EXCLUSIVE: Daya Shankar Pandey’s Mahima Shani Dev Ki created a Jai Santoshi Maa-like cultural phenomenon; sparked a 400% INCREASE in temples across India; Ramanand Sagar’s kin reveals, “My grandfather asked, ‘Yeh kaun dekhega? Shani se toh sab log darte hai’”
https://ift.tt/NFq1VoK

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan is arguably the most popular show in the history of Indian television. He and his family subsequently created several more devotional series for the small screen. While some of these shows had a significant cultural impact, their influence remains largely unknown. One such series was Mahima Shani Dev Ki, produced by Ramanand Sagar’s grandson Shiv Sagar and written by his son Prem Sagar, who is also Shiv’s father. Titled Mahima Shani Dev Ki, it was an overnight success and topped the charts for a long time. As per the website of Sagar World, “the number of Saturn (Shani) temples went up by 400% in the entire country due to the impact of the show, which for the first time showed Shani in a positive light as a planet of justice and punishment, versus a harsh planet that everyone was afraid of!”

The show’s impact mirrored the cultural phenomenon witnessed after the release of Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), often described as one of the biggest return-on-investment successes in Indian cinema. In a May 2025 article published by The Times of India to mark the film’s 50th anniversary, it was noted that anthropologist Veena Das had written in 1981 about how Santoshi Ma temples proliferated following the movie’s success, “not only in metropolitan cities but also in pilgrim cities like Varanasi”. She explained, “After watching the film, many bhakts wanted to visit a Santoshi Mata mandir to express their devotion, to do fasting rituals or just sit there to pay obeisance. That’s why so many mandirs came up at that time.” Mahima Shani Dev Ki appears to have created a similarly extraordinary cultural impact.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shiv Sagar revealed, “My dad, Prem Sagar, conceived that show in 1992. He went to my grandfather and expressed the desire to make a show on Shani. My grandfather asked him, ‘Yeh kaun dekhega? Shani se toh sab log darte hai’.”

He added, “But in 2008, we got an opportunity. For the first time, we cast a positive face – Daya Shankar Pandey – for Shani. Until then, makers had usually portrayed Shani in an aggressive or negative avatar. Meanwhile, our take was very different on the show. If you’ve done something wrong and Shani is the God of Justice and Punishment, He’s just doing His job. So, don’t blame Him. Blame yourself for indulging in some wrongdoing (laughs)!”

Shiv continued, “This take was different and it worked. Then, so many other shows came on Shani Dev. There was a show on Colors TV as well. But we were the original creators in 2008 for NDTV Imagine.”

He also stated, “That show did very well. It ran for 4 years and always topped the charts. Then it was aired on Dangal TV because Manish R Goswami ji had acquired the rights. Even on Dangal, it was the number one show. Meanwhile, Dangal was the number one FTA channel in India, courtesy all the Sagar shows.”

Mamta Kulkarni reacts to ‘Rana Ji 2.0’, praises Mahira Sharma; says she is ready to return to films with the right script
https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Mamta-Kulkarni-reacts-to-‘Rana-Ji-2.0-praises-Mahira-Sharma-says-she-is-ready-to-news.jpeg

90s star Mamta Kulkarni has shared her thoughts on the recently released track ‘Rana Ji 2.0’, featuring Mahira Sharma. The song is a modern recreation inspired by the iconic ‘Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna’ from the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kajol, and Rakhee. The original number, which also featured Amrish Puri and Ranjeet, remains one of the most memorable chartbusters of the 1990s.

Reacting to the recreated version, Mamta appreciated Mahira Sharma’s performance while acknowledging that the new rendition adopts a completely different visual treatment from the original. “She has done a good job. The point is that you're watching a song that was originally in ghagra choli and Indian dance moves, now made in a western format and in a western outfit. So, it stands out. But the earlier song is etched in people's minds, so it immediately comes to your mind,” she told Variety India.

The actress also looked back at filming the original song and recalled how the choreography underwent last-minute changes despite multiple days of rehearsals. She shared, “The rehearsals were scheduled for two to three days. But I got the steps right on the first day itself. When I arrived on the set, the steps were changed. I asked him why he had changed the steps. I wondered what the point of the rehearsals was, but Chinni Prakash masterji was very good, and we wrapped up the song on time,”

Speaking about the enduring success of Karan Arjun, Mamta credited filmmaker Rakesh Roshan for bringing together a massive ensemble cast and delivering one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters. “I give credit to Rakeshji for completing such a complicated film with so many artists. Karan Arjun became a superhit. Whether it was ‘Jai Maa Kaali’, ‘Bhangda Paa Le’ or ‘Ek Munda Meri Umr Da’, people loved all the songs,” she added.

Mamta also revealed that she is open to making a comeback to acting, provided she finds a project that genuinely excites her. She went on to say, “I've been receiving acting offers. If I get a script I'm truly excited about, I'm ready to take it on."

However, the actress admitted that her spiritual journey has significantly influenced the kind of work she wishes to do now. While she cherishes the memories associated with ‘Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna’, she believes she would not perform a similar song today because of its lyrics. “Of course, I won't be able to do a song like ‘Mujhko Ranaji Maaf Karna’ today with these lyrics. I'm spiritually conscious and awakened now. So, some songs don't work for me. I have to be more conscious of the lyrics than the dancing. Back in the day, I never thought about lyrics, as I was more focused on perfecting dancing steps. I was young and immature at that time,” she admitted.

Mamta Kulkarni’s remarks not only celebrate the lasting popularity of one of Bollywood’s most iconic songs but also reflect how her perspective has evolved over the years. While she remains appreciative of her cinematic legacy, the actress says her future choices will be guided by stories and characters that align with her current outlook and values.

Salman Khan ate biryani while getting hair treatment, recalls producer Shailendra Singh: “There’s a price to pay to be a star, bro”
https://ift.tt/57BpjvU

Producer Shailendra Singh recently shared an interesting anecdote about Salman Khan during a candid conversation with Cyrus Broacha. Recalling one of his visits to the superstar’s residence at Galaxy Apartments, Singh revealed how he witnessed Salman casually undergoing a hair treatment while enjoying a plate of biryani, leaving him completely surprised by the unusual sight.

Speaking about their regular get-togethers, Shailendra reminisced about the Monday night gatherings they often had at Salman’s home. He also revealed the actor’s unique habit of eating while looking into a mirror, with conversations often taking place through their reflections. “I went to Salman for a meeting at his place in Galaxy Apartments. In those days, we used to have Monday night parties. He was sitting at the dining table, eating, and looking at himself in the mirror. He likes to eat while looking in the mirror. There’s a small table in the kitchen with a mirror in front, so you’re sitting next to him, but you’re actually talking through the mirror,” he said.

The producer then recalled an unexpected moment when a man entered the room carrying medical equipment. As Salman continued eating his meal unfazed, the visitor began administering injections to the actor’s scalp. He recalled, “He’s sitting there eating biryani—you know Salman, he enjoys his food, especially after a few drinks. Suddenly, this strange-looking guy walks in, puts on gloves, takes out a needle and starts injecting his scalp. I’m watching all of this in the mirror and thinking, ‘What the f* is going on here?'”

According to Shailendra, Salman responded to his stunned reaction with complete ease, explaining that maintaining one's appearance comes with the demands of stardom. He went on to continue, “He just said, ‘There’s a price to pay to be a star, bro.’ He kept eating while the treatment continued.”

Looking back, the producer admitted he had no idea what procedure Salman was undergoing at the time. However, he noted that such treatments have now become increasingly common among actors dealing with hair thinning. “At that time, I didn’t know what it was. I think everyone does it now—Hrithik does it, everybody does it. As you grow older and your hair starts thinning, you have to do these things,” he added.

Shailendra Singh’s anecdote offers a rare glimpse into Salman Khan’s off-screen personality, highlighting the actor’s ability to remain completely at ease even while undergoing a cosmetic procedure. The story also sheds light on the lengths many actors go to in order to maintain their on-screen image, while balancing it with everyday moments as simple as enjoying their favourite plate of biryani.

The Traitors Season 2 launch: Karan Johar refers to rival reality shows, leaves attendees amused: “Unlike other shows, winner won’t be a hack…when we get LOCKED UP with Prime Video, there will always be an ALLIANCE!”
https://ift.tt/V4iFG9C

Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Prime Video’s Nikhil Madhok attended the launch of The Traitors Season 2 at a studio in Mumbai. The lavish and intriguingly themed event also saw the contestants of the new season being introduced for the first time – Rhea Chakraborty, Krystle D’Souza, Ranveer Brar, Mallika Sherawat, Shahneel Gill, Abhishek Malhan, Munawar Faruqui, Rida Tharana, Tanya Puri, Shalini Passi, Soundous Moufakir, Harman Singha, Ansh Chopra, Aditya Kulshreshtha aka Gullu, Karan Singh, Ikka, Parul Gulati, Shweta Tiwari, Prish, Sahil Salathia and Dalip Tahil.

Karan Johar, who’s also the host of the show and the producer, was asked whether he would be more unforgiving and ruthless than last season. He said, “My reputation precedes me! I won’t be forgiving. I’ll definitely be more ruthless. But we will never forget to be entertaining. That is the modus operandi for any popular show. “I am so proud that our show, The Traitors, is in its second season. You know, when you get the green light from a streamer, and there’s a Season 2, it only shows how popular Season 1 must have been for us to be validated with a second season (smiles).”

He then revealed, “This season shocked, surprised, appalled and even terrified me. I saw the level of betrayal, I saw the level of attack, I saw the level of manipulation and I saw the level of strategy that I was not expecting. When we say the show is called The Traitors and that it’s a game, trust me, it stopped being a game at some point… it became a dhamaka of betrayal. Literally, every night, there was an attack and there was a stab in the back. Emotions you won’t lack. And unlike other shows, the winner won’t be a hack.”

The last sentence seemed to be a dig at rival reality shows on other platforms. The fun further continued as Karan Johar said, “Prime Video is someone we love and we adore. And all I can say is that when we get locked up with Prime Video, there will always be an Alliance!”

The Traitors Season 2 will start streaming from August 13.

BHAI TERA STAR HAI is an unfunny comedy that fails to make the most of its premise Movie Review: BHAI TERA STAR HAI is a chaotic and unfunny comedy
https://ift.tt/SK4uVRY

Star Cast: Raghav Juyal, Sanjay Kapoor, Niharika NM

Director: Vivek B Agrawal

Bhai Tera Star Hai Movie Review Synopsis: BHAI TERA STAR HAI is the story of a man in trouble. Ajay Singh (Raghav Juyal) is a struggling actor living in London. He owes £10,000 to Fatty (Sanjay Kapoor), a dreaded don and pub owner. Fed up with the repeated delays, Fatty gives Ajay 90 minutes to repay the money. Ajay leaves the pub and meets his girlfriend, Roshni (Niharika NM), asking her for financial help. He lies that his sister, Natasha (Parvathy Omanakuttan), is pregnant and urgently needs money. At the same time, he tells Natasha that Roshni is expecting a child and, therefore, requires money urgently. Meanwhile, Roshni asks her brother, Sid (Vivan Bhatena), to arrange the cash. Sid has lent money to several women and goes around the city trying to recover it from them. One of these women is his former girlfriend, Natasha, who also happens to be Ajay’s sister. Soon, several other characters become embroiled in the madness that unfolds over the course of one night. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Bhai Tera Star Hai Movie Story Review: Sudipto Sarkar and Vivek B Agrawal's story may have sounded very exciting and novel on paper. Sudipto Sarkar and Vivek B Agrawal's screenplay is witty in the sense that it has multiple one take shots. However, the goings-on are bizarre and not funny at all. Sudipto Sarkar and Vivek B Agrawal's dialogues (additional dialogues by Vanika Sangtani, Puneet Sheth, Kamya Mehra) are just okay. Only a few one-liners are funny.

Vivek B Agrawal’s direction is poor. To give credit where it is due, the film features several five- to ten-minute-long takes. It is commendable how the makers manage to pack so much action into scenes filmed in a single take. Moreover, these sequences are not restricted to one location or a static frame; some even unfold on the streets, adding to the chaos. The idea of the protagonist separately lying to his sister and girlfriend about the other being pregnant in order to raise money is clever and could have generated considerable entertainment. The character of Fatty is also amusing – a dreaded don in front of the world who is, ironically, terrified of his wife, Mandy (Niki Walia).

Yet, the film simply fails to impress, as there is hardly anything genuinely funny in it. Despite being just 105 minutes long, it becomes a chore to sit through. The lengthy single-take sequences cease to impress after the first few minutes, while the proceedings become increasingly bizarre as the film progresses. A crucial plot point involves a character being shot in the neck or shoulder. At times, he appears to be in immense pain, but in other scenes, he behaves as though he has suffered only a minor scratch. He does not receive any treatment for his serious injury until the very end and simply goes home! The finale is highly convenient. While most of the tracks are neatly wrapped up, one major subplot is left unresolved.

Bhai Tera Star Hai Movie Review Performances: Raghav Juyal is amusing in a few scenes, but overall, his performance is too loud, possibly due to the requirement of the script. Niharika NM has an arresting screen presence and delivers a subtle and effective performance. Sanjay Kapoor is aptly cast and tries his best to enhance the impact. Tina Desai (Chandani) is lovely in what could be called her comeback role. Barkha Singh (Laila), Parvathy Omanakuttan and Vivan Bhatena are sincere. Vikalp Mehta (JD) is fine but is let down by his character. Niki Walia and Dev Agarwal (Jackie; younger brother) are just okay. Chandan Roy Sanyal (Officer Hamid) tries his best, but his character just doesn’t entice. Naser Al Azzeh (Harry) and Vineeth Kumar (Sandy) are forced into the narrative.

Bhai Tera Star Hai movie music and other technical aspects: Amit Trivedi’s music is not up to the mark. The title track plays during the opening credits. Meanwhile, believe it or not, but as many as three songs – ‘Aankhon Se Tune 2.0’, ‘Nach De Lalariya’ and ‘Rang Barse’ – are played back-to-back during the end credits. ‘Aankhon Se Tune 2.0’ stands out due to its picturization, though it is rather forcefully incorporated into the narrative. Shivam-Anuj’s background score is also excessively loud, while the intermittent use of ‘Reel’-style sound effects is a put-off.

Tribhuvan Babu Sadineni’s cinematography is commendable, particularly in the way the lengthy single-take sequences have been executed. The production design is decent. Rick Roy's costumes are rich. Avantika Hari's editing is smart.

Bhai Tera Star Hai Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, BHAI TERA STAR HAI is a chaotic and unfunny comedy that fails to make the most of its interesting premise and single-take sequences. With limited buzz and the film clashing with the monstrous SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, it is likely to struggle to attract audiences at the box office.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY swings high on heart, humour and action, making for one of the franchise's strongest outings Movie Review: High on emotion, humour and heroism SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is less multiverse, more heart.
https://ift.tt/sw2TQxH

Marvel has spent the last few years chasing bigger worlds, bigger stakes and bigger crossovers. But after the emotionally devastating finale of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, the franchise didn't need another multiverse headache, it needed Peter Parker. SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY understands exactly that. Instead of trying to outdo its predecessor with endless cameos and universe-hopping madness, the film strips things back to what made Spider-Man a global favourite in the first place: a young man trying to do the right thing even when life refuses to cut him a break. The result is a refreshing, emotionally grounded and thoroughly entertaining superhero film that reminds us why the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man still reigns supreme.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Review Synopsis With the world having forgotten Peter Parker's existence, Spider-Man is now truly on his own. Juggling responsibility and relentless crime-fighting, Peter has accepted that saving the city often comes at the cost of having a life of his own. But when a dangerous new enemy emerges and old wounds begin resurfacing, Peter is forced to confront challenges that test not just his powers, but his resilience. As New York becomes the battlefield once again, Spider-Man discovers that every new beginning comes with a price.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Movie Review The smartest decision SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY makes is refusing to become SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME 2.0. This isn't a film obsessed with nostalgia. It's interested in something far more compelling, watching Peter Parker rebuild his life from scratch. The screenplay keeps its focus firmly on character. Peter's loneliness isn't milked for sympathy; it's woven naturally into the story, making every victory feel earned and every setback sting just a little more. The humour lands, the emotional beats feel genuine and, thankfully, the film knows when to slow down instead of sprinting from one explosion to the next.

What truly works is the balance. The film delivers enough laughs to keep things breezy, enough action to satisfy Marvel fans and enough emotional depth to make you care about the man beneath the mask. Even the quieter scenes carry weight because the audience is invested in Peter, not just Spider-Man. The third act does become a little overcrowded, with a few familiar Marvel tendencies creeping in. Some plot turns arrive a touch conveniently and one or two supporting characters deserved more screen time. But these are minor speed bumps in an otherwise engaging ride.

Most importantly, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY finally lets Peter grow up and the franchise is all the better for it.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Movie Review Performances Tom Holland is, once again, the film's biggest strength. He has now completely owned the role, effortlessly blending awkward charm, self-deprecating humour and emotional vulnerability. This is arguably his most mature performance as Spider-Man, proving he no longer needs bigger spectacles to shine.

Zendaya is likeable and though her screen time is limited, she makes her presence felt.

The supporting cast is equally dependable, bringing warmth, humour and just enough intrigue without stealing the spotlight. Their chemistry keeps the emotional stakes grounded, ensuring the film never loses sight of its human side amid the superhero chaos.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Movie, Music and Technical Review Visually, Brand New Day feels sharper and more confident than several recent Marvel outings. The CGI is polished without becoming overwhelming, while the web-swinging sequences are genuinely exhilarating and among the film's biggest crowd-pleasers. The action choreography deserves special mention. Every fight has its own rhythm, making full use of Spider-Man's agility rather than relying on repetitive CGI mayhem. The background score complements the emotional moments beautifully before exploding into full superhero mode during the larger set pieces. Crisp editing and confident direction ensure the film rarely loses momentum.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Movie Review Conclusion On the whole, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY proves that Spider-Man doesn't need a multiverse to be marvellous. All he needs is a strong story, genuine emotion and a hero worth rooting for. Funny, heartfelt and packed with thrilling action, this is one of the most satisfying SPIDER-MAN films in years and a welcome reminder that sometimes the smallest stories leave the biggest impact. At the box office, the film is poised for a thunderous start and has all the ingredients to emerge as the biggest SPIDER-MAN hit ever.

Gauahar Khan slams Nikhil Chinapa over perimenopause remark on Alliance: “Get your facts right and please be sensitive to women”
https://ift.tt/dJmBgAh

Reality series Alliance has found itself at the centre of a controversy after contestant Nikhil Chinapa's remarks about actress Gauahar Khan and women's health drew sharp criticism from the latter. Gauahar took to social media to express her disappointment, calling out Nikhil for bringing up a sensitive issue like menopause and perimenopause while responding to her opinion about his gameplay on the Amazon Prime Video reality series.

During a conversation on the show, Nikhil Chinapa initially expressed gratitude towards Gauahar Khan after learning through her husband Zaid Darbar, who is also a participant on Alliance, that she had always respected him despite the two never having met. However, his subsequent comment sparked backlash. Referring to fellow contestant Mini, Nikhil said, “Maybe Mini will know more about this because she deals a lot with menopause and perimenopause. So maybe she may have some insights on why Gauahar said whatever she said."

Responding to the remark, Gauahar did not hold back and addressed why she found the statement insensitive in a series of videos. She said, "I feel so sad for them that they don't even know the basics of how sensitive this issue called menopause and perimenopause is and what women go through. And for someone like Nikhil Chinappa to mention that as a comeback to my viewpoints of him as a player... it's shocking."

She went on to clarify that she continues to respect Nikhil despite being hurt by his comments. "I'm so glad that Zaid went inside and told Nikhil that I was fond of him. I still am. I think he's a great guy. I think he has a great personality and an amazing body of work. I have utter respect for him. But what do you mean by saying Mini can comment because she deals with menopause and perimenopause?", she stated.

Questioning the assumption made about her age and health, Gauahar further said, "You're assuming that I'm at an age where I must be going through menopause or perimenopause, and that's why I have those viewpoints. That is ridiculous." The actress also pointed out that she had recently embraced motherhood, adding, "For your information, I've had a baby nine months ago, so clearly I'm not going through menopause or perimenopause. Get your facts right and please be sensitive to women when you're putting them in a category like that. Disgusting."

Gauahar's reaction has sparked conversations on social media about the importance of discussing women's health issues with sensitivity and avoiding assumptions based on age or personal opinions. Neither Nikhil Chinapa nor the makers of Alliance have responded publicly to Gauahar's statement at the time of writing.

Elli AvrRam launches ‘Ellness Life’ on her birthday, celebrates wellness and mindful living on social media
https://ift.tt/BUHzCfY

Actress and artist Elli AvrRam has unveiled ‘Ellness Life’, a new platform that reflects her personal journey of growth, healing, curiosity and self-expression. Described as more than just a platform, Ellness Life is envisioned as a space that encourages authenticity over perfection while inspiring people to reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

According to its vision, Ellness Life represents living with heart, mind, body and purpose, celebrating the beauty of becoming rather than striving for perfection. Through honest reflections, movement, dance, creativity, nature, mindfulness, wellness and conscious living, the initiative aims to encourage people to slow down, breathe and embrace everyday moments as opportunities for self-discovery.

The platform also underlines that growth is not limited to major life milestones but can be found in everyday choices—choosing kindness, presence, movement, gratitude, authenticity, curiosity and care for oneself, others and the Earth. It emphasises that every individual moves at their own pace, making the journey about personal progress rather than comparison.

Ellness Life is envisioned as a home for those seeking to become more conscious human beings. Inspiration on the platform will come in many forms, including thoughts, conversations, dance, paintings, walks in nature, books, quotes and even quiet moments over a cup of tea. Elli also plans to share mindful living practices, wellness and self-care, movement and dance, creativity, artistic expression, nature, personal reflections and experiences that continue to shape her life.

Speaking about the initiative, Elli AvrRam shared, “Ellness Life isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about staying curious enough to keep asking the questions. It’s where I’ll share the things that continue to inspire me to grow, to become more conscious, and to live with more heart. If something I share resonates with even one person, then this little seed has already begun to bloom.”

She further explained the purpose behind the platform, saying, “Ellness Life is not about becoming someone else. It’s about gently returning to who you’ve always been. This is for those who are on a similar path and aligns with it. It’s another side of mine that I have been sharing bits of throughout my years on my personal page elliavrram. And now I want to share more of what my interests are. And it’s for those who feel like being part of it. There’s the actress/artist Elli AvrRam who gets into characters and perform different dance numbers and shares bits about her world. And then there is Elli who is just a normal girl on an inner journey to figure out herself and life, like most of us are. So it will be a parallel page I’ll be handling while I continue my work in the entertainment.”

With Ellness Life, Elli AvrRam is opening a new chapter that runs parallel to her work in the entertainment industry, offering followers a deeper glimpse into the interests, practices and perspectives that have shaped her personal journey beyond the screen.

Raja Chaudhary alleges Shweta Tiwari had affair with Kasautii Zindagii Kay co-star Cezanne Khan: “She lied about everything”
https://ift.tt/VCjkMRc

Former actor Raja Chaudhary, the ex-husband of television actress Shweta Tiwari, has made a series of allegations regarding her personal life during a recent conversation with Siddharth Kanan. Speaking about the period when Tiwari was working on the popular television show Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Raja claimed that she was involved in a relationship with her co-star Cezanne Khan.

During the interview, Raja alleged that his suspicions about the two actors' relationship were based on incidents he claims to have witnessed at the time. "Not just Cezanne Khan. There are so many people. She had an affair with each and every person, I feel," he said.  He went on to elaborate on his allegations, claiming that people close to them had also spoken to him about the matter. “What I saw at that time was totally proven... yaar (friend), she was working with him. She was staying in his house. Even a common friend of ours confessed that she used to come here with him. What else can a man believe, yaar? Even he himself said yes, that we're in a relationship. Teri himmat hai toh tu aaja mere ghar, Koliwada (If you have the courage, come to my house in Koliwada).”

Raja further claimed that although he confronted the situation, he did not pursue a confrontation. "Ab main ye ladai karne baithunga kya tere sath (Am I supposed to sit and fight with you over this now)... but she never accepted. She said, 'No, no, we're just good friends.'” Recalling a phone conversation that he alleged took place with Cezanne Khan, Raja said, "He said this on the phone. I said, 'Why are you doing this? Why are you spoiling this family?' Bola, 'what family? She's never with you. Since day 1, she's with me. You're just his unpaid boy.' He said that. Be happy the way you're."

Speaking further, Raja questioned what he described as inconsistencies in Tiwari's whereabouts during that period. "Bhai (brother), you say you're going for a shoot, and the next day newspapers say you're in Delhi opening some showroom. What all does this indicate? In a relationship, you're lying and relying on this person with whom you're working. Maybe she got unbalanced between reel and real life. She mixed her reel life into real and real into reel. Usne kya socha hoga usse better toh koi nahi janta (No one knows better than her what she must have been thinking)."

Claiming that he personally witnessed incidents that strengthened his suspicions, Raja added, "Ye aapne aankhon se dekha. Ye proven hai (I saw this with my own eyes. For me, it was proven)." He further recalled one such incident, "She claimed she's going to shoot. Uske gadi mein mera kuch saman rakha tha (Some of my belongings were in her car), I went to pick them up. I went to the set. She wasn't there. But after an hour, she is coming in his car, and her car is followed by his driver." Raja also described another instance, "Second, she said I'm in a dubbing. I went to the dubbing to surprise her or something. Dubbing people said she's not there. There is no dubbing today. Where's she then? She's with Cezanne." According to him, there were multiple such occasions. "Two-three incidents happened like this."

He concluded by reiterating his allegations and claiming that dishonesty had damaged their relationship, "‘Aur isse zyada kya (What more proof do you need)?’ and you're not saying I'm with him. I'm somewhere else. Pile of lying. She lied about everything." Looking back on that phase of his life, Raja added, "What all I can say... I don't even remember. It took me a lot of time to get rid of this thought."

As of now, neither Shweta Tiwari nor Cezanne Khan has responded publicly to Raja Chaudhary's latest allegations. Their response is awaited.

Gen Z protests expose Bollywood’s disconnect: Why the youth had to look back at Rang De Basanti, a forgotten Amitabh Bachchan film on hunger strike, while Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan showed the way of achieving balance
https://ift.tt/xuZdpzT

The last 20 days were dominated by the Gen Z protest, which began in Delhi but soon spread to Mumbai and several other cities across India. What stood out was not just the entertainment quotient of Gen Z’s Instagram posts, but also the songs they used in their Stories and Reels.

One film that featured prominently was Rang De Basanti (2006). From the title track to ‘Roobaroo’ and ‘Khoon Chala’, its songs have enjoyed a stunning renaissance over the last 10 days. The film itself centred on youngsters revolting against a powerful system, while its tagline, ‘A Generation Awakens’, perfectly captured the spirit of the present movement.

Meanwhile, Satyagraha (2013), a largely forgotten film, began to be discussed again. It featured Amitabh Bachchan’s character going on a hunger strike, prompting people to draw immediate parallels with Sonam Wangchuk’s ordeal. The film’s song ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ also returned to the trending charts. Yuva (2004), a fine film but which is not particularly popular among Gen Z, received a fresh lease of life as well, especially its song ‘Dhakka Laga Bukka’. Scroll through the comment sections of any of these songs, and all you will see are people discussing the protest.

However, the common factor among these films was that none was made recently. They belonged to a different era, politically and otherwise. Members of Gen Z were very young when these films were released, and yet these were the stories they related to, not anything made in the last 12 or 13 years. The fact that they had to rediscover a film like Satyagraha, which had barely been discussed since its theatrical run ended, shows just how disconnected many of our filmmakers have become from contemporary reality.

Cinema always reflected the mood of the nation and what’s happening right now is rare – our films are not touching on burning topics. Of course, censorship is a major reason, and the fear among filmmakers is both real and understandable. Hence, it's high time that our films reflect the mood of the nation while ensuring that they do not make those in power excessively uncomfortable.

This writer had exclusively spoken to Atul Kulkarni – currently a hero among youngsters because of his videos from the protest – in January 2021, on the 15th anniversary of Rang De Basanti. When asked whether a film like Rang De Basanti could be made today, he gave an interesting reply: “Films are made according to the times we live in and the current trends. So accordingly, you have to design your narrative. Filmmakers toh apni hi kahaniyaan kehte hain. Kis tareeke se kehte hain, shayad woh badalta hoga. Suppose Rang De Basanti had been made 30 years ago and not 15 years ago, toh obviously woh film alag banti. Par kahaniyaan toh hum wahi kahenge jo hum kehna chahte hain.”

Hence, filmmakers must tell the stories they believe in; how they adapt those stories to the prevailing circumstance is what matters. And one need not look very far for an example. Shah Rukh Khan did exactly that with Jawan (2023). His nearly three-minute-long monologue in the climax sparked a frenzy in cinemas. SRK’s character, Azad, urges citizens to vote responsibly and question candidates before casting their ballots. Many producers and actors might have trembled upon reading such a dialogue at the script stage. But one of the country’s biggest superstars took the risk and incorporated it into the most expensive film of his career. The rest, as they say, is history.

Most powerful monologue with a very high influence on first time voters 🔥🔥👏👏#Jawan #ShahRukhKhan #LokSabhaElections2024 pic.twitter.com/A9RTyCBChb — Shah Rukh Khan Fan Club Pune | SRK FC Pune (@SRKFC_PUNE) April 25, 2024

However, as Atul Kulkarni observed, Shah Rukh Khan adapted his narrative to the times. As a result, the dialogue became memorable without sparking any controversy or causing political fallout.

It is important that our filmmakers take a leaf out of Jawan’s book and collaborate with like-minded, socially conscious writers and artistes to create films that are hard-hitting and emotionally resonate with the masses, while also avoiding unnecessary political controversy, even if certain dialogues appear critical of those in power. Similarly, we need songs that young people can genuinely connect with, so that the next time the country unites behind a common cause, they do not have to look back one or two decades to find tracks that reflect their emotions.

World Nature Conservation Day 2026: Tarun Mansukhani, Sadia Khateeb, Harshita Gaur and Lauren Gottlieb reflect on protecting nature through culture, community and conscious choices
https://ift.tt/qPlYVwQ

World Nature Conservation Day 2026 serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving the planet's natural resources and biodiversity for future generations. Marked every year on July 28, the day encourages individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices while recognising that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility. Joining the conversation this year, filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani, actors Sadia Khateeb and Harshita Gaur, and actress-dancer Lauren Gottlieb shared their personal perspectives on why protecting nature matters and how conservation can become a part of everyday life.

Filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani highlighted the inseparable bond between nature and storytelling, saying, “As someone who's spent years working in cinema, I've come to realise that nature isn't just scenery we place a story in front of, it actually shapes the stories we end up telling and the memories we carry as an audience. Some of our most iconic landscapes have become inseparable from the films and folklore built around them. Take away the location, and often the story loses a part of its soul. Our festivals, our traditions, our folklore, all of it is deeply rooted in the natural world in ways we don't always stop to acknowledge. So when we talk about protecting nature, we're not just talking about the environment; we're talking about preserving cultural identity for the generations who come after us. That's what makes conservation feel personal to me, not abstract.”

Sadia Khateeb reflected on the importance of learning from traditional practices while embracing modern solutions. She shared, “Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for conservation isn't inventing something new, it's preserving the wisdom we've already inherited. Traditional practices, the ones our grandparents followed without even calling them 'sustainable,' were built on a relationship with nature that was far more balanced than what we practise today. They didn't have the language of conservation, but they lived it in how they cooked, how they farmed, how they stored water and food for the seasons ahead. That restraint came from actually understanding scarcity, not from lack of access, but from respect for it. I don't believe progress and tradition need to compete with each other. We can move forward with new technology and still carry that older wisdom with us, using it as a foundation rather than something we've outgrown. For me, conservation starts with looking backward before we look forward.”

Harshita Gaur stressed that conservation begins in our immediate surroundings and that even small actions can make a meaningful difference. She said, “We tend to think conservation is something that happens far away, in national parks or wildlife sanctuaries, somewhere removed from our everyday lives. But honestly, it begins right where we live. It's the birds that visit our balconies, the butterflies in a nearby park, the trees and plants that somehow still manage to survive in the middle of our cities. We just don't notice them enough to protect them. Even our cities can support biodiversity if we make a little room for it, instead of paving over every inch of green space. Something as simple as planting a native species instead of an ornamental one, or protecting a small patch of green in your locality, has a ripple effect that goes further than we realise. I think that's the part people forget, that conservation is often small and local before it's ever big and global.”

Lauren Gottlieb, meanwhile, spoke about responsible travel and the importance of respecting the places we visit. She said, “I love how much travel teaches you, if you let it go beyond just seeing a place. For me, the best way to experience somewhere new is by respecting it, not consuming it. I try to actually learn about the culture, the food, the people, and the environment of wherever I go, instead of just passing through it. It deepens the whole experience in a way that a checklist never could. I always try to leave a destination the way I found it, or better, whether that's how I engage with the local community, how I treat the land, or the small choices I make along the way. Local ecosystems aren't just photo backdrops for me; they're living, breathing systems I feel lucky to be a temporary guest in. There's something so grounding about that mindset; it makes every trip feel more meaningful.”

20 years of Omkara EXCLUSIVE: “Saif Ali Khan jumped at the opportunity to utter cuss words. He said, ‘I am never going to get a chance to do this again’,” shares Abhishek Chaubey; also reveals ONLY Vishal Bhardwaj was sure about Saif’s casting
https://ift.tt/lpBfYDr

Vishal Bhardwaj is known for his Shakespeare trilogy in the form of Maqbool (2004), Omkara (2006) and Haider (2014), adapted from Macbeth, Othello and Hamlet. Out of these, Omkara completes 20 years today. The film starred Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Vivek Oberoi who reprised the characters of Othello, Iago, Desdemona and Michael Cassio respectively from the original Shakespearean play. It is still remembered for its bold storytelling and trying something hugely different at that time with mainstream Hindi film stars.

Omkara is also special for filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey as he was an associate director and co-writer on the project. In an exclusive and candid interview with Bollywood Hungama, he looked back at the enjoyable process of making Omkara.

Personal milestone

Chaubey calls Omkara a “milestone” for his career. “This was just the second film which I had written,” he said. “This was also the biggest film I had done in my life. It just fell into my lap because we were not expecting Vishal to make a thriller at that point of time. He was making something else. This happened all of a sudden. I had a fantastic time being a part of this film. It was Kumar ji’s (Kumar Mangat Pathak) first production and he didn’t leave any stone unturned. So, we were never in want of anything. There was very little stress on set. We enjoyed making the film.”

Script written in a jiffy

Chaubey had said in an interview that they had written the script of Omkara in 18 days. He elaborated on how it happened. “In 18 days we did the adaptation formally,” he said. “But when we were working on the post-production of Maqbool, Vishal and I were just generally talking that if he were to do another Shakespeare, what would it be. And he wanted to do Othello. There were no plans of making anything but just for fun we used to talk about adapting Othello. So, there were certain ideas about the film we had through our discussion about Othello early on; a year or two before we made the film,” he said.

Hence, when the opportunity came to adapt Othello, they were better prepared because they had a good vision about the film. “There was some amount of clarity with which we started,” said Chaubey. “It was not completely blind start in that sense. We had to write the film in a short period of time because Kumar Mangat had come as producer and got Ajay Devgn on board. Ajay was very keen to do a Shakespeare with Vishal but the condition was that his dates were open in January and we were already in September. So, we had to write the film in double quick time, otherwise we would lose out on his dates. Although there was pressure, it was a good pressure.”

Meeting real gangsters and politicians

Sharing the interesting research process, Chaubey revealed, “Robin (Bhatt) da joined us. Then Vishal, me and Robin da went on a general trip of western UP, particularly Meerut. We spent about a week there and met various kinds of people – gangsters, people behind bars, etc. Just a political and crime landscape of Meerut. Plus, Vishal is from Meerut, so he knew a lot of people we could meet and talk to. That energized us and also gave us a feel of the film, like how the characters are, how they talk, behave, etc. Directly from Meerut we went to Mussoorie to write the film.”

Due to their research and familiarity with Othello, which Chaubey had even studied in college, they were well-prepared when they sat down to write. “We would have discussions about the adaptation during the day – the story, characters and all of that. During lunch time, I would polish the notes Vishal ji and Robin da had discussed. Then post-lunch during tea time we would revise it and Vishal would that evening only try and do the dialogues of those scenes. It was almost like we were working double time. We wrote it very rapidly. It was a very long time ago. I was very young, so I had a lot of energy. I remember enjoying the process tremendously,” recalled Chaubey.

Only Vishal Bhardwaj was convinced about Saif Ali Khan’s casting as Langda Tyagi

Recalling the casting of Saif, Chaubey said, “I was of the view that for the role of Langda Tyagi we would be going for a different, more serious kind of an actor or an arthouse actor because we were coming from Maqbool and all of that. But Vishal said that he is going for Saif. And I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ Saif hadn’t done anything like this before, right? He played romantic characters in urban films. The only film where he had negative shades was Ek Hasina Thi. He was very good in it but he was playing a very urbane character. This was a very different and rugged sort of a character.”

Chaubey added, “I wasn’t sure if it would work but Vishal was supremely confident that he would make him do it. I have to give credit to him because not just me but everybody around him was not very sure about his choice. But Vishal being a director could see something which we, obviously, couldn’t. And when Saif got to know that he is getting to play Iago, he quickly jumped at it. I think his mother Sharmila ji had something to do with it. She, sort of, encouraged him to play this part because, knowing Shakespeare, she told him that Iago is the most memorable character of this play. But his dates were not clear. I think he was doing Race. But then Race got pushed and he came on board.”

Chaubey recalled that Kareena came on board fairly quickly because Desdemona was a great character for her. She also wanted to be in a Vishal Bhardwaj film specially with Ajay Devgn leading it. He said that the rest of the casting also happened very quickly.

Saif didn’t hesitate to use cuss words

Omkara was one of the earliest mainstream films to have a lot of cuss words, especially uttered by Langda Tyagi’s character. When asked whether Saif had any hesitation in uttering cuss words, Chaubey said, “Saif jumped at the opportunity (laughs). He said, ‘I am never going to get a chance to do something like this again’. There were some apprehensions how it will be acceptable to the Indian audience or how the censor board will pass it. But our intention behind it was very clear. Shakespeare has great poetry. So, there has to be something in the dialogue that gives it a rhythm and feel that sets it apart from what you normally see in a Hindi film. The way Vishal ji used the dialogue and even the abusive language worked – and I mean this seriously – in a very poetic way. It was not like how cuss words are used now without a thought carelessly.”

“20 years ago, the CBFC was more enlightened”

The reaction of how the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to the cuss words was an obvious question to Chaubey. “CBFC of that era was very different from CBFC of present,” he said. “My first film (Ishqiya) came in 2010. It had a bold theme and colourful language. But at that time, people would give you Adult certificate and as long as anything was not demeaning to a gender or a community, they would let it be. In Omkara, there were some dialogue cuts but very minimal, which the committee felt were abusive towards a gender or anything of that sort. But otherwise, they let it pass. I think we had a very enlightened Censor Board 20 years ago. I think we have gone 20 years behind today.”

The craze behind “Langda Tyagi Baahubali”

Post the film’s release, the dialogue uttered by Deepak Dobriyal’s character, “Langda Tyagi Baahubali, Baahubali Langda Tyagi” became a rage and it continues to be popular. “When I saw it on set while shooting, I knew this is going to be a hit,” said Chaubey. “We had written it and we wanted it to be iconic. But when Deepak and Saif played that scene and then Deepak started jumping and saying this dialogue, we knew instantly that this is going to catch.”

Chaubey was speaking from Jharkhand where he was for a recce to scout locations for his upcoming web series.

Shagufta Ali calls Govinda a “bigger perfectionist” than Aamir Khan, says his habit of arriving late on set was “the only issue”
https://ift.tt/h3prTRw

Veteran actor Shagufta Ali recently looked back on her experience of working with Govinda, describing him as an actor who constantly chased perfection on set. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, she shared that despite his well-known habit of arriving late for shoots, Govinda never compromised when it came to delivering the best performance.

Recalling the filming days, Shagufta said the atmosphere on set was always lively: "We used to have great fun whether Govinda or Karisma were on the set or not. We were on a paid picnic. The outdoor shoot in Ooty was great. We had stayed at Mithun Da's hotel. When he got to know about it, he came to meet us and treated us to seafood he personally cooked." Shagufta Ali says Govinda chased perfection in every scene While praising Govinda's talent, the actor admitted that punctuality was one issue that often affected the shoot schedule. She said, "Govinda used to come late on set here too. If the shift were 9 am, he would come by 1 or 2 pm, and never before that. This was the only issue with Govinda; otherwise he was a very nice person. I have done 3-4 films with him. He is a very nice person, fun-loving."

She went on to compare his work ethic with Aamir Khan's, who is widely regarded as Bollywood's "Mr Perfectionist." She recalled, "He does 25 rehearsals. Govinda is a bigger perfectionist than Aamir Khan. David sir would okay the take, but he would still insist and also apologise to others. His eye for perfection was so strong that he didn't care if the person opposite him was tired." Kader Khan often complained about Govinda arriving late Shagufta also revealed that veteran actor and writer Kader Khan would often express his frustration over Govinda's late arrivals. She asserted, "Kader Khan would get very angry with Govinda for arriving late; others would get irritated too. We had to wait for him every day. Even though he would not show his anger openly, he would grumble about it."

Govinda, who has delivered several memorable films over the years, is now preparing for his return to the big screen after a seven-year gap. The actor will next be seen in his self-produced film Roopa, co-starring debutante Rani Swarnkar. He has also announced another project titled Duniyadari.

Following her directorial debut with the short film Siblings, she is all set to release her deeply intimate and ambitiously cinematic second short, Duet. Backed by acclaimed filmmaker and her husband Bejoy Nambiar, Duet stars Sidhant Gupta as a pianist going through a turbulent phase in his life. Duet also stands out for being the first film to release on Spotify. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Bejoy also had a release, Tu Yaa Main, starring Adarsh Gourav, Shanaya Kapoor and a terrifying crocodile. It was one of the most appreciated films of the year and yet, it didn’t get the box office success that it probably deserved. Moreover, it was a film meant for the big screen and to witness audiences freaking out and screaming in fear in some scenes added to the fun. Despite so many factors, the film missed the tag of a theatrical hit.

Sheetal Menon, who was credited under ‘Special Thanks’ in Tu Yaa Main, opened up about the creature thriller’s box office performance in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama. She said, “You always hope that a film works. You try your best and hope that it has everything required to succeed in theatres.”

She added, “But what exactly does a film need to run successfully in cinemas? You put in your best effort, and the response to Tu Yaa Main was overwhelming. Yet, the film had mixed results at the box office. Of course, it is disappointing at some level. But you cannot sit with that disappointment. You have to get up, move on and try again.”

Sheetal admitted, “However, it wasn’t easy. You also feel helpless at times. How do you convince people to come to theatres and watch a film? We are living in a difficult period when audiences are no longer going to cinemas regularly. It is becoming increasingly difficult.”

Sheetal Menon added, “At the same time, there is still hope. I don’t think an experience like this would make anyone say, ‘I’m never going to do this again.’”

Comes days after Suriya's fan club appealed against birthday celebrations Jyotika's post comes shortly after Suriya's fan club announced that the actor had requested fans not to celebrate his birthday as a mark of respect for students protesting across the country. According to the fan club's statement, Suriya urged his supporters to keep the spotlight on the students' concerns instead of organising birthday celebrations.

The ongoing protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) along with several student organisations, continue to demand accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak, systemic reforms in the education sector, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

EXCLUSIVE: “Salman Khan called Raghav Juyal and told him, ‘I saw Bhai Tera Star Hai trailer TWICE and the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan joke was FABULOUS’” – Vivek B Agarwal
https://ift.tt/PEh9RB8

The makers of the Raghav Juyal-starrer Bhai Tera Star Hai recently released the song ‘Aankhon Se Tune 2.0’, a recreated version of the popular track from Ghulam (1998), starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji. Meanwhile, in the trailer, Raghav’s character can be seen claiming that he would play Bhaijaan’s bhai in an upcoming film. The meta reference alludes to Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023), which starred Salman Khan and featured Raghav as one of his brothers. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, producer-director Vivek B Agarwal spoke about this aspect and much more.

When asked if Bhai Tera Star Hai will have a grand premiere, Vivek B Agarwal replied, “We are working on it and are also planning to invite our industry friends. Making this film was like one big party for us! It was a comedy, and off-screen, everyone was indulging in crazy things. We had rehearsed the film so much ki sabko ek dusre ke dialogues yaad ho gaye the. So, we want to carry this momentum forward and hold a big cast-and-crew screening, which we can call a premiere. It’ll be held a day before the release, and we intend to celebrate the fun we had while making the film.”

Since Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are also connected with the film, would they be invited to the premiere of Bhai Tera Star Hai? Vivek Agarwal smiled and answered, “I would love it if they could come and if they have the time. I do know that Salman bhai called up Raghav and congratulated him on the trailer. He was very happy with the trailer. Raghav met him as well. He told him, ‘I saw your trailer twice and the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan joke in the end was fabulous’. So, I am happy that people are enjoying the humour and taking it in their stride. It’s also good to be encouraged by people who have seen it all and done it all.”

Bhai Tera Star Hai releases on July 30. Speaking about his future plans, Vivek B Agarwal said, “There are quite a few films in development. These are ideas that I have been writing and developing for years. It’s just that I had to take the step of producing films myself, and hence, those projects took a backseat. But yes, there are several things in the pipeline, and I hope to get them going in the early part of next year. Also, my wife (Avantika Hari Agrawal) is a National Award-winning writer-director, and she’s working on her next project. We are trying to put the cast together and hopefully get the film on the floors as soon as possible.”

12 years of Kick: RARE pictures, UNTOLD anecdotes from Sajid Nadiadwala's blockbuster - Salman Khan's childhood pictures were studied and animators COPIED his comic nuances, Randeep Hooda needed 27 takes for his first shot and ZERO retakes later…
https://ift.tt/VnbyIG3

Recently, Salman Khan created a storm with his tweet about the happenings in the country. Interestingly, 14 years ago, another tweet by the superstar changed the course of several lives. It was through this tweet that he announced Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut with Kick (2014). This is when he announced that Sajid Nadiadwala will turn director with Kick. The action entertainer was a blockbuster at the box office and one of the biggest box office successes for a debutant director. The film is remembered not just for providing wholesome entertainment but also because the makers released a special coffee table book ‘Kick: A Karizmatic Journey’. Launched a few months after the film’s release, it consists of rare BTS images and fascinating trivia shared by Sajid Nadiadwala and the various HODs. As Kick completed 12 years on July 25, Bollywood Hungama revisited this rare coffee table book to unearth fascinating behind-the-scenes trivia and previously unseen pictures from the blockbuster.

1. Zero VFX, 100% Salman’s swag

Cinematographer Ayananka Bose opened up about the legendary scene involving Salman Khan and the railway train, “The iconic sequence was never a part of the original plan. Mr Khan was supposed to ride across the tracks on the cycle but just before he was to perform the shot, he came with this idea that he would dismount the cycle, push it ahead and just walk across the tracks nonchalantly, without even looking at the train which was a fraction an inch away from him. Sajid sir asked the team to film both the options – first what Salman had suggested and second was the original idea of cycling across the tracks. It sounded impossible to place the camera on the path of an incoming train without the help of VFX for such a sequence. This is when we decided to dig a hole and place it right in the middle of the tracks onto the path of the train. In those failing light conditions, the crew worked frantically, including Sajid sir, who was most worried about the safety of Salman sir. With the failing light conditions, it was a one-shot ‘now or never’ moment.”

He added, “What followed was history. Once the walk across the track was filmed, the original idea was never filmed!”

2. From 27 takes to no retakes:

Sajid Nadiadwala revealed a fascinating anecdote about Randeep Hooda, who had a crucial part in the film, “On the first day of the shoot, we tried doing very different stuff for the role and I was not very satisfied on the monitor. We had about 27 takes until Randeep gave the shot exactly as I was looking for. From that day, we never had any issues and for all subsequent shots, he did not cross the second take.”

3. Apprehensions that were soon put to rest

As for Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character, Sajid Nadiadwala revealed, “He was the last possible choice on anyone’s mind. Many of my HODs did not agree on his casting, but I was very sure.”

4. The evolution of the mask

Suresh Selvarajan, special prop designer, admitted, “We made nearly 300 different masks before settling for this one, and then we did an 8-month-long research on the material. This was the first time the mask was made using 3D print technology in India…we were clear that it would be a first-time-ever or never-before mask.”

5. How Salman turned singer

Sajid Nadiadwala explained how he convinced Salman Khan to sing ‘Hangover’, “We have been hearing him for the last 20 years in a room. So, this was the best chance for the world to hear him too.”

6. London’s bus in Poland

The double-decker bus chase scene is quite memorable. The veteran filmmaker revealed, “We started from London, then Glasgow, followed by Warsaw. Thank God we got permission to shoot in Warsaw. Otherwise, we would have had to shoot in Bangkok or Hong Kong. We put both buses on trucks to transport them from the UK to Poland as they were not allowed to drive on the highway on their own.”

7. Adorable cameos

Kick marked the debut of Sajid Nadiadwala as a director and one of his sons in front of the camera. He said, “My elder brother, Subhan, has made his lucky charm appearances in most of my productions, from his debut appearance in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and thereafter in Heyy Babyy (2007), Housefull (2010) and Housefull 2 (2012). It was only befitting that with Kick, in which his father was making his debut as a director, my younger son, Sufiyan, also made his debut screen appearance with Subhan…their presence added to the sweet taste of Kick’s success, like the ice creams they were enjoying through the filming.”

8. Sajid’s Eureka moment

In one scene, Salman Khan admonishes bystanders for failing to act in the face of injustice. Sajid explained, “There was this particular real-life incident in which a few brave boys had unfortunately lost their lives amidst indifferent onlookers. The incident had disturbed me deeply. A Eureka moment occurred when I was taking a shower in the morning and got an idea to interpret this incident in my own way. I narrated the scene to my wife as I stepped out of the shower and her reaction gave me the positivity that I had hit the right chord.”

9. The girl who left the nation teary-eyed

Diya Chalwad, who played Jhumki, was the soul of the film. Sajid Nadiadwala confessed, “Every time this part of the scene was scheduled to be filmed, I used to look for some excuse to push it back as I was not emotionally prepared to take on this part. Finally, we filmed it towards the end of the schedule, when I matured as a director and was in the right emotional space for it.”

He continued, “A special mention to Diya who could emote and cry effortlessly and made us cry on the set”

10. Salman’s 2011 blockbuster to the rescue

Ayananka Bose also revealed, “I asked (Sajid sir) how he chose me for such a big project, when he could have hired anyone from India or abroad. He answered with such simplicity that while watching the film Bodyguard (2011; also starring Salman Khan), which was shot by multiple DOPs, he came across the song ‘Teri Meri’ that was shot by me. He liked it and decided on that basis. He said his most memorable visual from the sets of the film was “the ever-smiling face of Mr Sajid, be it rain or shine, a quality rare and to be learnt”.

11. How the writer’s block was overcome

Rajat Aroraa, one of the much-loved writers of the film, remarked, “The breakup scene was one of the hardest to crack. Time was running out…I had only the beginning of the scene sorted. Things were a little tense. Sajid sir walked up to me and told me, ‘Don’t worry, Rajat. It’ll work out. Like in life, har cheez mein problem second half mein hi aati hai.  And that’s it. That’s how I got the line, ‘Main tumhare saath boodha hona chahta hoon, tumhari wajah se nahin’!”

12. Sajid’s uncompromised vision

Production designer Rajnish Hedao of Acropolis stated, “Sajid Nadiadwala’s philosophy was that if you were going to show a close-up, make it closer than any close-up has ever been. And if you are going to take a long shot, make it a larger long shot than anyone else has ever done.”

13. Action directors floored by Sajid

The action directors of Kick have spoken highly of the director-producer. ANL Arasu said, “I found the greatest producer in the film industry, Mr Sajid Nadiadwala…he is a great captain. I can proudly say that my grandfather is Sajid Nadiadwala. May God bless him.” Stefan Richter, international action director, stated, “I was given the biggest chance in my career. I will never forget the time with you guys.”

14. The hard work behind the animation sequence

Kick’s animated sequence was lovely and set the mood. Viral Thakkar, VFX Supervisor, Pixion, opened up on what lengths they had to go, “We used various references of Salman sir’s childhood and teen pictures from the internet and carefully designed the characters. The idea was not to make it look too caricature-type. We had a task in front of us with the image he carries globally. The audience loves him. We had to make him look very appealing and lovable.”

He continued, “We went through various visual references from Salman sir’s previous films on the way he performs his comic scenes. He has his own style and the task we had in hand, as far as animation was concerned, was to capture his nuances. At one point, we had to make our animators perform like him in our office just to make sure they got the animation right.”

15. The untold story behind the car

The vehicle driven by Salman Khan at the beginning of the film was a cross between a car and a motorcycle. Deepak More, DC Motors, admitted, “Despite an intensive attempt to source a pristine VW Beetle, we couldn’t find one decent one in the whole country. Hence, we were forced to follow a process that is only done when prototyping elaborate programmes for auto manufacturers. We had to build a 3D data of the VW Beetle…”

Yash defends Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Rama casting in Ramayana; says, "He is a fabulous actor"
https://ift.tt/AoKJWTr

Actor Yash has come out in strong support of co-star Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Rama in Ramayana, asserting that the actor has approached the role with sincerity and dedication.

The two actors, along with director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, appeared together at a panel discussion held at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday to speak about the upcoming mythological epic. Yash defends Ranbir’s casting Speaking at the Ramayana panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Yash said, according to The Telegraph, “Nobody in this world can come and say, ‘I have the virtue to play Lord Rama’. The fact that he (Ranbir) said the same says it all. He is a fabulous actor. It’s not easy to play Lord Rama and the way he has really worked, huge respect to him.”

When the film’s first teaser was released earlier this year, there were some questions about whether the 43-year-old actor suited the character’s younger years despite widespread praise for his regal look. Responding to the criticism, Yash said Ranbir had worked hard on his fitness for the part and that audiences would see “a beautiful Rama with great intent and great sacrifice” once Ramayana releases. Ranbir opens up on stepping into the role Ranbir, for his part, admitted that he was gripped by apprehension when he was first offered the role, wondering whether he was capable of playing Lord Rama, but said that doubt soon gave way to gratitude, describing the part as a blessing and a moral responsibility.

He added that Lord Rama has served as the conscience keeper for millions across generations for over 4,000 years, embodying courage, compassion, forgiveness and righteousness, and said the entire cast and crew shared the intention of telling the story as authentically as possible. Trailer launch postponed The panel had been expected to conclude with the global unveiling of the film’s trailer, but producer Namit Malhotra announced that the launch was being postponed as Sony Pictures has come on board as the international distributor for Ramayana.

Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is a two-part epic, with the first instalment set to release in theatres this Diwali. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, alongside Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi and Kunal Kapoor.

Kamal Haasan backs Jantar Mantar protest, questions system in powerful note: “A nation has failed when its children are met with barricades and batons”
https://ift.tt/sWwJ9mP

Veteran actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan has voiced his support for the students protesting at Jantar Mantar, becoming one of the few prominent South Indian film personalities to publicly speak out on the issue. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the actor shared a strongly worded statement, questioning the country's education system and urging those in power to address the concerns raised by the protesting youth.

Expressing solidarity with the students, Haasan criticized what he described as systemic failures that have left young people feeling unheard. He also appealed to education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his ongoing fast while emphasizing that the responsibility now lies with the nation to respond to the students' demands.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, Kamal Haasan wrote, “We should have listened when one child cried. Instead, we waited until far too many of our children died. A system where coaching replaces learning, anxiety replaces curiosity, and criminality replaces merit is rotten. A nation has failed when its children are met with barricades and batons instead of answers. @Wangchuk66, the nation will need your conscience for the journey ahead. Please end your fast. To the children of India: You are the best of us. You have done your duty. It is now time for the country to do its duty by you. May your dreams forever be bigger than our failures. @cockroachisback #CJPProtest.”

We should have listened when one child cried. Instead, we waited until far too many of our children died.

A system where coaching replaces learning, anxiety replaces curiosity, and criminality replaces merit is rotten.

A nation has failed when its children are met with…

— Kamal Haasan (@ikamalhaasan) July 23, 2026

The actor's statement comes amid growing conversations surrounding the ongoing demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, where students have been demanding accountability and reforms. Haasan's post highlights concerns over the pressures of the current education system and calls for meaningful action instead of confrontation. While several celebrities from the Hindi film industry have expressed support for the protesting students over the past few days, Kamal Haasan is among the few leading South Indian stars to publicly take a stand on the issue.

As the protests continue to draw nationwide attention, Haasan's message adds to the growing list of public figures urging authorities to engage with students' concerns and work towards meaningful solutions rather than allowing the crisis to deepen.

THE INDIA STORY has a powerful subject, but weak writing and dull courtroom drama blunt its impact. Movie Review: THE INDIA STORY's powerful subject is let down by weak writing.
https://ift.tt/j6bEWN9

Star Cast: Shreyas Talpade, Kajal Aggarwal Kitchlu

Director: Chettan D K

The India Story Movie Review Synopsis:

THE INDIA STORY is the story of a man taking on the entire system. Yogesh Patil’s (Shreyas Talpade) daughter, Pari (Trisha Sharda), passes away from cancer at the age of six or seven. Yogesh approaches a police station in his city, Pune, and alleges that she was murdered. The cops find his complaint frivolous and throw him out. He then approaches several lawyers, but they, too, decline to fight his case. Finally, Advocate Archana (Kajal Aggarwal Kitchlu) decides to take it up as her first case. At the Bombay High Court, Archana argues before a two-judge bench comprising Justice M Dave (C P Thakur) and Justice J Prabhakar (Atul Tiwari) that Pari died after consuming fruits, vegetables, milk and other food products contaminated with pesticides and harmful chemicals. She holds the farmers, pesticide companies and the government at large responsible for her death and requests the court to take action against them. The case becomes a major talking point across the country. Farmers, in particular, are aghast, as they consider themselves ‘annadaatas’ but are now being branded as murderers. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

The India Story Movie Story Review: Sagar Shinde's story is hard-hitting and astonishing. However, Sagar Shinde's screenplay fails to do justice to such a promising plot. Very few sequences manage to stand out. Sagar Shinde's dialogues are sharp. However, this courtroom drama doesn’t have a single dialogue that will compel viewers to break into applause. Moreover, due to the censor cuts, some of the one-liners fail to create the desired impact.

Chettan D K’s direction is not up to the mark. To give credit where it is due, he brings to the screen a topic that urgently deserves to be discussed. The timing is also apt, given the recent crackdown in Maharashtra on unhygienic practices at prominent restaurants and eateries. A few scenes stand out. In one such sequence, IG Vijay Rathod (Murli Sharma) is aghast upon learning how certain unscrupulous elements in society produce milk. He recalls savouring a milk-based sweet and encouraging his son to drink milk for better health. Another important scene features Archana’s conversation with a farmer, Rajaram (Rahul Belapurkar), who explains why he separately grows the food consumed by his family. Some portions are deeply moving, especially those depicting the ordeal Pari goes through.

However, as aforementioned, a film which is a courtroom drama and which is tackling such a burning topic should have had exhilarating or clapworthy moments. THE INDIA STORY is devoid of any such moment. The opposition lawyer, Vardhan Agnihotri (Manish Wadhwa), does make strong arguments. But shockingly, he doesn’t get any witness from his side. He merely defends the points raised by Archana. Ideally, when such big corporations are involved, they’ll go all out to save their face in the court. However, their head honchos are just shown discussing in boardrooms that the case will destroy their company and then silently accepting their fate! The other issue with the film is that it’s too disturbing, especially the hospital scenes in the second half. Agreed that it was important to show the hardships. Yet, it gets too heavy and may not be liked by the audience. Lastly, the twist at the intermission point is great, but one wonders why Archana hides the fact from the court and the world at large?

The India Story Movie Review Performances: Shreyas Talpade has a limited contribution in the first half. But he dominates key scenes of the post-interval portions and delivers a heartfelt performance. He makes sure not to go overboard and hence; his act looks very authentic. A few of his scenes will leave viewers teary-eyed. Kajal Aggarwal Kitchlu, meanwhile, is the soul of the first half and looks every inch a lawyer with a motive. Performance-wise, she’s first rate. Child actor Trisha Sharda is cute and plays a difficult role with panache. Murli Sharma and Manish Wadhwa are dependable. C P Thakur and Atul Tiwari are decent. Sachin Parekh (Dr Vikrant) and Kamlesh Sawant (Inspector Jangam) leave a mark in small roles. Alok Kapoor (Yogesh's father) and Anu More (Yogesh's mother) get no scope, while Ganesh Yadav (Opposition leader) is wasted.

The India Story movie music and other technical aspects: Mangesh Dhakade's music is poor. Not a single song stands out. 'Gubbara Chaand Ka' consists of animated scenes; however, it looks out of place. Mangesh Dhakade's background score is just okay.

Nishant Bhagwat's cinematography is functional. Mitesh Zore's production design is authentic. Kirti Jangam's costumes are realistic. The use of AI is tacky. Akash Mhatre's editing is fair but could have been better in scenes involving censor cuts.

The India Story Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, THE INDIA STORY rests on an important and hard-hitting subject, but weak writing and ineffective courtroom drama dilute its impact. It releases with negligible buzz and, therefore, stands virtually no chance of succeeding at the box office.

Anurag Kashyap distances himself from Bobby Deol starrer Bandar, says “Whatever came out is not my final cut”
https://ift.tt/w28m6Xb

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about his decision to distance himself from Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, revealing that the version released was not the one he had envisioned. During a conversation with comedian Kunal Kamra, the filmmaker candidly spoke about creative compromises, the impact of corporatisation on filmmaking, and why he deliberately chose not to respond to the criticism the film received.

Explaining his silence after the film's release, Kashyap admitted that he did not feel comfortable defending a project that no longer reflected his intended vision. Addressing the criticism surrounding the film, he said, “When I said don't watch, it's because I can't own up… If you noticed, I didn't give any interviews on the film. Because whatever came out is not my final cut. So, the criticisms that came the movie's way are quite valid. I wanted to put out something I could stand up for. As a result, I couldn't stand up against the criticisms against the movie."

The filmmaker also reflected on how the industry's functioning has changed over the years, suggesting that the increasing corporatisation of cinema has altered the creative process. Comparing the current ecosystem with the past, Kashyap remarked, "Unlike before, things have become corporatised today. It’s not like all producers are making movies by mortgaging their houses or because they believe in the work. Some are making just to ensure that their movie is a success."

Speaking further about the themes explored in Bandar, Kashyap maintained that audiences who understood his intent would recognise what he was trying to convey, despite the changes made to the film. He said, "Those who could see my intention, they didn't need to watch it, because they already know what's being shown. The problem is with those who don't know what it's about and they need to watch it to understand the perspective. Only those who aren't self-aware get carried away; or those who aren't aware of what goes on. Those who are aware won't have expresses solidarity with... protests, asks what... a problem; they will dismiss it right away.”

Kashyap further clarified that while the film largely retained his visual storytelling, editorial changes significantly altered its perspective. Elaborating on the impact of the final edit, he said, “Cinematically, everything else is pretty much mine… but they changed it by taking something out. Thus, the perspective has been changed. The tilt has changed a little bit. Whatever was there, was made by me. I shot it. But what they have edited out has really affected the outcome.”

His remarks have once again reignited conversations around creative freedom, director's cuts, and the influence of studios and producers on the final version of a film. While Bandar was discussed for its subject matter and performances, Kashyap's latest statements shed light on the challenges filmmakers often face in preserving their original creative vision.

Bobby Deol opens up on working with Vijay in Jana Nayagan; says, “He’s a very simple man”
https://ift.tt/eUZq7YF

Ahead of the release of Jana Nayagan, Bobby Deol had opened up about sharing screen space with Tamil superstar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, describing him as remarkably grounded despite the scale of his fame. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Deol also reflected on the nature of stardom in the South and how it differs from Bollywood.

Shot mostly indoors due to Vijay’s stardom Deol revealed that much of Jana Nayagan was filmed on studio lots rather than public locations, owing to the frenzy that surrounds Vijay. “It’s a fact. No work will happen if you take him on the street. He’s that big,” he said.

Despite limited interaction with his co-star, Deol found him strikingly unassuming. He called Vijay “a very simple man. Very quiet, very much to himself,” adding that language barriers on set were smoothed over with the director’s help. On stardom in the South versus Bollywood Having previously headlined the Telugu film Daaku Maharaaj, Deol is familiar with Southern fandom. Asked whether stardom there felt larger than life, he said, “There they worship the actors. It’s amazing how united they stand for the film industry.”

He recalled his days playing in the Celebrity Cricket League alongside Mohanlal, when stadiums would fill up as fans arrived in buses to support their stars. “That’s the difference regionally, and how united they stand for their actors and the film industry,” he said.

Bobby Deol recalls Soldier remake

Deol also noted that Vijay largely stays away from promotions and interviews. “He doesn’t do too many promotions or interviews, but that’s how he likes it,” he said, recalling a conversation in which Vijay mentioned having remade one of Deol’s films. “One day he told me he has done a remake of one of my films. I think it was Soldier.” Vijay’s 2008 film Villu, co-starring Nayanthara, was indeed a remake of Deol’s 1998 film Soldier.

With Jana Nayagan now in theatres, Deol’s comments offer a glimpse into his experience of working alongside Vijay, whom he described as a quiet and grounded presence despite his immense popularity.
