Alia Bhatt’s Lara Croft-inspired Halloween 2025 look features a braided ponytail, holster belt, and monochrome power dressing https://ift.tt/w0OT1YB

This Halloween, Alia Bhatt stepped into the shoes of one of pop culture’s fiercest female icons — Lara Croft, the legendary adventurer from Tomb Raider. Captured in striking monochrome frames by French photographer and hairstylist Mike Desir, Alia’s look perfectly blends cinematic nostalgia with high-fashion edge.

The look The Dear Zindagi actress’ ensemble stays true to Lara Croft’s signature aesthetic — a fitted black T-shirt paired with matching shorts, cinched at the waist with a bold, studded utility belt. The outfit strikes a balance between strength and sophistication, showcasing Alia’s athletic silhouette while keeping the styling minimal yet impactful.

The Jigra actress accessories amplify the fierce adventurer vibe — fingerless black leather gloves, thigh straps, and knee-high boots that elevate the look with a sleek, modern touch. The addition of a prop gun completes the transformation, exuding power and control without overdoing the costume element.

The hair and makeup One of the most striking elements of Alia’s look is her long, tightly-braided ponytail, an unmistakable nod to Lara Croft’s signature hairstyle. The braid adds a sense of discipline and sharpness, enhancing the character’s tactical appeal. Her makeup is intentionally pared down — matte skin, softly defined eyes, and a neutral lip, keeping the focus on her expression and stance. The visual tone Shot in black and white, the photos evoke a timeless, cinematic quality. The interplay of light and shadow heightens the mystery, making each frame feel like a still from an action film. Alia’s intense gaze and poised posture capture the essence of Lara Croft — bold, intelligent, and unafraid. A fresh spin on Halloween fashion What makes Alia’s Halloween look stand out is its restraint. Rather than relying on heavy costume detailing, the styling celebrates character through confidence, attitude, and precision. It’s a lesson in how to reinterpret an iconic persona with sophistication — keeping it chic, empowering, and editorial-ready.

THAMMA is a well-packaged entertainer. It is bound to do well at the box office Movie Review: THAMMA is a well-packaged entertainer https://ift.tt/PmzXBO7

Star Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Director: Aditya Sarpotdar

Thamma Movie Review Synopsis: THAMMA is a bloody love story. Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a TV reporter living with his parents (Paresh Rawal and Geeta Agarwal), goes trekking in the hills with friends. An unexpected bear attack leads him to Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), a mysterious woman who saves and heals him. Attraction blossoms, but Alok is soon captured by a strange tribe led by Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Tadaka defies her clan to save him, sparking a chain of events that threaten her world and his. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Thamma Movie Story Review: Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Fulara's story is drawn from Indian folklore and is refreshing. Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Fulara's screenplay flows smoothly, maintaining tension and curiosity throughout. But the writing also suffers in some places. Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Fulara's dialogues are witty, sharp and the ones mouthed by Nawazuddin are too funny.

Aditya Sarpotdar's direction once again hits the bullseye after MUNJYA (2024). His command over genre-mixing, blending supernatural tension with genuine emotion and humour, is commendable. Moreover, he keeps the narrative very simple and ensures that it has mainstream appeal. A few scenes stand out like Tadaka’s entry, Tadaka having dinner with Alok’s parents, Tadaka saving Alok from the goons etc. The intermission point is dramatic while the climax is gripping. A fight that takes place in the pre-climax is visually stunning.

Oh the flipside, the character intro is too quick. The makers don’t invest time in Alok’s work life. In fact, there was no requirement to show Alok is a reporter; it served no purpose. Moreover, Alok was supposed to be a loser but this aspect doesn’t come across well. Sure, he’s goofy but he also seemed dashing. The pace dips in the second half. Lastly, though the climax fight has its moments, it is underwhelming when compared to the endings of the previous films of the universe.

Thamma Official Trailer | Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui | In Cinemas This Diwali – 21st Oct

Thamma Movie Review Performances: Ayushmann Khurrana is in exceptional form. His performance moves seamlessly from vulnerability to comic timing to intensity. He anchors the film brilliantly. Rashmika Mandanna proves her worth. She owns every frame with her charm, fierceness, and mystique. Paresh Rawal is dependable. His comic timing and fatherly warmth provide the perfect emotional balance. Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s act reminds of his performances in films like KICK (2014) but it works well and raised laughs. Faisal Malik (P K Yadav; cop) is impressive while Geeta Agarwal Sharma lends able support. Varun Dhawan as Bhediya is too good.

Thamma movie music and other technical aspects: Sachin-Jigar's music is peppy but again, falls short when compared to the previous films of the universe. 'Tum Mere Na Huye' appears in the end credits is stunning. 'Rahein Na Rahein Hum' is haunting while 'Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka' and 'Poison Baby' are foot-tapping. Sachin-Jigar's background score is electrifying and enhances the tension and romantic intensity throughout.

Saurabh Goswami's cinematography is captivating. DNEG's VFX is top-notch, particularly in the creature sequences and mystical visuals. Grant Hulley and Parvez Shaikh's action is slick and energetic. Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray's production design and Sheetal Iqbal Sharma's costumes are appealing. Hemanti Sarkar's editing is slick but it also drags in the second half.

Thamma Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, THAMMA is a well-packaged entertainer that reinforces why the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe continues to be a franchise worth tracking. At the box office, the winning combination of its genre appeal, brand value, and the extended Diwali weekend is bound to translate into strong collections.

Farah Khan opens up about financial insecurity and the nepotism debate in Bollywood https://ift.tt/4bq27yz

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan opened up about her early financial struggles and why she understands the frustration many outsiders feel toward star kids in the film industry. In a recent conversation with Sania Mirza on the podcast Serving It Up with Sania, Farah reflected on her humble beginnings, financial insecurities, and perspective on privilege in Bollywood.

Farah Khan on her financial insecurities

When Sania asked if her difficult financial past shaped who she is today, Farah candidly said she still worries about money. She explained, “Till now, I’m insecure about money. For me, I need to be financially secure to relax — that’s the only insecurity I have. That drive to keep working is always there. I may not be actively directing, but I’m working harder than I did during my main career years. We saw our dad go from being very rich to very poor, and for several years, we lived hand to mouth.”

Farah has often spoken about her tough childhood — losing her father at a young age and growing up with her family in a single-room home. She began working early in life to help support her family, something that continues to influence her attitude toward work and money.

On outsiders’ frustration with star kids

Farah also addressed the resentment that many outsiders in Bollywood feel toward star kids, admitting she understands where that anger comes from. She said, “I can understand when people come from outside to Mumbai and have anger towards nepo babies. I can understand where that anger comes from, because they’re struggling to pay their rent every month. For them, the star kids’ struggles seem very frivolous.”

Reflecting on how success stories are perceived today, she added, “Nowadays, everyone wants a struggle story. Even those who haven’t really struggled are trying to create one out of something weird. But I’m happy that my kids won’t have one.”

Farah Khan’s journey in Bollywood

Farah’s determination and passion for dance helped her overcome her hardships. With no formal training and limited resources, she learned choreography by watching music videos and practising on her own.

Her big break came with the song ‘Pehla Nasha’ from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), which brought her instant fame. She went on to choreograph several iconic Bollywood numbers, including ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’, ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, and ‘Desi Girl’.

Not limiting herself to choreography, Farah made her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na (2004), starring Shah Rukh Khan. The film became a blockbuster, followed by hits like Om Shanti Om (2007) and Happy New Year (2014). Over the years, she has established herself as one of Bollywood’s most successful and versatile filmmakers.

Through her honesty and humor, Farah continues to inspire many — both within and outside the film industry — by showing that perseverance and passion can overcome even the toughest beginnings.

SINGLE SALMA makes an important comment but falls flat due to slow narrative Movie Review: SINGLE SALMA makes an important comment but falls flat https://ift.tt/BTQ0omq

Star Cast: Huma Qureshi, Shreyas Talpade, Sunny Singh

Director: Nachiket Samant

Single Salma Movie Review Synopsis: SINGLE SALMA is the story of an independent woman. 33-year-old Salma Rizvi (Huma Qureshi) works in the municipal department of Lucknow and lives with her father (Kanwaljit Singh), mother and brother Subhan (Sachin Kavetham). The family is dependent on Salma completely. She’s the only working person in the family and she also helped her elder sisters get married. Their ancestral house is mortgaged and Salma is trying her best to pay back all the dues to the corrupt real estate giant, Rastogi (Sharad Raj Singh). The pressure to get married compels Salma to go for arranged marriage meetups, but she fails to find even a remotely decent match. Finally, she comes across Sikandar Khan (Shreyas Talpade), a semi-literate man who runs an apparel shop. Salma is impressed by his humility and struggles and agrees to marry him. This is when she is asked to go to London for two months as part of the Lucknow Smart City project. Her family is against the idea, but Sikandar encourages her to take the plunge. In London, Salma works equally hard and also finds the much-needed independence. She also meets Meet Singh (Sunny Singh) and before she realizes, she is attracted to him. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Single Salma Movie Story Review: Amina Khan and Ravi Kumar's story is very promising. But Amina Khan and Ravi Kumar's screenplay is bland and gives a déjà vu of certain films. Mudassar Aziz's dialogues add to the fun, but such one-liners are also few and far between.

Nachiket Samant's direction fails to entice. To give credit where it's due, the message is easy to understand and comes across in a simple and concise manner. Secondly, a few scenes stand out like Salma and Sikandar's first meet, Salma's day at the beach, Sikandar bashing up Babban (Shiv Kanungo), Salma's clarification, etc.

On the flipside, the film moves at a slow pace. In the absence of sufficient humour and drama, the narrative becomes too dry. The overall track of Salma enjoying in a non-judgmental environment reminds one of QUEEN [2014] while Sikandar’s speech seems inspired by Akshay Kumar’s broken English lecture sequence in PAD MAN [2018]. A few developments are silly. Salma’s picture goes viral and even her family is aware of it. But Salma doesn’t get a whiff of it at all and she learns about it only once she’s home from the trip. The makers tried to give a hatke conclusion to the story. However, the finale fails to have the desired impact.

Single Salma – Title Track | Huma Qureshi, Shreyas Talpade, Sunny Singh | Sohail S, Shahid, Nachiket

Single Salma Movie Review Performances: Huma Qureshi tries a bit too hard to be serious in the initial scenes, but gets better later on. She proves her worth in the dialogue-heavy scenes, especially. Shreyas Talpade is impressive from the first scene itself. Sunny Singh’s accent appears a bit awkward initially. Yet, he passes muster, thanks to his overall performance. Kanwaljit Singh is dependable as always, while Sachin Kavetham leaves a huge mark. Nidhi Singh (Ratna), Aasif Khan (Rajiv), Lauren Gottlieb (Zoya) and Navni Parihar (Nirmala Shrivastav) are highly memorable. Sharon Drain (Taranjeet's partner), Sunny Gill (Taranjeet; Meet's grandfather), Devasheesh (Trumpet Raja), Shiv Kanungo and Sharad Raj Singh manage to make their presence felt. Akanksha Pandey (Shabana; Salma's sister) and Digvijay Pratap Singh (Nitesh) don’t get much scope.

Single Salma movie music and other technical aspects: None of the songs – the title track, 'Saiyaan Re Aaja Saiyaan', 'Drive Me Krazy', 'Sun Rahe Ho Na' and 'Bepaarwah' – are memorable. The background score is well-woven into the narrative.

Andrew Boulter's cinematography captures the locales of Lucknow and London with finesse. Tariq Umar Khan's production design is realistic. Veera Kapur Ee's costumes are authentic and the change in Salma's wardrobe is depicted convincingly. Ashish Tripathi and Abhishek Anand's editing should have been fast-paced.

Single Salma Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, SINGLE SALMA makes an important comment but falls flat due to the slow-moving narrative and an unimpressive climax. At the box office, it has got a token release of sorts and will largely go unnoticed.

The actor, who temporarily moved out of his iconic Mannat bungalow in Bandra, revealed that he is currently staying in a rented apartment while his home undergoes renovation.

Shah Rukh, who turns 60 this weekend, decided to interact with fans ahead of his birthday. On Thursday evening, he wrote, “Hi everyone. It’s been good times — awards, series release, anniversary, and all good things. Thought I’d share some happy answers with you. So, if free, please join in for a #ASKsrk. Love you, let’s start.”

I’m living on rent!).

His response quickly went viral, leaving fans amused. Many jokingly asked how much rent he pays or who his landlord might be.

Shah Rukh Khan and family move out of Mannat

Earlier this year, Shah Rukh and his family — wife Gauri Khan and children Aryan, Suhana, and Abram — temporarily moved out of Mannat. The bungalow is currently being renovated, a process expected to take a couple of years. In the meantime, the family has rented four floors in a luxury apartment building nearby.

EXCLUSIVE: Jitendra Kumar calls Arshad Warsi a ‘prankster’ as he spills BTS fun from Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas: “He used to change dialogues mid-take!” https://ift.tt/cLulhPz

When two powerhouse performers like Arshad Warsi and Jitendra Kumar come together, even the most serious film gets its share of laughter behind the scenes. Despite their film, Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas, exploring a serious theme like the investigation of a prostitution racket, it was Arshad and his pranks that kept the humour alive on the sets.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Jitendra revealed that the film’s intense subject matter didn’t stop the cast from having fun on set. “Sir ke saath kaam karna – main bahut excited tha (I was excited to work with Sir),” he shared. “He’s a very good co-actor, very helpful.”

Arshad was quick to return the praise. “Jitendra bahut achha actor hai, bahut natural,” he said warmly. “For me, it was very easy to work with him.”

What truly defined their bond, however, was the unplanned humour that unfolded while shooting. Jitendra laughed as he recalled, “Sir bahut baar shararat karte the (Sir would prank a lot). Kabhi achanak dialogue badal dete the— Sir would suddenly change the dialogues, and the whole team would burst out laughing!”

Arshad admitted to his playful antics, saying, “And set pe bahut masti hoti thi (it was real fun on the sets). The environment was positive and full of laughter — that’s when you get the best performances.”

Further it was being said that the actors built their rhythm naturally, with minimal rehearsals but maximum chemistry. By the end of the shoot, their coordination had become effortless. “When you’re working with someone who listens and responds naturally,” Arshad said, “the scene takes on a life of its own.”

Their off-screen camaraderie is clearly reflected in their on-screen performances, making Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas a collaboration that showcased both intensity and heart. Coming to the film, produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja, Kanishk Gangwal, and Vipin Agnihotri under Jio Studios, Baweja Studios, and Dog 'n' Bone Pictures, it stars Arshad as Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat and Jitendra as Sameer, a professor drawn into the case.

25 Years of Mission Kashmir: 6 reasons why Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film still resonates with audiences https://ift.tt/cjTuB8K

It’s been 25 years since Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Mission Kashmir released, yet the film remains a talking point among audiences and critics alike. Known for its layered storytelling, striking visuals, and memorable soundtrack, the film has continued to find relevance across generations. Here’s a look at why Mission Kashmir still holds its ground as one of Bollywood’s most impactful dramas.

1. Hrithik Roshan’s early-career performance that left an impact Playing Altaaf, Hrithik Roshan delivered a performance marked by intensity and emotional depth. He portrayed the pain and confusion of a boy shaped by loss and revenge, bringing both physical energy and emotional vulnerability to the role. The character remains one of his most memorable portrayals from his early years in cinema.

2. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s authentic connection with Kashmir Having grown up in Kashmir, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra brought a sense of realism and personal insight to the story. His understanding of the land and its complexities gave the film an authenticity that continues to stand out. Mission Kashmir wasn’t just about conflict — it reflected the filmmaker’s own emotional bond with the valley.

3. A strong ensemble that grounded the narrative The film featured powerful performances from Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, and Sonali Kulkarni, each adding depth to the story. Dutt’s portrayal of Inayat Khan, a man torn between duty and personal loss, was both restrained and emotional. Zinta’s Sufiya brought warmth to the film, while Kulkarni’s performance lent it quiet strength.

4. Visuals that captured the essence of the valley Cinematographer Binod Pradhan’s work remains one of Mission Kashmir’s defining elements. The snow-covered landscapes, local architecture, and everyday life in the valley were captured with both beauty and realism, making Kashmir more than just a setting — it became central to the film’s identity.

5. Music that defined an era The soundtrack by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy featured songs that continue to be remembered — from ‘Bumbro’ and ‘Socho Ke Jheelon Ka Sheher Ho’ to ‘Rind Posh Maal’. The fusion of Kashmiri folk music with contemporary sounds created a timeless appeal that resonated with audiences across the country.

6. Themes that remain relevant even today At its core, Mission Kashmir dealt with love, identity, and the cost of violence — ideas that continue to echo in modern storytelling. The film’s exploration of moral conflict and human emotion made it thought-provoking then and remains relatable even now.

A quarter-century later, Mission Kashmir continues to be remembered not just for its star power but for its storytelling, atmosphere, and music — elements that ensured its place as a memorable chapter in Indian cinema.

Her thoughts reflect a growing trend among young Indians who see solo trips not as an act of isolation, but as a form of self-liberation.

“I’ve not taken a solo trip yet, but I definitely intend to,” she confides, channeling the growing wave of independent travel sweeping through India’s youth. What stands out is her refreshing take on companionship while travelling. “Mere Saath agar koi aa raha hai toh achhi baat hai, nahi aa raha hai toh bhi bahut achhi baat hai (If someone is coming with me then well and good if not even then its okay),” Zareen shares. Her statement reflects a mindset of self-reliance and quiet confidence — one that encourages others to enjoy their own company and redefine what it means to explore.

Zareen’s perspective resonates with a generation eager to discover the world on their own terms. For her, solo travel isn’t about being alone — it’s about having the freedom to choose the destination, the pace, and the experience without compromise. Her approach to travel is refreshingly grounded and deeply personal.

“I book destination on the basis of where I want to go,” she admits, emphasizing that her travel plans are driven purely by passion and curiosity rather than trends or social expectations.

As Zareen prepares to tick solo travel off her wishlist, her outlook serves as inspiration for anyone who’s ever dreamed of venturing out alone. Her message is simple yet powerful — you don’t need company to create memories; you just need the courage to take the first step.

Isha Koppikar starrer Rocketship selected for Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival and Mokkho International Film Festival https://ift.tt/bwLnkKC

An upcoming film of Isha Koppikar titled Rocketship, has achieved a significant milestone, being officially selected for two prominent international film festivals — the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) 2026 and the Mokkho International Film Festival 2025.

The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival is regarded as one of India’s most respected platforms for recognizing cinematic talent, both domestic and global. The inclusion of Rocketship in its lineup marks an important achievement for the team, especially since the film was made in collaboration with students from Whistling Woods International, the film school founded by Subhash Ghai.

Koppikar’s decision to work with the academy’s students stemmed from her desire to support emerging voices in cinema. The collaboration allowed young filmmakers to gain hands-on experience while working on a professional feature film — an initiative that reflects her intent to contribute to the growth of new talent in the industry.

Sharing her reaction to the selection, Isha Koppikar said, “This is such an honour not just for myself, but for the entire team behind Rocketship, who relentlessly worked towards making it. Dreams indeed take flight, and I am so happy for all the recognition that Rocketship and the team are getting. I am especially happy for the students, who literally began their careers from scratch, working hard on the film, and are about to get their due recognition. Being selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival is a huge accomplishment, and I couldn't be prouder of what they have achieved. I am convinced these kids will be going places in the future.”

The film’s trailer, released earlier this month, has already drawn attention for its emotional depth and compelling premise. Rocketship tells the story of the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter — exploring themes of strength, resilience, and aspiration through a heartfelt narrative.

Produced by Harmanraai Singh Sehgal and directed by Arjun Menon, with a screenplay also penned by Menon, Rocketship features Isha Koppikar alongside child actor Amayira Sharma in pivotal roles. The dual festival selection marks a key step forward for the project, signalling growing recognition for the team’s effort to blend heartfelt storytelling with new creative talent.

Malaika Arora shares 50th birthday photos amid online debate over her age: “My heart is full” https://ift.tt/UzoXpHj

It’s been four days since Malaika Arora celebrated her birthday in Goa, but conversations around her age continue to dominate social media. While Malaika and her friends have maintained that she turned 50 this year, many netizens insist she is actually 52.

Her post featured multiple photos from the intimate bash, along with a heartfelt note that read, “My heart is full. Thank you all for the love, the wishes, and for making my 50th truly special. A special thank you to the wonderful people who helped me plan and create such a beautiful celebration.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions. While many fans showered her with love and birthday wishes, the comments section was dominated by users questioning her age. One wrote, “50?? I thought she was 52. Born in ‘73,” while another commented, “You’re gorgeous, but how come you’re 50? You were born in 1973, right? Just own it — you look amazing at 52 or even 54!” A third user quipped, “Agle saal 48 ho jana… do saal pehle bhi 50th, this year also 50th.”

Although the actress has remained tight-lipped about the renewed age debate, she has previously spoken about being age-shamed online. A few months ago, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Malaika admitted that being called “buddhi” (old woman) often triggers her. She said, “For me, ‘buddhiya’ — how can you even say something like that to somebody? Kabhi kabhi ye trigger karta hai (Sometimes, it triggers me) because it’s extremely insensitive. People only see the brave persona. They think ‘khush lag rahi hai’ (she looks happy), but they don’t realize there are so many things that can actually trigger or upset you.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat makers go against the tide - refuse post-theatrical OTT deal before release, put full faith in cinemas; Milap Zaveri reveals, "Producer Anshul Garg was wooed by OTT platforms, but he said no...!" https://ift.tt/i6D4Qfb

In today's times, it is rare for a significant film to be released in cinemas without an OTT deal in place. Earlier this year, Aamir Khan chose this unconventional path with Sitaare Zameen Par. And now Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is a rare film where the makers haven't given away the rights to any OTT platform. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat's writer-director Milap Zaveri spoke about this aspect in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Milap Zaveri said, "There's a reason why I call my producer Anshul Garg as 'Sher Garg'. He was wooed by OTT platforms. But he made it clear that he didn't want to sell the film's digital and satellite rights before release. This is because he had immense faith in the film. He made it clear that he had made the film for cinemas and only after the theatrical release will he decide which platform the film should be premiered on."

Milap Zaveri also said, "It needs jigra to have such confidence."

The price for a film's OTT premiere is often related to its box office performance. Hence, now with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat succeeding at the box office, it is sure to fetch a better price. Milap Zaveri excitedly agreed, "For sure!"

Amar Kaushik teases Chamunda casting: Will Alia Bhatt join the horror comedy universe? 'Not denying or accepting anything' https://ift.tt/hPrA9IL

Filmmaker Amar Kaushik recently spoke about the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) and addressed speculation about Alia Bhatt possibly joining the franchise with Chamunda. In an interview with Filmfare, Amar said he was not confirming or denying Alia’s involvement, adding that the team at MHCU always prioritizes the story before the casting process.

When asked directly if Alia Bhatt would be part of Chamunda, Amar responded, “Everything is on the timeline. When it happens, everyone will know. I am not denying or accepting anything right now. We only focus on the story and think about the casting later. We don’t write the script or story based on the cast. Thankfully, that does not happen here.”

Amar Kaushik on raising the bar for MHCU

The Stree director also spoke about the future of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and how the team aims to improve with each film. “The audience can expect the bar to go up with the upcoming films. We are making these movies for the fans and the public. If we make a mistake, we want the audience to tell us through Instagram or any platform. We only want to make honest films, like we did with our first one, Stree,” Amar shared.

About the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe

The MHCU began with Amar Kaushik’s Stree and has since expanded to include Stree 2, Bhediya, Munjya, and the recently released Thamma. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film was co-produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan.

The upcoming projects in the franchise include Shakti Shalini, featuring Aneet Padda, and Bhediya 2, which will see Varun Dhawan reprise his role.

Alia Bhatt’s upcoming films

Apart from the rumored Chamunda, Alia Bhatt will next be seen in Alpha, an action thriller directed by Shiv Rawail. The film is set in the YRF Spy Universe and features Alia as a commanding officer in an elite all-women combat unit alongside Sharvari Wagh. Alpha is scheduled to release on December 25. Alia will also appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, a period romantic drama co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

Boman Irani pens heartfelt tribute to late actor Asrani: “His commitment to the camera will remain with me forever” https://ift.tt/J9lNsvC

Veteran actor and filmmaker Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away in Mumbai on October 20 after a prolonged illness. He was 84. Remembered for his impeccable comic timing and a career spanning over five decades, Asrani’s passing has left the Indian film fraternity mourning the loss of a true legend.

Among the many who paid their respects was actor Boman Irani, who took to social media to share a heartfelt note about his recent experience of working with the late actor. Reflecting on their time together, Irani revealed that they had collaborated just ten days before Asrani’s passing.

In his post, Irani wrote, “Around ten days ago, I had the privilege of working with Asrani ji for the first time. For the shot, I was meant to be injured and on the floor. He, the doctor, had to rush in and help me. While he needed a little help in the dark walking around the crowded set, the magical word ‘action’ had another meaning for him.”

The actor went on to describe how Asrani, despite his frail health, transformed into a burst of energy once the cameras started rolling. “Like a live wire, he rushed into the room and instinctively landed on the floor on hands and knees, attending with urgency to the sprawled me. On ‘cut,’ he needed a little help off the floor. But his commitment to the whirring camera will remain with me forever.”

Irani concluded his note with a poignant remark about Asrani’s lifelong dedication to his craft: “Till the very end, there was nothing else in the world that he was meant to do. He will be in his onward place doing nothing else but responding to ‘Action’ and doing what made him and others happy.”

30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge EXCLUSIVE: Writer Javed Siddiqi recalls a senior person from YRF saying during the film’s making, “Is this a film? It’s a travelogue”; also reveals how he coined the iconic ‘Bade bade deshon mein…’ dialogue https://ift.tt/Opovthq

Aditya Chopra’s classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge completed 30 years earlier this week. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amrish Puri and Farida Jalal in pivotal roles, the film redefined romance in Hindi cinema. It continues to warm the audience’s hearts even after three decades.

One of the major reasons for the film’s success were the dialogues penned by the veteran writer and literary figure Javed Siddiqi, along with Aditya Chopra. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Siddiqi said that it’s a moment of happiness not just for him but everyone associated with the film to see the love pouring in even after these many years.

Didn’t expect the film to become a classic hit

Siddiqi said that they never expected the film to become so big while they were working on it. “When a film is being made for which writers, director and all come together, they always think that they are making a major and successful film,” he said. “Now, whether it happens depends on different factors. I always say that while cooking if you add the right ingredients in the right manner, the dish becomes tasty, else it turns out to be bland. The same is the case in films, if all the things are present as per requirements.”

He elaborated, “Now, the likes and dislikes of the audience change after every 10 years. It is important to write or make something while keeping in mind what people in the current era would like. There is surely a risk factor in it. It is important for the maker to be farsighted. When we were making this film, nobody had an idea that it would become such a big hit.”

Aditya Chopra showed immense maturity in his first film itself

Siddiqi noticed various fine qualities in Aditya Chopra while working on the film despite it being the latter’s debut. “Adi is a sincere and intelligent man,” he said. “Most importantly, his dedication is remarkable. He is so involved in his work that he doesn’t think of anything else in the world. If he is convinced about what he is doing is right, he won’t listen to anyone. This is a very good quality. If a person doesn’t believe in himself, he easily believes in what others tell him. Self-confidence is very necessary for a filmmaker, which Adi possesses.”

The writer added, “Whatever he thought at that time, was right as per that era. The credit of adding all the ingredients in the film goes to him. As a seasoned writer, I can say that the field that he chose for his film was such that its chances of failure are generally low if done well.”

What a senior Yash Raj Film official said about the film

Siddiqi narrated a funny incident of a person working in Yash Raj Films at that time having no confidence in the film while it was being made. “Someone working at a high post at Yash Raj Films told me to ask Yash ji (Yash Chopra) why is he making such a film. I asked him why is he saying that. He said, ‘Is this a film? It’s a travelogue’ (laughs). Woh sahab pata nahin ab zinda hai ki mar gaye, but I always remember this jumla of his. I feel it became a memorable travelogue,” said the veteran writer.

Love vs traditional values have always worked in Indian cinema

Siddiqi pointed out that the conflict in DDLJ was something that has always worked in our movies. “If you look back at the history of Indian cinema, whenever we have shown a clash between love and traditional values, those films have become classics,” he said. “For example, Mughal-e-Azam, Pakeezah, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ek Duuje Ke Liye, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, etc. Similarly, Dilwale Dulhania Ke Jayenge had a new sort of romance and the centuries’ old traditions and values of Punjab. It had a no-go situation and a question as to how these lovers will come out of it.”

The reason behind Kajol being called ‘Senorita’ in the film

During the initial phase of the bond between SRK and Kajol in the film, the former addresses the latter as ‘Senorita’. Revealing the reason behind this, Siddiqi said, “A lot of people, including Yash ji, asked me, ‘What is Senorita, Javed sahab?’ I said, ‘What else can he call her?’ He can’t call her ‘devi’, ‘lady’, ‘madam’ or even ‘behen ji’. Plus, I always see a Spanish girl when I look at Kajol. Her features are very Spanish. This is what I feel. I had said this to Kajol as well. Hence, we went ahead with Senorita and it worked.”

Lines like “Bade bade deshon mein aisi…” and “Jaa Simran jaa” becoming iconic

DDLJ has a few lines that have become memorable over the decades. One such dialogue mouthed by Shah Rukh’s character is, ‘Bade bade deshon mein aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita’. “It’s a cheesy line,” Siddiqi said, “which he repeatedly says to control a particular situation. Even when we talk, we say things like, ‘Jaane do yaar, yeh sab toh hota rehta hai’. It is the same thing; just the wordings got changed.”

Coming to ‘Jaa Simran Ja’, the veteran writer added, “When Simran asks for permission from her father (Amrish Puri) for the Euro trip at the start, he says the same dialogue. So, they also used it in the end by keeping the earlier situation in mind and used it very well.”

Thoughts and expectations while writing such dialogues

Siddiqi said that one doesn’t think that a particular line will receive claps or become hit or iconic while writing. “I have written several dialogues that have been popular for years,” he said. “Around 40 years ago, I had written, ‘Teri jaat ka baida maaroon’, which is remembered even today. As a dialogue writer, I am giving information and fulfilling my needs through words. So, you don’t think how one particular line will be perceived.”

Citing an example of another classic Hindi film, he said, “People have been repeating the lines from Sholay, which are actually meaningless. Where is the dialogue-baazi in a line like, ‘Kitne aadmi the?’? Similarly, how did ‘Arre O Sambha’ become popular? There is no magic of dialogue baazi in this dialogue. But because people like the film, they like its characters and once they like the characters, they like everything about them.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ayushmann Khurrana on reuniting with Amar Kaushik; says, “It’s a common man’s journey into superpowers” https://ift.tt/RMo2GL3

Ayushmann Khurrana is all set to reunite with director Amar Kaushik after their 2019 blockbuster Bala. The duo, known for their slice-of-life storytelling that blends humour with heart, are returning with a film that promises to take their signature “common man” universe into an unexpected, larger-than-life direction.

Speaking about working with Kaushik again, but this time with him as a producer, Ayushmann shared, “With Amar, I actually have a 100% record through Bala. This is my second film with Amar.” The actor, who has built his career on portraying relatable, everyman characters, revealed that this project marks a distinct evolution for both him and the director-producer. “This time around, of course, the common man element is there in this film,” Ayushmann explained to Bollywood Hungama. “It is a transition of the common man to somebody who’s got superpowers. So that transition is happening for the first time.”

The actor hinted that while the soul of the story remains grounded, the world around it expands in scale and ambition. “It’s based in Delhi — the same story, the same middle class. But there is a huge jump from a common man story — a beta guy — to somebody who becomes an alpha. He doesn’t know how to deal with superpowers,” Ayushmann said. “So that arc I haven’t lived in any film yet, and that’s why I’m very excited about it.”

With Kaushik, known for his sharp direction in films like Stree, Bala, and Bhediya, joining Thamma as the co-producer expectations are high that the film will balance its fantasy elements with the director’s trademark humour and social resonance.

Ayushmann’s comment about navigating the transformation from “beta to alpha” suggests a fresh twist on his familiar screen persona — that of an underdog navigating extraordinary circumstances. If Bala explored insecurities and identity, this new outing seems poised to explore empowerment and self-discovery — albeit with a fantastical edge.

As for Thamma, the film, also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, which hit screens on October 21, 2025, has opened to an encouraging start with Rs. 25.11 crores coming in. With positive reviews, strong word of mouth, and of course good content lead by a stellar cast the business prospects of Thamma that enjoys a six-day extended weekend are high. In fact, trade predicts that the collections of the film could go past the Rs. 60-70 cr mark by the end of its first weekend.

EXCLUSIVE: CID reunion with a twist! Daya and Abhijeet turn sworn ENEMIES in Dayanand Shetty’s Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai; also reveals, “Shooting wrapped up in JUST 17 days…decided to make the film as we didn’t want any producer telling us ‘Yahan paisa kaato’!” https://ift.tt/N59o7WE

Dayanand Shetty, known for playing the cult character of Inspector Daya in the long running crime TV show ‘CID’, is all set to release his first Hindi film as a producer, Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dayanand Shetty talked about his production, casting and a lot more.

Is Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai your first film as a producer? What made you take the plunge? I have produced a Tulu film (Yaan Superstar; 2023) before and this is our first Hindi film. Our director, Prabal Baruah sir, had a concept. When he narrated the concept to me and Aditya Srivastava sir, we realized that it was a story that deserves to be told on celluloid. The first thought that TV actors have is that we should make it into a TV show. However, the content was so well-suited that we felt that it would be ideal for a film format. Then we wondered about the finances and who would produce the film. This was around 2023, when we had just come out of Covid. We spoke to a few producers. But we feared that a producer would constantly tell us ‘Yahan paisa kaato, yahaan paisa bachao’ (smiles). We were clear that we wanted to shoot uninterruptedly. That’s when we took the onus of producing it ourselves.

Was casting yourself and Aditya Srivastava a natural decision? Yes, as the director was clear while narrating the concept that he wanted both of us in the lead cast. However, he also made it clear that our equation would be unlike the one we have in ‘CID’. He realized that even for the audience, it would be novel to see that the thick friends of ‘CID’ are sworn enemies of each other in the film. Also, we are not playing cops.

As for female characters, Sonali Kulkarni was his original choice. For the other character, we considered a few actors and finally, we zeroed in on Barkha Bisht.

Aditya Srivastava’s French beard look is quite interesting... Yes, it was intentional as all the characters have shades of grey. Until the end, the audience won’t be able to guess who is positive and who is negative. The audience would also be surprised to know about the motives.

How was the process of cutting the trailer? Was it a challenge to ensure you don’t give out important plot points while also enhancing the film’s hype? Again, the credit goes to Prabal Barua ji. He cut the promo and was clear that we have to show important plot points but also conceal the secret. There’s also a hint of eeriness. The feedback that I got from some people is that it looks like a supernatural or horror film. But it is basically a thriller mystery.

So, can we conclude that the suspense is not out yet and that we’ll be shocked with the climax? Yes, for sure (smiles).

How many days did it take the shoot the film? Prabal sir and the whole team had planned it very well. The dates were taken care of and the set was put up at the bungalow. Then the film went on floors and the shoot was wrapped up in just 17 days. We shot in the bungalow, in South Mumbai and the outskirts of the city. Everything went off smoothly and perfectly, just the way we had planned.

Since the team of ‘CID’ is a part of the cast, can we expect Shivaji Satam as ACP Pradyuman’s cameo? (Laughs) No. We did think of it, though. But then we realized that his character is so strong that we wouldn’t have been able to do justice. But apart from us, there’s also Zarina Wahab ji, Sahil Uppal and Liliput ji.

It's important for an independent film to get the right distributor. Who’ll be releasing Hello Knock Knock Kaun Hai? The film is being presented by Girish Wankhede. UFO Moviez is distributing it.

Do you have an OTT partner on board for the post-release digital premiere? As of now, we haven’t planned it. Once the film gets released, we’ll take a call.

Throwback: When Hrishikesh Mukherjee said that Asrani is his favourite actor of all, “What a talent, what an actor!” https://ift.tt/x8sVzyo

Asrani, who passed away on October 20, was versatile enough to carry off serious roles as effortlessly as the comedy for which he was known.

His creative partnership with Hrishikesh Mukherjee yielded a harvest of interesting characters. They first worked together in Satyakam in 1969, in which Asrani had a brief role. So impressed was Hrishida by Asrani that he cast him in a much more pivotal role in Guddi the very next year.

In Guddi, Asrani was cast in heartbreaking role as a Bollywood struggler whose dreams of stardom are shattered.

In Hrishida’s Bawarchi, Asrani was cast in the comic role of a self-styled musician dreaming of becoming a Bollywood composer. Asrani had lots of fun with this role. He got to sing the ‘Namaste Namaste Oh Pitaji’ number which he loved.

“I enjoy every film with Hrishida. But Bawarchi was a riot,” Asrani once said.

In 1974’s Abhimaan, Asrani excelled as star-singer Subir’s secretary, who can’t bear to see his boss turn vain. Amitabh Bachchan once told this writer that every scene with Asrani is a challenge.

Hrishida and Asrani went on to collaborate in Chupke Chupke, Mili, Alaap and Jurmana.

When this writer once asked Hrishida who his favourite actor was he said, “Beta, it is neither Rajesh Khanna, nor Dharmendra. Not even Amitabh Bachchan. It is Asrani! What a talent, what an actor! Cast him as anyone, anything, he is ready for the challenge. I get restless when I don’t have him in my film. Asrani also feels the same. ‘Cast me in the smallest of roles. But I want to be in every film of yours,’ he says. I try not to leave him out.”

Akshay Kumar mourns the death of veteran actor Asrani: “Speechless with grief”’ https://ift.tt/r9RHyBG

Veteran actor Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away on Monday evening at Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu, Mumbai, after battling a prolonged illness. The 84-year-old actor, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and memorable roles across decades of Hindi cinema, left behind a legacy that few can match.

Asrani was recently working on two upcoming projects, Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan, both of which remain unreleased. He had reportedly completed a significant portion of his shoot for the films. His co-star Akshay Kumar, who worked with him on both the films, expressed his grief on social media with an emotional tribute.

Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs just a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. Bahot pyare insaan the…he had the most legendary comic timing. From all my cult films Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our… pic.twitter.com/yo7wXnGO1Z — Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) October 20, 2025

Expressing his grief, Akshay wrote, “Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs just a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. Bahot pyare insaan the…he had the most legendary comic timing. From all my cult films Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our unreleased Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan…I had worked and learned so much from him. What an absolute loss to our industry. God bless you Asrani Sir, for giving us a million reasons to laugh. Om Shanti.”

Asrani, who entertained audiences for over five decades, was a staple in Hindi cinema’s golden era of comedy. From his iconic portrayal of the jailor in Sholay to memorable roles in Chupke Chupke, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, and Hera Pheri, he remained a beloved figure for generations.

His funeral was held in Mumbai on Sunday night in the presence of close friends and family. The loss of Asrani marks the end of an era in Bollywood’s comedy landscape—one defined by warmth, wit, and a timeless ability to make audiences laugh.

Trade experts predict first day numbers of Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat; are confident that both films will emerge as the BIGGEST openers for Ayushmann Khurrana, Harshvardhan Rane https://ift.tt/2FRGm3v

With the Diwali releases of 2025, namely the horror comedy Thamma and the intense romantic saga Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, just a few days away, trade experts predicted about how they’ll fare in cinemas.

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi predicted, “Thamma is tuned to open at Rs. 20 crores possibly. As for Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, there’s a serious undercurrent to it which is courtesy the music of the film. Day 1 of Deewaniyat can prove to be a head-turning surprise.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, said, “The box office has a huge capacity of Rs. 50-75 crores. How much the films would collect will depend on their capability. I’ll be happy if Thamma opens near the Rs. 20 crore mark. And if Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat opens near double digits, that would be great.”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal stated, “I expect Thamma to open at Rs. 15-18 crores. Ek

Deewane Ki Deewaniyat will open at Rs. 4 to 6 crores.”

But all of them agreed that the lead actors of Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat – Ayushmann Khurrana and Harshvardhan Rane – are all set to deliver the biggest openers of their respective careers. Ayushmann’s biggest opener was Dream Girl 2 (2023), which opened at Rs. 10.69 crores. As for Harshvardhan, his biggest opener was Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) which earned Rs. 4 crores on the first day of its re-release.

Akshaye Rathi said, “Both these films should open significantly higher than anything that the two actors have opened in the past.”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh agreed, “Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat would be Harshvardhan’s biggest opener. Thamma will also be Ayushmann’s highest opener because, firstly, it belongs to the horror comedy universe. Secondly, it’s a Diwali release and the film is backed by Dinesh Vijan. It can’t get bigger than that.”

Girish Johar also stated, “They are poised to have their biggest openers ever, unless the films are very bad and crash heavily in the evening.” Raj Bansal exulted, “Thamma will go beyond the Dream Girl 2 number as it’s a big holiday and it's the festive season. Hence, it is beyond any doubt that it would be Ayushmann’s biggest opener and the same goes for Harshvardhan.”

While it's heartening that both films will collect a maximum of Rs. 30 crores on their release day, a section of the trade and exhibitors is disheartened. After all, Diwali 2024 saw Singham Again earning Rs. 43.70 crores while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 accumulating Rs. 36.60 crores. In other words, both films collectively earned Rs. 80.35 crores in a day! Even other Diwali films in recent times like Tiger 3 (2023) and Sooryavanshi (2021) opened with a bang.

Taran Adarsh explained why the comparison with Diwali 2024 is unfair, “Both films don’t have such star power. Hence, we can’t compare. Singham Again had half the industry and was a big franchise. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, too, was a part of the brand.”

Lifetime predictions

The last film of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, Stree 2 (2024), collected Rs. 600 crores plus and is an all-time Bollywood grosser. Hence, can Thamma cross the Rs. 250 crore or Rs. 300 crore club and can Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat enter the Rs. 100 crore club?

Raj Bansal said, “It would be difficult to say unless I see the film or get to know the reports.” Girish Johar replied, “I feel this is a tall ask as of now. If they open up quite well and are fantastic, then obviously the capability is there, along with the festival period. If the content is strong, then anything can happen.”

Akshaye Rathi opined, “It depends on the merit of the film. Stree 2 collected more than Rs. 500 crores, but despite being in the same universe, Bhediya didn’t manage to cross the Rs. 100 crores mark. Interestingly, Munjya, which didn’t have any actor of this grade, managed to enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club. The universe has given Thamma the awareness and visibility, but ultimately, it’s the content of the film and the promotional material that generates buzz around it, thereby determining its fate.”

He continued, “The same goes for Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Munjya did the numbers purely on the basis of its content. Aashiqui 2 managed to over-perform back in the day purely on the basis of its music. A more recent example is Saiyaara, where the music drove the numbers rather than the actors. Even here, the music has caught on. It’s difficult to say where it’ll eventually reach, as that is determined by the film’s content. But in terms of music, we all may be in for a surprise due to the traction that the music has got so far.”

Alia Bhatt channels timeless elegance in an archival Ritu Kumar saree for Diwali 2025 https://ift.tt/rfDcQMb

The festive spirit of Diwali peaked this year with Bollywood’s biggest stars sharing glimpses into their private celebrations, but it was actress Alia Bhatt who truly stole the spotlight by making a powerful sartorial statement rooted in Indian fashion history. Sharing a carousel of photos on social media, the actress gave fans a beautiful peek into her "fam jam x diwali glam" while embracing an exquisite piece of archival couture.

The Fashion Narrative: A Saree of Legacy Styled by the industry's resident fashion visionary, Rhea Kapoor, Alia’s Diwali look was more than just a gorgeous outfit—it was a revival of heritage. The actress was draped in an exquisite rose gold silk saree from the archives of the iconic designer, Ritu Kumar.

As Rhea Kapoor herself detailed, the ensemble was a piece of fashion history: "Archival @ritukumarhq, Remembering the Silk Road. From the Ritu Kumar archives, this sari revives one of her earliest designs, first created over 30 years ago... The silver tikki on rose gold silk carries her signature. A piece of fashion history, preserved in thread."

Alia Bhatt’s Diwali 2025 Look Decoded:

The sheer beauty of the rose gold silk instantly elevates the look, offering a subtle, warm metallic glow that is perfectly festive without being overpowering. The saree's true masterpiece lies in the intricate silver tikki embroidery, a signature of Ritu Kumar's early work. This detailing, likely done in delicate floral or geometric patterns, creates a mesmerising, twinkling effect against the soft silk.

Alia's styling masterclass by Rhea Kapoor completed the vision. The saree was paired with a chic, sleeveless bustier-style blouse featuring a plunging sweetheart neckline, offering a modern, structured counterpoint to the heirloom silk. The inclusion of a matching embroidered jacket with full-length sleeves was a stroke of genius, lending a contemporary, layered elegance that made the traditional silhouette look current and regal.

The accessories were kept refined yet impactful: a classic gold choker necklace and perhaps a simple maang tikka, ensuring that the spotlight remained firmly on the 30-year-old saree. This choice to wear an archival piece not only highlights Alia’s personal commitment to sustainable fashion but also pays a beautiful tribute to the enduring legacy of Indian couturiers. The Festivities: A Star-Studded Family Affair Alia’s Instagram carousel was a heartfelt collection of precious moments. Alongside stunning portraits showcasing the ethereal quality of her look, the set included a beautiful family photo with her husband Ranbir Kapoor, mother-in-law Neetu Kapoor, and other close family members, radiating warmth and togetherness.

A particularly anticipated photo showed Alia posing alongside her sister-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who equally shone in a traditional Rajasthani Poshak, cementing the image as a powerful, multi-generational fashion moment.

The joy of the occasion was palpable, with the caption, “fam jam x diwali glam,” perfectly encapsulating the mood. The comments section quickly filled with adoration, including a note from Alia’s sister-in-law, who reacted with pure joy: “Fomo!!!!!!! You all look stunningggggggggg,” followed by heart emoticons, echoing the sentiments of her millions of fans who extended their heartfelt Diwali wishes.

After celebrating the festival of lights with her family, the focus now shifts to Alia Bhatt’s exciting professional slate. The actress was last seen on the big screen a year ago in Jigra (released in October 2024), and her return is highly anticipated.

She is all set to reunite with her husband and actor Ranbir Kapoor for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic film, Love & War, which also stars Vicky Kaushal. This collaboration marks their second on-screen pairing after the successful Brahmastra. Meanwhile, Alia is also preparing to headline YRF’s monumental venture: the studio's first female-led spy film, Alpha, where she will star alongside Sharvari and Bobby Deol as the antagonist

“Were we bhikaris before The Kashmir Files?” – Vivek Agnihotri SLAMS trolls linking lavish new house to film’s success; says, “Pallavi Joshi and I were always well-to-do” https://ift.tt/wxOEdpG

Vivek Agnihotri had a long conversation with Komal Nahta about his working style, beginnings in the industry and a lot more. At one point, he was asked to comment on his supposed claims that he would donate a portion of the collections of The Kashmir Files (2022) to the Kashmiri Pandits.

Vivek Agnihotri revealed, “I never said it. Some people with vested interests made that claim. Even before the film was out, we were working closely with the Kashmiri Pandit community. How can I announce? Woh paisa mera tha hi nahin!”

He said, “The budget of The Kashmir Files was Rs. 15 crores. While Zee Studios invested 50%, the balance Rs. 7.50 crores was funded by Abhishek Agarwal. We (Vivek Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi) worked on zero fees. We were minority partners as we didn’t have clout then. In The Bengal Files, we are the majority partners and also the major producers.”

Vivek continued, “So, it’s not like I got a huge amount of money or that my life changed big time. Some people alleged that I bought a lavish house. Aisa nahin hota ki film aa gayi aur agle mahine koi ghar le leta hai! That building was under construction. We had booked a house way in advance. It was a coincidence that The Kashmir Files was released and the registration happened at the same time. We didn’t have time to visit the government office for registration. So, once the film was out in cinemas, we got the time and did the registration.”

He thundered, “Also, were we bhikaris before The Kashmir Files? I have had a long, bloody career. Pallavi has been working for years. We were always well-to-do; we were not living in poverty.”

Vivek Agnihotri added, “Some skeptics demanded to know why I didn't donate? I am a filmmaker; this is my business. I made Buddha In A Traffic Jam (2016) in Rs. 1.75 crores. I earned some money from its sale. Then, I spent Rs. 6-7 crores in making The Tashkent Files (2019). Our brand equity grew a little more and that motivated us to make The Kashmir Files.”

He also stated, “I asked Zee for Rs. 2 crores to do research for The Kashmir Files. We used that money to meet Kashmiri Pandits in the USA, Europe, Jammu, Kashmir, etc. We had a unit of four people – me, Pallavi, my son and a cameraman. We used to rent a car from the airport. I used to drive the car. At times, we drove 8-10 hours to save money on flights. Hence, we had to struggle and face a lot of difficulties. After 4 years of research, The Kashmir Files was made. As for The Bengal Files, its research began on March 20, 2020, and it finally came out in cinemas after 5 years, in September 2025.”

Low buzz, high hopes: Trade optimistic that 6-day Diwali weekend will boost Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat https://ift.tt/virHDUe

Diwali is usually associated with big films and big numbers at the box office. But this time, limited hype seems to have been generated by the Diwali releases of 2025, namely the horror comedy Thamma and the intense romantic saga Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Several exhibitors and theatre managers told this writer, “Iss baar Diwali thandi lag rahi hai thodi.” Nevertheless, both films are mass-appealing and trade experts hope that they’ll score eventually at the box office.

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Thamma comes from the horror comedy universe, which will prove to be a major advantage. Over a period of time, they have cultivated a very strong fan base. There might be surprises as well (in the form of cameos).”

He further said, “The music is the biggest asset of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat; it has really caught on. I won’t say Harshvardhan Rane is a huge star but when music works, everyone benefits. Also, Harshvardhan Rane got the push with the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam (2016). This film is a bit different and hence, let’s wait and watch. But the music will definitely play a role in drawing the audience.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, commented, “Compared to the previous Diwali, the hype is milder. But the good part is that it’s a big holiday. Hence, I feel that the films will start on a slow note. However, if they enjoy strong reports, then they have the potential to score at the box office.”

Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi said on an optimistic note, “The buzz for both the films is reasonably good. The day after Diwali traditionally is one of the best days for box office. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat seems to be a film that caters absolutely to the front benchers and single screen audience and has got momentum courtesy the three songs, which have become very popular already. Thamma is in the space of horror comedy universe, which has seen tremendous success with Stree, Stree 2 and Munjya. Being a film in that space and hopefully featuring cameos by other characters, as it has been the case in the past, it should be a really good Diwali for all of us. I am hoping that the content of both films will fire in a good way and people will turn up in cinemas in big numbers.”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal didn’t mince words as he said, “Sadly, the buzz is hardly there. I have been talking to a lot of exhibitors and they are very disappointed this Diwali as they were expecting big films to hit the screens on the festival. Both films might still turn out to be big ultimately. But they fear that they would not open well as the star cast plays a major role in getting the audience in initially.”

He explained, “People are adopting a wait-and-watch strategy. They’ll first check the reports and then book tickets.”

Diwali releases usually arrive in cinemas a day after the big festival to take advantage of a National Holiday-like scenario. But Raj Bansal said, “Tuesday, the day these films will release, is a partial holiday. Certain people are celebrating Diwali on Monday, October 20 while some will bring in the festival on Tuesday, October 21. The big holiday is on Wednesday, October 22.”

Others, however, said that it's like a six-day long weekend in many parts of the country as New Year falls on October 22 while Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on October 23. The weekend arrives on Friday, October 24. Taran Adarsh said, “It’s a long, extended weekend, which can prove advantageous. But as I said, it all boils down to the content.”

A positive development this time is that the makers of both Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat have opted for reasonable ticket prices. Taran Adarsh explained, “The makers should go for popular pricing instead of blockbuster pricing. Let’s make the film more affordable to the common man. Once that happens, people definitely come into the theatres.”

A minor hiccup has been screens-sharing issues but the trade is confident that it's not extreme this time. Akshaye Rathi explained, “It’s always the question of the law of demand and supply. That is factored by the advance booking sales and also by the momentum that the genres have had in the past. Now, it’s understandable that the horror comedy universe of Maddock has been extremely successful so far and therefore, will have an edge over Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Having said that, the music of Deewaniyat is an underlying factor, which nobody can really gauge the impact of right now.”

He added, “On day 1, there may be a scenario where Thamma may have an extremely lopsidedly high showcasing. But after the release day, what takes over is the merit of the film. For all you know, things may actually start becoming fluid depending on how both the films are received.”

He remarked, “Despite the clash and programming tug of war continuing, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has already significantly got a better deal than what it would have got on a normal day. It speaks volumes about the distribution efforts that are being put into by its makers, that too, by a new company. Interestingly, it is also the film being distributed by them as well.”

Raj Bansal said on the same lines, “It’s all between the exhibitor and distributor. The exhibitors are very smart businessmen and won’t like to harm their business. They know which film would have a bigger opening and would opt for it. In case if the distributor pressurizes them and forces them to put on more shows, chances are that the showcasing of the weaker film would reduce from the second day. However, this time, I don’t think there would be any issue of showcasing. Ayushmann doesn’t have a pull in single screens. Hence, to fight for shows in single screens is uncalled for.”

Girish Johar agreed, “It’s very dynamic. If a film does well, it automatically gets more shows. The exhibitors are the first ones to get the pulse of the audience because they are at the ground level. If they realize that the shows of high-demand films are fewer, they’ll increase their shows. This has been proved multiple times as they don’t want to lose out on cashing on the higher-performing movie. I feel there’s ample space for both the films to survive.”
