for catchy titles, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari could easily become one of the most talked-about entertainers of the festive season.

16 Years of Quick Gun Murugan: Shashanka Ghosh reveals, “It was meant to have a sequel titled The Good, The Bad, The Idli” https://ift.tt/7lfyiUt

How did something so crazy ever get made? I am really grateful that the film got made. It required a large dose of guts, and producer Anand Surapur sure did have that. I feel it has the kind of unconventionality that makes it relevant even today—from its themes to its characters and storyline.

How was the idea of Quick Gun Murugan born? The writer Rajesh Devraj was struck by the 1960s Tamil western genre. So, he added the ‘veg vs non-veg’ theme, the concept of life after death, and a hero who aspires to be a normal bank employee.

How did you ever think you could get away with it? We lived in more optimistic times, so the ‘get-away-with-it’ belief was stronger.

Tell me about the zany casting. The producer Anand came up with Rajendra Prasad. I fell in love with him the moment I met him. Rambha was a natural tribute to the genre. Nasser was a bonus.

Why didn’t you carry forward the idea into a franchise? We had planned a sequel. It was to be called The Good, The Bad, The Idli.

Sidharth Malhotra gets candid about fatherhood: From 3 am feedings to diaper duty, actor shares new life chapter https://ift.tt/CXlzOsZ

Sidharth Malhotra has always been admired for his charm on-screen, but this time it’s his off-screen role that has left fans swooning. During his recent appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix, where he was promoting his upcoming film Param Sundari with Janhvi Kapoor, the actor spoke openly discussed fatherhood with actor-comedian host Kapil Sharma for the very first time.

Sharing candid details about his new role as a dad, Sidharth revealed how his schedule has completely transformed. “Arey pura schedule change ho gaya, abhi main waheen se aa raha hoon subeh subeh. Chahe woh khaane peene ka dhyaan ho, unke sleeping pattern ho, aaj kal raat ko late nights chal rahi hai par alag kisam ki! Teen chaar baje feeding ho raha (My entire schedule has changed, I just came here directly this morning. Whether it’s their food, their sleeping pattern—these days late nights are happening but of a different kind! Feeding happens around 3–4 AM),” he laughed.

The actor went on to describe his role in the household with his trademark humor where he credited Kiara for looking after baby duties while calling himself a mere ‘bystander’. “Main toh abhi supporting actor play kar raha hoon, jo sirf wahan pe khade hoke dekh raha hai, (Right now I’m just playing a supporting actor, the one who stands there and watches)”, added Malhotra.

When Archana Puran Singh quizzed him about diaper changes, Sidharth admitted, “Kiya hai diaper change, aur bina diaper ka ‘oops moment’ bhi experience kiya hai ab toh (I’ve done diaper changes, and yes, I’ve also experienced the ‘oops moment’ without a diaper now)”. His honest confessions not only left the audience in splits but also struck a chord with young parents who could relate to his stories.

Sidharth’s openness about fatherhood comes two years after his dreamy wedding with Kiara Advani in February 2023. The couple, who tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Rajasthan, have always been fan favorites, with their love story blossoming from on-screen chemistry in Shershaah (2021) to real-life romance. Their fairytale marriage was followed by speculations about starting a family, and Sidharth’s revelations now confirm that the couple has indeed stepped into this new phase of life.

As he gears up for Param Sundari opposite Janhvi Kapoor, Sidharth’s reflections on balancing fatherhood with his career only make fans admire him more. With humor, humility, and heart, the actor is proving that his best role yet may just be that of a doting dad.

PARAM SUNDARI is a breezy, light-hearted watch that connects well Movie Review: PARAM SUNDARI is a pleasant rom-com https://ift.tt/r9Pa4iQ

Star cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor

Param Sundari Movie Review Synopsis: PARAM SUNDARI is the story of a man in search of a perfect business idea and love. Param (Sidharth Malhotra) is the son of a wealthy businessman (Sanjay Kapoor) in Delhi. Param has tried his hands in various businesses and start-ups but has never achieved success. He once gets a proposal from a guy named Shekhar (Abhishek Banerjee) who has developed a dating app. He wants Param to invest in his app as he is sure it will do wonders in helping youngsters find their match. When Param tries the app on himself, he is matched with Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) from a village in Kerala. In order to check whether the app works, he decides to stay in the home stay offered by Sundari. Param’s father gives him one month to find a match, post which he agrees to invest in the app. Param lands up in Kerala with his best friend Jaggi (Manjot Singh). He and Sundari don’t get along well initially but soon get fond of each other. However, a twist in the tale becomes a thorn in the path for Param and Sundari’s love story.

Param Sundari Movie Story Review: Tushar Jalota, Gaurav Mishra and Aarsh Arora’s story is not novel. But Tushar Jalota’s screenplay is fresh. The story is presented in a new age manner with some interesting and funny situations thrown as the couple gradually falls in love. The twist at the interval, again, isn't something new in this genre of films. But it surprises you because the makers have refrained from showing any of this in the trailer. The dialogues are conversational with natural humour but some cheezy lines could have been avoided.

Tushar Jalota's direction is simple as well as fresh. He has kept things light hearted. He has ensured that things don't get too heavy even when a serious twist is thrown. In. Two sequences stand out in the all-important second half. The boat race sequence and the climax. The latter deserves more mention as it's simple and uncomplicated. In such genre of stories, the ending tends to become emotionally heavy or melodramatic. But that isn't the case here.

On the flipside, as mentioned above, the story is tried and tested. You will find plenty of films with this storyline. Therefore, the climax is also anybody's guess. Before the release, there was a chatter on social media about the film being similar to CHENNAI EXPRESS and 2 STATES. But it actually reminds you of DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE. More so, also because of the hero's father's angle and what all he does in the second half.

Param Sundari – Official Trailer | Sidharth Malhotra | Janhvi Kapoor

Param Sundari Movie Review Performances: Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor suit as a pair. Sidharth scores well in a typical lover boy role. His antics and way of speaking suit this genre of films. Janhvi Kapoor looks ravishing and suits the image of a half Malayalam-half Tamilian girl. She scores in emotions and dialogue delivery, except for few occasions where her Malayalam accent appears forced. Sanjay Kapoor is a surprise package in an energetic performance. Majot Singh is like a typical friend of the hero you find in such genre of films. Renji, who plays Venu in the film, does well too.

Param Sundari Music and other technical aspects: Composer duo Sachin-Jigar’s music goes with the nature of the film. ‘Pardesiya’ is a brilliant love ballad and it becomes a theme of the film. ‘Danger’ is a fun track and it encourages you to tap your feet. The rest of the songs are functional. Sachin-Jigar’s background score is effective. They have generously used ‘Pardesiya’ theme and it works well.

Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran’s cinematography is impressive. He has made the beautiful locales of Kerala appear even prettier. Etisha Jain and Priyanka Ghosh Riya’s art direction is top-notch and realistic. Neha Gurbuxani’s costumes suit the characters well.

Param Sundari Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, PARAM SUNDARI makes for a pleasant Bollywood rom-com. The story may follow a familiar template, yet the treatment ensures a breezy, light-hearted watch that connects well with the youth through its mix of emotions, romance, music, and drama. At the box office, the film is likely to open decently and has the potential for a healthy theatrical run.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur's daughter Kaveri Kapur, has reportedly been approached for what is being described as one of the most psychologically intense reality shows in recent Indian television. The high-stakes concept is said to revolve around shifting power dynamics, where participants’ social standing and influence swing dramatically based on their decisions, strategies, and alliances — creating an atmosphere both thrilling for viewers and emotionally taxing for contestants.

For Kaveri, who has been steadily carving her own space in the entertainment industry, this project could emerge as a defining platform — one that allows her to showcase not just her talent, but also her personality, grit, and resilience to a wider audience. While attempts to reach Kaveri or her representatives proved unsuccessful, buzz around the show suggests it is not for the faint-hearted. Whether she decides to step into this intense reality format or not remains a question that has everyone watching closely.

Kaveri, already celebrated for her poetry, songwriting, music, and her Bollywood debut Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, would be stepping into uncharted territory with this reality TV venture — a move that could make waves in a space far removed from her artistic roots. While only time will reveal if she gives her nod, the buzz around her possible participation has already stirred significant curiosity. With Masoom 2 also in her lineup, audiences are keen to see what’s next for the multi-talented GenZ star.

Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt has issued a strong response after a video of her and Ranbir Kapoor’s under-construction bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai, went viral—without their prior consent.

In an Instagram statement, she underscored, “I understand that in a city like Mumbai, space is limited - sometimes the view from your window is another person’s home. But that does not give anyone the right to film private residences and push those videos online. A video from our home – still under construction – has been recorded and circulated by multiple publications, without our knowledge or consent.”

Alia condemned the breach, stating, “This is a clear invasion of privacy and a serious security issue. Filming or photographing someone’s personal space without permission is not ‘content’ - it’s a violation. It should never be normalized.”

She addressed netizens directly, urging them to consider a simple question. “Think about it: would you tolerate videos of the inside of your home being shared publicly, without you knowing? None of us would.” Then she added, “So here’s a humble but firm request - if you come across such content online, please don’t forward it or share it further.”

Alia also appealed to media outlets that have already published or circulated the footage and stated, “And to our friends in the media who have carried these images and videos: I urge you to take them down immediately. Thank you.”

Celina Jaitley on 20 years of No Entry, “I was deeply saddened to know that the original cast will not be a part of the sequel” https://ift.tt/HLXY0jQ

Anees Bazmee’s comic caper No Entry completed 20 years yesterday. The film had an ensemble cast of Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu, Celina Jaitly, Lara Dutta and Esha Deol. On its landmark anniversary, Celina looked back at the experience of shooting the movie.

How do you look back on the experience?

20 years ago, No Entry walked into people’s hearts and never left. This film was more than just a blockbuster comedy, it became a part of our lives, our laughter, our memories. Grateful to have been a part of this journey with such an incredible team and blessed to still receive so much love for it even after two decades. It is hard to believe that two decades have gone by since this film first lit up cinema halls and still continues to bring smiles across generations. No Entry will always remain special, not just for its incredible success but for the journey it gave me.

What was your camaraderie like with the rest of the cast?

With the men, it was a great professional camaraderie limited only to the set. But with the women we had a blast. Bipasha Basu and I went back to our Kolkata days. She was my senior as a model and we caught up on old times. Lara Dutta and Esha Deol too, and that bond of sisterhood has carried on till today. We saw each other through babies, marriage even losing near and dear ones. That is something I will always cherish deeply.

What was Anees Bazmee like as a director?

If I had to single out one person who made this journey truly memorable, it would be our director Anees Bazmee. He is a master of comedy and a master writer, and working under his direction was nothing short of a masterclass in timing, improvisation, and energy. His vision and brilliance are what made No Entry the timeless laughter riot it still is. There are two others I must single out.

Jee boliye?

A very special mention of Anil Kapoor. Working with him was inspiring in every sense. His professionalism, energy, and sheer brilliance elevated every frame he was in. Watching him at work was a lesson in itself. And also to the incredible Boman Irani. I was in complete awe of him, not only as an actor but also as a personality. His presence left a lasting impression on me.

The sequel is on the anvil. But you are not in it

I was deeply saddened to know that the original cast will not be a part of No Entry Part 2. I truly feel that the original cast, shown in the parallel timeline of the story so many years down the line, would have made a phenomenal impact on how the film is received. It would have been amazing to see how Sanjana and Sunny’s story evolved twenty years later, with hilarious comedy woven seamlessly with Anees Bazmee’s magical comic sense, writing, and direction. Lara and Anilji’s characters, which were also loved immensely, Bipasha’s unforgettable character, Esha’s charm, and of course Salman being Salman, the audience would absolutely have loved seeing the progress of these characters through another stage of life.

Shreyas Talpade on 20 years of Iqbal, “A lot of parents have said that they have shown the film to their kids and they’ve loved it” https://ift.tt/8Kezlhw

Shreyas Talpade starrer highly acclaimed debut Iqbal completes 20 years today. The film, which also starred Naseeruddin Shah and Shweta Basu Prasad and was directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, is still remembered for its heartwarming moments. On the movie’s landmark anniversary, Shreyas looked back at the film in an interview with us.

Shreyas, 20 years of your best known film

Twenty years is a long, long time, but sometimes you wonder where did all this time go, how fast it went. And it sounds clichéd, but it feels like yesterday when I started auditioning and practicing and then shooting for Iqbal, immediately a day after getting married. So, so many fond memories.

People still talk about Iqbal

The fact that Iqbal is fresh, even today… Just to give you an example, yesterday I had gone to pick up my daughter from school and one of the girls who's probably as old as my daughter - seven, eight years old - she came running up to me and she said, ‘Uncle, I saw your film Iqbal 10 times’. And that for me was quite unbelievable. And I asked her, really? And her mother said, ‘Yes, she loves it so much’. The film remains fresh as ever, even after 20 years with the new generation. And there've been a lot of parents who've come up to me and said that, you know, we've shown your film to our kids and they've loved it. And they keep doing that.

Some five years ago, a man came up to me and, ‘When your film released, I was in school. I saw the film. I loved it. And you had come for the show. And I remember meeting you and telling you, you know what, I want to be a doctor. Today I am a doctor.’ So I think these kinds of things that have happened with me, these experiences are completely surreal. They’re quite unbelievable. And I think they just enrich your life so much. You know, these are fond memories, which will always, always stay with me.

How did you bag this plum part so early in your career?

This happened thanks to my friend, Yatin Karyekar, who played my father in the film. He was the one who, you know, suggested me to go and audition for the film as we used to play cricket and do theatre together. And that is what Nagesh was looking for, an actor who can bowl or a bowler who can act. So, and of course, it was technically not too early in my career. I was already 30 by that time. But yeah, I had to play someone who was 18. And it is all thanks to Nagesh and his associate Elahe Heptullah for changing that entire look of mine. To be very honest, I cannot thank Nagesh, Elahe, Rahul Puri and Subhash Ghai sir enough for this opportunity, which completely changed my life.

What was it like working with the stellar cast?

Working with Naseer sir, Girish Karnad sir, Shweta Prasad, Yatin, Prateeksha Lonkar was absolutely fabulous. And all of them, you know, have added so much value to my life, to my performances. I cannot even, you know, begin to tell you because it was an amazing experience (of) working with all of them. Girish sir was so warm and supportive. And so was Naseer sir, you know. Naseer sir is known for his temperament. But with me, I think he helped me so much. I remember him, you know, taking me out for films or dinners. And we were having breakfast together, playing Scrabble, watching films. So, I think it was a wonderful experience working on Iqbal and something, which I can never forget.

Any special memories of the experience?

Right from the audition till the release, everything, I remember every little detail about Iqbal. And it will always remain that special film for me my entire life. So, yes, thank you so much once again to all of you who were so generous enough with their reviews that the film became a blockbuster of sorts, a cult of sorts, and is relevant and fresh even after 20 years. So, congratulations to all of us.

And to answer your last question, what makes it remain fresh even after so many years? I think it's the underdog story, which all of us love and all of us relate with. You know, it's the triumph of the underdog, someone who we feel may not be able to do anything in his life, then he achieves something which he has dreamt for all along. I think that is something that all of us inherently have, want to achieve and believe in and aspire for. So, it's that story of aspiration and inspiration, both, which has been the major factor for its longevity.

26 years of Baadshah EXCLUSIVE: “Shah Rukh Khan did a somersault over Amrish Puri without telling him,” recalls action director Moses Fernandes; also reveals how the film unintentionally ended Puneet Issar’s TV show Hindustani https://ift.tt/hAW5P4x

Abbas-Mustan’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer Baadshah completes 26 years today. The action-comedy continues to entertain even after over a quarter century. The movie was known for some memorable stunts performed by Khan. It was the film’s action director Moses Fernandes who made them look more exciting. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, he went down memory lane and recalled some interesting and funny moments from the shoot of Baadshah.

Shah Rukh Khan’s daring slide stunt from 80 meters high

The ending portions of Baadshah saw SRK carry out a scene where he is hanged at 80 meters, from where he jumps on a large cloth and slides down. “It was a very risky shot,” recalled Fernandes. “If the cloth turned, anything could have happened. I did a few rehearsals. We wanted to make sure that the cloth shouldn’t come off. That was the biggest challenge. But it all happened well.”

Fernandes said that Khan was sure that nothing untoward would happen as he had worked with the actor before in Deewana and Josh. Yet he had a few questions. “He asked me, ‘Masterji, yeh parda ghoomega?’ I assured him, ‘Nahin ghoomega’. He asked if I am sure. I said yes I am sure. I made my boys do that stunt a few times. So, Shah Rukh bhai felt this is safe. But as I am a fight master, I need to make sure that the actor shouldn’t get hurt in any way.”

Amrish Puri was kept in the dark about a stunt scene involving him

There was a scene in the film where SRK snatches the gun from Amrish Puri’s hand and does a somersault over him. Speaking about the scene, Fernandes said, “Before the shot, Amrish Puri asked me, ‘Masterji, how will he (SRK) jump? My hand might break’. But Shah Rukh bhai told me, ‘Masterji, don’t tell him anything and just take the shot (laughs). Otherwise, the shot won’t happen. Don’t tell Amrish Puri ji what I am going to do.’ So, Amrish Puri didn’t know what Shah Rukh was going to do. He just did the somersault and we took the shot. It turned out to be very well. It was a bit risky.”

One stunt featuring SRK involved more than 30 retakes

Fernandes also recalled a scene where Sharat Saxena and Khan come face-to-face and the latter had to do a stunt. It took over 30 retakes. “Shah Rukh bhai had to jump and take out the gun attached on his leg while being in the air,” recalled Fernandes. “We hadn’t put cables. Shah Rukh bhai said that he will do it himself. That shot must have had at least 32 retakes. I suggested we can shoot it in a different way. But Shah Rukh bhai said that he will do it himself. That guy is so hardworking that I can’t tell you. He did it, although it took 2-3 hours. He was like, ‘Main kar ke rahoonga’.”

SRK almost climbed a building horizontally

Another famous scene from the film is the one where SRK, with the use of special shoes whose soles stick to anything, climbs a building horizontally. “Shah Rukh bhai said he would like to do it himself. He said, ‘Mujhe directly building pe chadhao’. I had all the system with me. I was ready to do it. But then the directors said let it be, we will do it with CGI. But at that time the CGI wasn’t so advanced. We could make out that it’s not real,” said Fernandes.

The action director is all praise for SRK’s energy level. “I haven’t seen a hero like him,” he said. “He has the same level of energy at night, like he has in the morning. During a shot where an actor is speaking to Shah Rukh (who is standing on the opposite side), we used to make someone else stand in place of him. But Shah Rukh used to insist that he will only do. He said the other person will give a better reaction if he is standing in front of him. Some other actor might say, let the assistant give that shot.”

Shoot of Baadshah unintentionally ended the run of Puneet Issar’s TV show Hindustani

At one point of time, Moses Fernandes was doing Puneet Issar’s television show Hindustani. He was reluctant to join initially. “I told Puneet Issar that I don’t want to be a fight master in a TV serial, else I will be stuck there only. But I did that show for four and a half years; 20-25 days a month. But then I realized I came here to do something but I am doing something else altogether,” said Fernandes.

After working on the show for a long time, he got a call for Baadshah from Venus Films. “I told Ratan Jain (of Venus) that I am currently involved in a TV serial,” said Fernandes. “He suggested that I speak to them. I told Puneet Issar that I have got a call from Venus. He straightaway asked, ‘For Baadshah?’. He already knew (laughs). I said yes but my dates are with him. But he said, ‘Maa ki aankh! Tu kar le’. He told me that I should do it as this is what I always wanted to do.”

He continued, “I asked Puneet how will he continue the serial without me. He said he will see. But he stopped the serial right then. I asked him why he did that. He said they are unable to do various kinds of fights like martial arts, taekwondo, samurai fights, etc, without me.”

Bond with Abbas-Mustan

Apart from Baadshah, Fernandes has worked with Abbas-Mustan in quite a few films like Soldier, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Humraaz, etc. When asked about his relation with the director duo, he said, “They love me lot. They used to involve me in various matters, be it story or songs. Many a times they used to take my opinion on a song. I used to give my opinion as an audience. We have family relations. I am there in all their parties. They also attended by son’s wedding.”

Has Salman Khan lowered his fee for Bigg Boss? https://ift.tt/zgFLnhj

Has Salman Khan brought down his exorbitant fee? At least for Bigg Boss, the show he has been hosting for the last fifteen years?

There are reports that the Khan has lowered his price from Rs 250 crores to Rs. 150 crores.

However, when this writer touched base with a source very close to the development, the truth appeared to be somewhat different. “Where do they get these figures from? The price cut which the Bigg Boss producers Endemol requested for reasons of falling ratings was for around Rs 50 crores. Salman obliged them. Where is the question of a Rs 100 crore cut being forced on him (Salman) when, in fact, he is most reluctant to host Bigg Boss anymore? For some years now, Salman has been asking to be relieved from his hosting duties on Bigg Boss. Unfortunately, Bigg Boss without Salman is as inconceivable as KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) without Mr (Amitabh) Bachchan,” said the source.

But here is the thing: Salman Khan made it clear that he won’t host Bigg Boss from the next season onwards. Karan Johar is likely to take over.

Param Sundari producer Dinesh Vijan on casting Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, “Sid hasn’t done a rom-com in 6 years, Janhvi has never played a character like this” https://ift.tt/MADIK7y

Producer Dinesh Vijan opened up about the thought behind Param Sundari, calling it a story rooted in culture yet strikingly relevant to the youth of today.

“Other than the fact that it’s cross-cultural, Param Sundari deals with a very relevant theme affecting young people right now,” Vijan shared. “Param comes from a place deeply influenced by technology, he’s somebody who really believes in apps.”

He further adds, “While our girl - Sundari belongs to a world where tech hasn’t made much of an impact. There are still pockets in India where life is very simple. This dynamic is what excited me to make the film.”

At the heart of Param Sundari lies a very current dilemma - how today’s youth, often over-reliant on apps for everything from ordering food to finding love, may overlook the beauty of more organic, simpler connections. Through Param and Sundari’s contrasting worlds, the film highlights that one must trust their own instincts over everything else.

Vijan also spoke about the casting of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in this romantic comedy. “Sid is such a good-looking boy, but he hasn’t done a rom-com in six years. And Janhvi, while she’s very much like Sundari in spirit, has never played a character like this. It’s very interesting to see these two come together.”

He went on to explain how the film reflects Maddock Films’ larger vision of telling cross-cultural stories that resonate with contemporary audiences.

EXCLUSIVE: Maharaj director Siddharth P Malhotra confesses, "I DIDN'T like Loveyapa…Junaid Khan is like my kid; protective about him…confident about his next film"; recalls hilarious incident: "YRF guards refused him entry as he came in an auto" https://ift.tt/ieFHrUw

In June 2025, talented director Siddharth P Malhotra spoke exclusively with Bollywood Hungama on the first anniversary of the controversial and highly acclaimed 2024 film Maharaj. The film marked the debut of Junaid Khan. During the same interaction, the filmmaker spoke about his bond with the young actor and a lot more.

When asked if he’s in touch with Junaid Khan and if he got a chance to watch his second film, Loveyapa (2025), co-starring Khushi Kapoor, Siddharth P Malhotra said, “I saw Loveyapa and I didn’t like the film. I had issues with it.”

He continued, “And yes, I am in touch with Junaid. We speak every 4-5 days. I launched him. He’s like my own kid and I am protective about him. And I told him that I didn’t like Loveyapa for various reasons, which I don’t want to speak about. But the film didn’t work for me.”

Siddharth P Malhotra further said, “I am sure that people will appreciate his next film. I have seen it and I am confident about it.” Junaid Khan’s next is titled Ek Din and co-stars popular South actress Sai Pallavi. It is scheduled to release on November 7, 2025.

Siddharth P Malhotra then shared a hilarious episode that took place during the industry screening of Maharaj at Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studios, “The security guard didn’t recognize Junaid as he had come in an auto rickshaw. He called me and said, ‘They are not taking me inside’. I said, ‘Bolunko ki tu hero hai’! He explained that since he was in the auto, they were not convinced. We had to come down to take him inside (laughs)!”

Siddharth shared more on this screening, “It was attended by a lot of people of the industry like Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi etc. We were excited. At 11 pm, we were informed that the film was not coming the next day (due to legal issues). Hence, after the screening, we had to tell everyone, ‘Even if you guys have liked the film, you cannot write anything about it’. You make films for appreciation and validation. At that screening, I got the validation, that too from the greats, but you have to tell them, ‘Please don’t tell the world about it’! The trial then ran for 5 more days. It was heartbreaking.”

Posting the candid clip, the Pyaar Ka Punchnama actor wrote, “So I’ve been wanting to talk about this since a while. It’s important that we do, because far too much emphasis is being put on new mothers ‘Bouncing Back’”

Seygall spoke about her deep connection with fitness before pregnancy, describing it as an integral part of her identity. “Before pregnancy, I was so connected to my body, fit, active, and proud of the way I looked and felt. Fitness was not just something I did, it was part of who I was,” she shared.

However, she admitted that postpartum life brought significant changes. “The toned thighs I once had now carry cellulite, my abs softened into a little mommy pooch, and my hips feel different, almost as if they’ve permanently widened to carry the weight of motherhood,” she revealed in the post.

Instead of resisting these changes, Seygall expressed gratitude and acceptance. “And yet, instead of resisting these changes, I’ve learned to embrace and love my body even more, with deep gratitude for everything it has carried me through, especially giving birth. Maybe I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to my old body, and that’s okay, because this one tells a far more powerful story,” she wrote.

Concluding with a message of solidarity, she encouraged other mothers: “To every new mom reading this, you’re not alone.”

Lalit Pandit on Kalyanji’s 25th death anniversary, “Kalyanji-Anandji worked successfully at a time when there were many brilliant composers existing”; also reveals that the duo did not compose ‘Khaike Pan Banaras Wala’ from Don https://ift.tt/i0dAhIM

Kalyanji and Anandji are considered a legendary duo when it comes to Hindi film music. On the 25th death anniversary of Kalyanji, whose full name was Kalyanji Virji Shah, Lalit Pandit got talking about him and Anandji’s remarkable work.

Where would you place Kalyanji-Anandji in Hindi film music? Kalyanji and Anandji were extremely talented brothers, who worked together successfully for more than three decades in the Indian film industry. They had multiple qualities along with being brilliant composers and that is the reason they worked and survived so long in the industry.

What made the duo so durable? Their greatest achievement I feel is how they did their transition in music from one generation to the other. Not many composers from their generation did that successfully, except R D burman. Right from the music of Saraswatichandra to Don and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and many more, they were able to adapt and change their music to the next decade and that was indeed amazing.

How did they create their never-ending repertoire of hit songs? Both Kalyanji and Anand ji had an everyday jamming music room where recordings would be planned and their favourite lyricists like Indivar, Anjaan and Gulshan Bawra would be there every day from morning to night. They were together a very formidable team which was indeed one of the reasons why they worked successfully for so long. But there was someone else.

The two brothers had a third lesser known younger brother Babla. An extremely talented rhythm composer and a rhythm player himself. He assisted his elder brothers Kalyanji and Anandji and did some brilliant arrangements in their songs. It is a known fact that Babla composed the super hit song of Don, ‘Khaike paan Banaraswala’, which was written by Anjaan Sahab and so brilliantly sung by Kishore Kumar.

The most remarkable aspect of K-A’s career was it longevity I agree. Kalyanji-Anandji started their musical journey from the onset of the 1960s and went on to work till the 90s. One of the most amazing part and a quality they possessed was they were always signed repeatedly by their producers and directors to do music. Producers like Manoj Kumar, Feroz Khan, Prakash Mehra and many more loved working with Kalyanji-Anandji.

Why? This was perhaps not only because of their beautiful music but also because of the wonderful nature of K-A. Both were extremely humorous and people enjoyed their music sessions which would generally go on all day. They were a full package. Masti and music and extreme knowledge of music, of course. These combinations of qualities made them survive successfully in the music industry for so long.

They were also very adaptive That’s right. Their style also changed with times. What with the most modern songs of its time – ‘Aap jaisa koi’ and ‘Laila main Laila’ for Qurbani … Would you believe that these were the same composers who composed ‘Chandan sa badan’ and ‘Main to ek khwaab hoon’! It’s hard to believe this but this is what KA were.

Which are your favourite K-A soundtracks? Personally, I have loved their entire sureela music of many films. Their combination with Anand Bakshi and Mukeshji was unbelievable. Songs of Himalay Ki God Mein, Saraswatichandra, Blackmail, Don, and hundreds more. It was Kalyanji-Anandji who gave Anand Bakshi the very first chance to write for their film Jab Jab Phool Khile. The songs were extremely memorable and so well-written by Bakshi Saab – ‘Ek tha gul aur ek thi bul bul’, ‘Yahan main ajnabi hoon’ are so beautifully written.

They indeed have given a treasure of music to their audience and this treasure will be cherished for ever. There was a particular song in which Shashi Kapoor was challenged by KA to shoot the entire song with his hand behind his back. Shashi Kapoor had done this song accepting the challenge.

Tell me about your personal connection with the duo? My sister Sulakshana and my father used to regularly visit Kalyanji and Anandji in their music room in the late 60s and 70s. Sulakshana Didi was a trained singer and both Kalyanji and Anandji loved her singing. In later years when Sulakshana Didi became a very successful heroine, she would sing many songs of Kalyanji and Anand ji. I remember their recordings of her song from a film called Sankoch with Jeetendraji and Sulakshanaji sang a beautiful song composed by Anandji Bandhi – ‘Re kahe preet’. The song was a huge hit at the time.

Then in her very first film Uljhan with Sanjeev Kumar, she sang her songs in the film for Kalyanji Anandji. The film had amazing music by the brothers. She went on to sing many songs and I had the wonderful opportunity as a child to witness these wonderful recordings and see they great composers at their work. Later in their career, Kalyanji’s son Viju Shah joined the team and he added a lot in changing the sound of the composers. Viju later went on to become an independent composer, but always even back then he was the backbone of the aging duo. In films like Himalay Ki God Mein we notice in the credits the names of Laxmikant Pyarelal ji as assistants in arranging the music for K-A.

They promoted a lot of new talent They had the knack of looking for young talent and recognising genuine talent. It was K-A, who gave the first chance to Alka Yagnik and Sadhana Sargam and many others. Their home and music room always welcomed struggling singers and writers. A quality not many composers had. Their music will live on and so will their name. They worked successfully at a time when there were many brilliant composers existing and who were doing amazing work, like Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, SD and RD Burman. All were at their best! And so were Kalyanji Anandji.

Mouni Roy fires back at troll suggesting she ‘choose a better surgeon’: “Do something worthwhile with your life” https://ift.tt/O57N0zk

Bollywood actress Mouni Roy recently confronted a troll who targeted her with a harsh comment, “Truth is bitter! You gotta gulp that down your throat, no matter who you are! Your surgeries have put you in a very poor spot. Since you are a public figure, you gotta accept what comes with it! The good and mostly the bad! You should have chosen a better surgeon!” This jab referenced persistent rumours that Mouni had undergone corrective cosmetic surgery—a claim she has repeatedly denied in interviews.

Instead of letting the comment slide, Mouni responded firmly, writing back: “Do something worthwhile with your life. Be on socials to give away love and speak about your work. Not worth it otherwise. If you know, you know.” Her measured yet powerful reply resonated with many on social media.

The troll’s remark was swiftly removed by the user, but not before screenshots circulated across various platforms. Mouni’s followers rallied behind her, offering support in droves.

This isn’t the first time Mouni has addressed body-shaming and plastic surgery speculations. In an earlier exchange, when confronted with questions about cosmetic procedures, she dismissed the negativity, “Kuch nahin. Dekhti hee nahi. Let everyone do their job… I do not pay attention to such remarks. If you hide behind a screen to troll others and if you find happiness in that so be it.”

Her recent response follows a pattern of rejecting baseless scrutiny and focusing instead on her work—from her impactful presence in television to her recent appearances in films and web shows.

In a broader conversation about celebrity bashing, Mouni, alongside Palak Tiwari, acknowledged the toxic dynamics of social media culture, remarking that “celebrity bashing sells” and lamenting the intense, often relentless negativity public figures endure online.

In the clip, Sonnalli can be seen starting her day with a glass of jeera water, known for its digestion-boosting properties, before moving on to wholesome meals and occasional sweet treats. Kriti Sanon drops truth bomb on her struggles: "No free lunches in Bollywood” https://ift.tt/T7eXOpV

Bollywood powerhouse Kriti Sanon, who recently made her foray into production with Do Patti in 2024, delivered a candid and deeply motivational address at CNN-News18’s SheShakti 2025, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in a notoriously exclusive industry.

“You need to really be passionate about it and there is no shortcut. Nothing comes easy, there are no free lunches,” Sanon asserted, striking a chord with countless aspiring actors who face the uphill climb without legacy backing or industry connections. She elaborated bluntly: “You have to work hard towards it, and what is also very, very important is not to give up.” Her words resonated with a universal truth about showbiz: unless driven and resolute, success remains elusive.

For those who don’t come from a filmi background, the road can be especially steep. Kriti Sanon urged, “There will be times… when no one’s giving you anything on a platter. There will be so many people telling you why it’s too big a dream, why it can’t happen… or what is wrong with you… you’re too short, you’re too tall, you’re too thin…” She described the barrage of external negativity that many newcomers endure—questioning their looks, their talent, and their industry sense.

But Sanon’s message was clear: don’t let that derail you. “I feel people are going to tell you what’s wrong with you; no one’s really going to tell you that you can do it other than you.” She urged individuals to cultivate self-belief and resilience, especially when support is sparse.

Taking the long view, Kriti highlighted the value of patience in an industry obsessed with overnight success. “You really need to be very driven, passionate, and patient, because it will come when the time is right, but you have to keep working on yourself.” She reframed delays as opportunities for growth, encouraging hopefuls not to despair but to double down on self-improvement. “Maybe it’s taking so long because you need that time to work on yourself, to get better.”

Her optimism radiated as she added, “So it’ll happen when the time is right, I promise you that, but you have to be at it.”

Kriti Sanon’s journey has mirrored her message. The actress-turned-producer debuted behind the camera with Do Patti and has remained unstoppable. She’s currently shooting for Tere Ishk Mein, where she stars opposite Dhanush under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Aanand L. Rai. Adding to the excitement, Sanon recently opened up kicking off work for Cocktail 2, directed by Homi Adajania—project details, however, remain tightly under wraps.

As Sanon continues to break moulds in front of and behind the camera, her speech at SheShakti 2025 stands as a stirring reminder that while Bollywood seldom serves success on a silver platter, it rewards those who refuse to give up.

27 Years of Dil Se EXCLUSIVE: Mita Vasisht reveals that Shah Rukh Khan saved her life: “I was about to fall in deep gorge, but he grabbed me…he’s an ANGEL in disguise”; also reveals she injured him during a SENSUOUS fight scene: “He told me, “I have broken every bone in my body; this is nothing!” https://ift.tt/YeC0NoA

In May 2024, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with Mita Vashisht about her film The Shameless' selection at the Cannes Film Festival. In the same interview, she also spoke about her experience of working on Dil Se (1998), which incidentally completed 27 years on August 21.

Dil Se starred Shah Rukh Khan, who was also seen in her 1991 mini–TV series, Ahmaq. Incidentally, both are born on November 2. On this, Mita Vashisht said, “Yes, we share our birthday, and we also shared a lot of good times off set and also on screen. He’s also a wonderful human being and very caring for his co-actors. At that time of Ahmaq, he was already being talked about; during Dil Se, he had become a big star. In this film, there was a fight sequence between Shah Rukh and me, which was chopped off. He tracks me down while rehearsing for the attack on Republic Day parade, as he wants to track down Manisha Koirala’s character. I give him a slip, but he manages to catch hold of me. This is when we have a massive fight and finally, I hit him on the head with a stone.”

Mita Vashisht continued, “It was a lovely fight sequence. Director Mani Ratnam told me, ‘You should fight it like a tigress’! He wanted it to be sensuous; our bodies don’t leave each other during the fight sequence. Our legs were twined around each other's waist. This is when he realized that she was a trained killer. It was a six-minute continuous hand-held scene.”

Mita Vashisht spoke highly of the superstar, “Shah Rukh was very protective; he had done a lot of fight sequences. I hadn’t. He made sure that I did not bang my head anywhere. At one point, the stone slipped through my hand and hit him on the head. Hence, he got a slight cut; there was a little bleeding. The unit members were like ‘What have you done?’. Any other person would have made a big fuss. But he kept his cool. He told unit members, ‘No, it’s fine. Just get some ice. Mita, nothing to worry about. I have broken every bone in my body while doing fight sequences. This is nothing’!”

She then revealed, “Then there was a scene where he’s being taken blindfolded to the camp. Mani Ratnam wanted me to move backwards. I was wearing plastic-heeled shoes, with which you can’t feel the ground. And we were shooting in Darjeeling, where there was a lot of ice. I was also carrying a heavy AK-47. Shah Rukh was in front of me. Suddenly, I found myself falling into a deep gorge. I would have surely broken my neck. Thankfully, Shah Rukh grabbed me by the collar and yanked me back up. His reflexes were so strong. He just said, ‘Are you fine? Okay. Chalo, shot ready’. Utne mein woh moment nikal gaya. Later on, I thought, ‘Oh my god. What if he had not saved me? I could have got badly injured or killed’. Hence, he was truly an angel in disguise.”

EXCLUSIVE: Jackie Shroff reveals his ‘Green Manifesto’; "Har gali, har balcony mein chhota jungle ugana hai" https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/EXCLUSIVE-Jackie-Shroff-reveals-his-‘Green-Manifesto-Har-gali-har-balcony-mein-chhota-jungle-ugana-hai.jpg

Jackie Shroff has always been more than a movie star. With his trademark scarf, streetwise charm, and decades of screen presence, he embodies a blend of old-school cool and earthy authenticity. Yet beyond the lights of Bollywood, another signature has defined him just as deeply: his unwavering bond with plants. For years, he has walked into events cradling a sapling instead of luxury gifts, turning a simple gesture into a quiet philosophy of life.

Now, his philosophy is crystal clear: nature belongs in every corner of our urban lives. “Har gali, har chhat, har balcony mein bas ek chhota jungle ugana hai,” Shroff says passionately. To him, plants aren’t decoration — they’re companions, therapists, and teachers. “They keep you patient, grounded, and connected to your roots,” he insists.

Unlike most celebrity endorsements, Shroff’s green message feels personal. He isn’t “acting” when he’s around plants. “No acting stress, just me doing what I love — being around plants and sharing that joy,” he recalls of a recent campaign shoot.

With climate change looming large, Shroff believes behavioural change starts small. “One little plant can bring you peace, health, and a home that looks and feels alive,” he says. For Jackie Shroff, planting a tree isn’t a favour to the world — it’s a favour to yourself, your family, and your planet.

Murugadoss’ stance on Salman Khan’s indiscipline opens a ‘Pandora’s Box’ on star tantrums https://ift.tt/908Rizc

By going on record about Salman Khan’s unruly conduct on the sets of Sikandar — including turning up hours late and keeping child actors awake till 2 am — director A.R. Murugadoss has once again shed light on a long-standing malaise in Bollywood: the lack of discipline and dedication among some of its biggest superstars.

A director who has previously worked with Salman corroborates Murugadoss’s claims. “Murugadoss is absolutely right. Salman Khan never arrives on set before 2–3 pm for the morning shift. He then has his lunch, takes a nap, and shooting doesn’t begin before 5 pm. Most filmmakers find it impossible to work with him. But producers like Sajid Nadiadwala allow Salman to do what he likes. He has never been given a reason to change his ways.”

This isn’t the first time Salman’s indiscipline has cost a project. In 2019, Sanjay Leela Bhansali shelved the Salman-starrer Inshallah after repeated interference and delays from the actor. Bhansali, who had earlier collaborated with Salman on two of his finest works — Khamoshi and Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam — took the instant decision to call off the film and vowed never to work with him again.

Although Salman and Bhansali remain close friends, the filmmaker has drawn a professional line. In 2022, when Salman pitched a film that would unite him and Shah Rukh Khan under Bhansali’s direction, the director refused outright. His stance was blunt: “Shah Rukh, yes. Salman, never!”

But Salman is hardly the first superstar to gain notoriety for tardiness and indiscipline. Before him, Rajesh Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar, and Shatrughan Sinha were repeat offenders.

Sharmila Tagore, who worked extensively with all three, recalls, “If I was shooting with Kaka (Rajesh Khanna), Haribhai (Sanjeev Kumar), or Shatru (Shatrughan Sinha), I made sure I reached for the morning shift only after lunch, or sometimes much later. It was annoying at first to wait for hours, but after working with them repeatedly, I got used to their eccentric timings.”

Shatrughan Sinha, however, defends himself, “I had an acute low blood pressure problem for which I had to do yoga every morning. Combined with late nights, that made me arrive late. But once I came on set, I never left until my work was done. Haven’t my heroines confirmed this? The great Dilip Kumar saab once gave me the lesson of a lifetime during the shooting of Kranti. I came at my usual SST (Shatru Standard Time), and as I entered, I saw him waving from his car as he left.”

In contrast, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Aamir Khan are famously punctual. But for many others, late arrivals have been normalized.

Hema Malini, the only female star of her era who commanded as much clout as her male co-stars, refused to tolerate such behaviour, “With me, the notorious latecomers came on time. When one actor arrived three hours late on the first day of shooting, I told him I was going home. I warned that if he wasn’t punctual the next day, I would walk out of the film. He was on time the very next day,” she recalls.

Hema believes co-actors are partly to blame for superstar tantrums. “If the director and co-stars make it clear that such delays are unacceptable, stars would stop. It’s the industry’s silence that enables them.”

Murugadoss’s candid remarks may have stirred controversy, but they also highlight a long-suppressed truth about Bollywood’s star culture: punctuality and professionalism are optional for some, and non-negotiable for others.

EXCLUSIVE: Kritika Kamra on the depiction of Indo-Pak conflict in Saare Jahan Se Accha, “You have to be responsible and humanize characters from both the sides” https://ift.tt/sdrV2wh

Kritika Kamra was recently seen in an important role in Netflix’s espionage drama Saare Jahan Se Accha, which starred Pratik Gandhi in the lead. The show saw her play an interesting character of a modern Pakistani journalist named Fatima Khan from the 70s’ era. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kritika spoke in detail about her character, her career so far and why it is important in an Indo-Pak story to show both the sides in a sensible manner.

What excited you about Saare Jahan Se Accha and your character when it was offered to you?

I was really impressed by the ambition of the show. From the beginning, it was very evident that this would be done on a large scale where in it is a part of history and the story is in India and Pakistan. This was a couple of years ago. So, at that time, there weren’t many espionage dramas. And today when it’s come out and there are more spy dramas around, it still continues to be grounded in reality.

Although it’s a fictional story, the intention was to keep it as realistic as possible and not get carried away and have that larger-than-life thing because that’s not what ground reality is. That’s not how these agencies work. Intel is passed on and many people are deployed to do various things. This is what used to happen in the past before all this technology and stuff (came in). Also, I am personally very interested in history and politics. So, this is a subject I like as an audience also.

I shot for more than what is in the show currently. A lot of it didn’t make the final cut. But back then when I did, I thought it’s very interesting. When you think about Pakistani journalists, you don’t expect somebody like Fatima. It was interesting to see the character so ahead of her times. Also, the way she dresses and talks and what she is doing is at a great personal and professional risk. We generally don’t see this. In fact, generally we don’t show Pakistanis like this. We also don’t show female characters like this.

Principally, it is important for me for a balanced depiction of both the sides. It’s not villainized for the heck of it. It is easy to do that in a story like this. As Indians, we feel very passionately about our country. But when you are telling a story like this, you have to be responsible and think and humanize the characters on both the sides. Ultimately, everyone loves their country and are working for it. It’s not like one side is evil and other is good. Personalities might be different. As an analogy, Pratik’s character Vishnu has so much of restraint because that has been India’s philosophy always. We have never been aggressors. We are peacemakers. You can see how Sunny’s (Sunny Hinduja) character Murtaza is very volatile. And that’s sort of has been the foreign policy of the neighbouring nation.

But the show isn’t like all Pakistanis are bad and all Indians will be like particular people. It has been shown in a very logical and realistic way. And that for me, that was the most important. It was really the number one thing to say yes to it. Otherwise, I would be very off something like this because it is very easy to get into a jingoistic sort of a zone.

You are playing a fearless Pakistani journalist from the yesteryears in the show. What was your preparation like for this character?

A lot of research was already done, to be honest. Gaurav Shukla and Sumit Purohit (creator and director), who were attached with this and had researched and developed the project for so many months, had a lot of ideas (for the character). Of course, it’s not based on a real person. But there were people and there are still people on either side of the border, who are doing what journalists are supposed to do. What kind of a person she is was already there. We discussed and also chalked out a backstory for her.

We thought that somebody like her would probably be someone who studied abroad and has come back because she loves her country. She is concerned about the common man of her country. That’s why she says that instead of bombs, we need to concentrate on economic stability, education and infrastructure. Interestingly, Sumit used to send me interviews of some people, which weren’t related to the show at all, but to just see how people used to talk in the 70s.

You have acted with Pratik Gandhi before in Mitron (2018). He is more popular today. How much change did you see in him?

He has not changed. Everything around him has changed. I have seen it because Mitron was before Scam 1992. I have seen his journey since then. Even then he was doing really well in Gujarati theatre and cinema. I remember when we were promoting the film in Gujarat, the craze and the right people felt for Pratik over there. He got a lot of love from that audience. And today, that love is from every state and corner of the country. It’s really nice to see because he is an actor of such a calibre that he deserves it. And at the same time, he is a wonderful, grounded and pleasant person. That doubles your joy.

As someone who has worked with him in different points in his career, I have to say that his work ethic is exactly the same. He is a really sharp actor. He is very prepared but you will never see his prep in the sense that it’s already internalized. Good things happen to good people. It restores your faith in the universe.

You have played a wide range of characters in TV shows, web shows and films. Has it always been a conscious decision to never repeat yourself?

Main try toh kar rahi hoon. I feel a character is more than its job. For example, I have played a journalist before in Bheed. She was also a righteous journalist. I signed Bheed after this show. So, it’s not that I don’t repeat the occupation of the character. In the character I feel there is something new to explore, that’s very important to me. That’s the only way I judge if I am doing anything different. Ultimately, my face and voice are going to be the same. I have to bring something that doesn’t remind you of something I have played before. So, I consciously try that. And it’s hard because once something becomes successful, you keep getting more of the same thing.

What all do you look into before saying yes for a project?

My process of choosing has been evolving. If you would have asked this 3-4 years before, I would have said that the script is everything. Off late in the past couple of years, I have had experiences where things have changed a lot while filming and then again at edit. I am not saying like unnees-bees ka difference. Things even change 180 degrees. I have realized that as an actor you are somebody else’s vision. And you don’t have any creative power or control over what is going to be eventually made or come out. So, it’s mostly instinctive. And now I want to work with people I can trust. It doesn’t mean that I need to know them personally. I just mean about their previous work, their work ethic and my meeting and it’s mostly instinctual.

How do you look at your journey so far?

I don’t know yaar. It’s very hard to be objective about it (laughs). I think it’s for other people to say how it’s been. I just know that I have a long way ahead. I always knew that I am in this for the long haul. I have never taken any shortcuts and I have never got anything easy also, which is fine because I want to do this all my life. Acting is a discipline where you can really give all your life and get something to learn. Because I know I want to do it forever, I am in no hurry. I am okay to wait for the right things to come my way. I just want to be able to grow. Maybe take a few steps ahead from where I was in my previous project.

Ramesh Sippy on 50 years of Sholay, "Many people felt Amitabh Bachchan should not have died, we had a meeting to discuss what to do" https://ift.tt/ZjBh8Cg

Veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy’s all-time classic Sholay completed 50 years recently on August 15. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan, the movie is still remembered fondly today. In an interview with us, Sippy looked back at the film and what it means to him.

I am sure you are sick and tired of talking about Sholay over and over again I am sure you will find a way to take our conversations through alleys that I haven’t been through before. Besides talking about a film which made history on so many levels can never be tiresome.

So, Rameshji, let's start. So, you know, it's been 50 years and of course, we are all celebrating. But somewhere do you think that Sholay became such a signature film for you that you can’t shake off?

No regret at all. Sholay was an outstanding hit. It was bound to take the lead. And everything is overshadowed.

I am very fond of your Shakti. I have told you this many times. I think Shakti is a better film than Sholay. Do you feel that Shakti is as powerful? They are different. They belong to different… it is a dramatic film. Father and son conflict. This is an action-adventure and all thrown in together. So there is a much wider appeal. Quite the mass entertainer, which, I mean, no other film has been able to achieve that level of mass entertainment. It is an entertainer which is made with finesse. So, I have no regrets. Not that I did anything special in Sholay. I did not treat any film differently.

Ramesh ji, if I ask you to pick out the one component in Sholay, which played the biggest part in making it what it is today, a historic film, which component would you choose? If there was one component, then it wouldn't have been such a big hit. Everything worked. It was a combination of everything. It had music, friendship, love, drama, spectacle, it had it all. And all in the right ingredient, all in the right proportion. That is the key. I can't analyse its success. That is why it took me a long time to understand. I tried to do the complete opposite in Shaan. And it didn’t work.

There are kinds of revisionist interpretations to Sholay. They say that the relationship between Veeru and Jai has a tinge of homoeroticism about it. When you hear these interpretations, do you laugh or do you get exasperated?

Not at all. As a matter of fact, nobody has told me that. And nobody questioned it. Today they are talking about it because such things are open to discussion now. They can describe it any way they want. Of course, everyone has the right to come up with their own little theory.

About the casting, everyone wanted to play Gabbar. Amitji has told me he was very keen on Gabbar. Everyone knew that Gabbar would be the most popular character in the film. So why did you pick a newcomer? Danny, of course, was your first choice. Am I correct?

Correct. And he was signed for Sholay. But he got stuck with Feroz Khan’s Dharmatma in Afghanistan. And he said, it would be difficult to get him. So we had to move on to Amjad Khan, another formidable actor. We auditioned him. Not a full-fledged audition. We made him do a scene or two from the film. Not even a scene or two. Just the get-up. And the fact that he was the great Jayant's son, Hindi, Urdu, whatever, was fine. There was no... linguistic problem. None at all. And I called him from the beginning of the shooting, although his work started quite late.

So Amjad had no problem getting Gabbar right? I had a bit of a problem getting him to coordinate between his action on his palm, the rubbing of the khaini (tobacco) and the dialogues. While he was talking, he would stop that action. When he was doing the action, he would not be talking. Such a minor thing if you think about it, but a problem nonetheless. And then I said, you have to rehearse till you get it right. You have to keep doing it and also talking. So that was the only problem with getting Gabbar right. Okay. Okay, okay. Once he had that right, then we started work. Okay. So that out of the way, everything smooth sailing.

What a Gabbar he made. Spectacular. And, you know, he remained Gabbar. If you had to do Sholay now, what would you change? Nothing. After you've seen it. Yes. And after the world has embraced it, why would one make any change?

Whatever I was doing, I tried to do it to the best of my ability. In Sholay, I wanted to do what they called a Westerns in those days… If I could do a Western like Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, Mckenna’s Gold, and The Magnificent Seven. So, all those kind of films, this one was from that genre. When I did this, the Bond-like thing in Shaan didn’t work.

I didn’t much like R D Burman’s songs in Sholay No? ‘Mehbooba’ was a big hit, ‘Yeh dosti’. That has become THE Dosti song today. And ‘Holi ke din’ is played every Holi alongside ‘Rang barse’ from Silsila. So, every song had its own flavour.

Sholay is considered the one single most influential and impactful film of Indian cinema. That reputation of the film, well-earned, does it make you feel big? Does it make you feel that you have achieved something, a landmark? So, does that give you a sense of triumph, a sense of achievement? Do you look in the mirror, sir, and say, I am the man who made Sholay?

Never. That's not me. Otherwise, why would I think like that when I know that when I'm making something, I'm doing my best and still it won’t be as celebrated as Sholay. It doesn't always turn out to be something that ends up on the pedestal. Sholay’s got that pedestal but it was criticized when it was released.

It didn’t do well in the first week at all? No. Again, that’s a fallacy. There was no sign it was not accepted. That was the reading of trade papers. Okay. They felt Sholay was doomed. And their doomsday prophecy was based on a very simple thing. How will it recover its costs? To be called a hit, it must recover so much. That's impossible. How will it happen? That kind of question mark. So it’s not true that it didn’t open well. Minerva or Excelsior both with 70mm and 33 other cinemas in Mumbai. Then later on it went to Delhi and UP Punjab.

But why was there an emergency meeting of the Sholay team two days after release? Many people commented that Amitabh Bachchan should not have died. They felt he had become so popular that they felt very bad that he died. But that is the emotion that was necessary. We had a meeting to discuss what to do. He died in Deewaar and my Shakti. But in these, he was a grey character. In Sholay, Amitabh Bachchan was a positive character. It was two friends. So why did he have to go? But he did.

So now the film will be released with the original ending where the Thakur stomps Gabbar to death? About that at the moment it's a controversy that I don't want to get into.

But are you happy that the original ending has been restored? I think I better not comment on this thing.

All right. So that’s fine. And the film is going to Toronto Film Festival. Will you be there? Yes. If it reaches there so will I.

Could we expect another Sholay from you? So many diversions, TV and OTT, the business has enlarged. So we have to look at it like that rather than look at it like that, ki ab 5 saal nahin chalegi, 10 saal nahin chalegi. I am working on something and hopefully I should be on it in a year's time. I'm working on the script. And hopefully I should be coming out with something. I should be ready to get on to the floors probably 6 to 12 months. And all I can assure you is that it will have my best.
